86% Of Fans Want Newcastle To Keep Danny Guthrie

It seems that Danny Guthrie is popular among Newcastle fans – at least those who read this blog.

Danny Guthrie – fans want him to stay on Tyneside

We put out a poll a couple of days ago asking readers if Newcastle should try to keep Danny at Newcastle,  and 86% think the club should do just that.

Here are the results with close to 1400 votes in, and you can still vote if you haven’t  voted yet.

And yes Danny, you can take this to Derek LLambias if you think it will help your case – best of luck! 😀

86% of fans on here. Doesnt exactly speak for the masses as there are a lot of numptys on here (billy bob ted planb etc) who cast votes to sway the results.

I want him to stay but only as a squad player, the question is, is he happy with this role, in my opinion NO and i feel he would fit in well and play each week with a team like Villa/Fulham etc….

I hope he stays but i think he is after regular football which i dont believe we can promise him!

I think he would get loads of games next season if we qualify for Europa and that’s why he’s stalling on signing a new contract, just my opinion.

I wouldnt be too worried if he left, hes too much of a hollywood player for me. The amount of times he kicks long balls straight out of play or straight through to the goalkeeper, he thinks hes a better player than he is, gives the ball away alot more than ben arfa but gets no stick because he runs around a bit. He always looks tired after about 60 mins and we have a better player in cabaye plus two good young players coming through in his position. Hes good with the ball at his feet when he keeps it simple but he tries the hollywood pass far too often, would be easily replaced.

Guthrie is terrible every game we play him we struggle he can’t pass his stamina is shocking 60 minutes and he’s knackered these are the type of players we need to offload in the summer.

There needs to be a big clearout in the summer starting with Pardew then rapidly followed by Simpson, guthrie, williamson, best, ranger, lovenkrands, perch, ameobi and Rob elliot all overated championship garbage.

I don’t think anyone would be gutted if he left but he’s the best back up we’ve got to Cabaye or Tiote at the moment and you’d be taking a chance getting shot of him and trying to get a cheaper replacement.

Toon_tom…Who you talking to mate? I see no Bob on here 🙂

JFA…He is a really good squad player. Which is what we’re going to need. I hope he’s stalling to see whether we get Europe, but feel he’ll probably go.

People calling for us to almost half our squad this summer are crazy. We need at least 2-3 players as it is and then to replace all of the outgoings. Can anyone seriously see us buying say 10 players? Pretty unlikely

I think the poll is pretty pointless, to be honest.

Of course Newcastle want to keep Guthrie. It’s not up to the club is it?

TDS. Of course it’s pointless. It’s a poll for fans who have no say what so ever in the matter. I imagine it was meant to get the fans thoughts on it.

If the club wanted him, they could offer a better deal to keep him. Unless he doesn’t want to stay at any cost, in that case, you’re absolutely right

Jail for ashley… I think weve got two players in abeid and vuckic who would do just as well as guthrie with a decent run of games, ive been saying since the first time i seen vuckic play that hes the best player coming through the reserves(him and ranger looka different class to everyone else for the reserves), vuckic plays passes that you wouldnt expect someone his age to play, hes going to be a very good player when he gets some games under his belt. Rangers hold up play is as good as sholas and hes got a very good turn of pace.

The problem is, he 100% wouldn’t be a first team player. He’d definitely be a rotation option. And if we offer Guthrie, for instance, £30k a week to do that role, then Perch, Ryan Taylor, Williamson, Best, Shola etc will all be entitled to the same pay.

I imagine that even if Tiote is sold – which I imagine he will be – we’ll replace him with a couple of players probably better than Guthrie.

It’s a shame we don’t have the finances of stature anymore for players to be happy to just “play a part”.

The thing that really makes Vuckic stand out at reserve level is his physical size. It’d be interesting to see how he’d do at the top level. By all accounts he was top draw for Cardiff on loan.

He’s pretty slow, which is his main downfall. But the way he can spot a pass is very very promising I agree.

TDS…Very true. There are 2 problems, first is what player is happy to sit on the bench or play a rotation role. The second is how much wage the club are willing to pay these types of players.

    On tiote…don’t say that…just don’t do it 🙂

Tds… Hes been the same height since we bought him, he looked like a giant playing for the under 18s. I watched a few of his games for cardiff and he scored in one and all the play was going through him and whittingham, he likes to get in the box alot and has a very good shot on him.

Whittingham looks a fantastic player. Really really classy. Not sure whether he’d cut it in the Premier League, but the 2 or 3 times I’ve seen him it’s been a joy.

On Vuckic, I just hope Pardew gives him chances. To be fair he does seem to be trying, but Vuckic keeps picking up injuries at bad times 🙁

    I guess we’ll just have to rely on kids, Perch & Shola to fill the bench (;

But if we get into Europe, hopefully Guthrie will see that he’ll get at least 20 games a season – probably more.

TDS…I suppose all will come clear in the summer. I’m hoping we’re doing our business early again, especially with the Euros going on. I think I read somewhere that this may be the last window before the fair play rules would kick-in, so expect some big transfer movement. Could be an interesting summer.

Ibiza… I think the rules have already kicked in, we bought the most expensive player in jan and none of the big teams really spent any money. We are in a position were we can basically out bid a bigger team because we are willing to pay for a player in one lump sum rather than in installments over 5 years. Going off what the pappers are saying weve already signed two players and are having talks with the dutch defender soon, amalfintano(that his name?) and the sunday sun said we had already agreed a cash deal for someone else. We are desperate for a right back/ left back and a cb but with steven taylor back next year that wont be as desperate as it is atm. Douglas at twente would be my choice as cb and i would like us to try and sign clyne/zaha, redmond at birmingham is a very good young player aswel.

I would defo keep him. Great attitude, great vision & passing.
He just need his run of games. Most of the goals in the championship were created by assists of Guthrie. I’m sure if he hits his form & chance, he’d be a great allround midfielder

Pards or Llambias, not sure which one, said that the deal to sign Papis Cisse was in place in the summer, so my bet would be that any players that are due to come through the door will be in place now, or at the very least, be in negotiations with clubs right now.

Cabaye was practically a Newcastle player even before the end of last season so that shows that we have a very proactive scouting team, which we all know but it is great to acknowledge them 😀

I get the feeling that Pards, Llambias, Charnley and Ashley (our very own quad…) are piecing together the shape of our future Europa League squad as we speak, and that the only thing the lads on the pitch need to do is make sure we get it! (Could be over-eager positivity on my part but I genuinely feel that this is the way we are operating now)

Well the way I see it is that the players who are going out the door will have already made that decision (or had the decision made for them), the likes of Simmo and Guthrie know where their future lies even if it has not been publicised and the club have then made contingency plans in case they leave or not as the case may be.

With regards future signings it will purely depend on how the club want to move forward on a purely footballing basis, i.e do you want robust solid defenders who pump the ball out or refined ball playing defenders to play the ball from the back, which is purely a philosophical debate for the “Quad” to decide.

I also am debating the future of Gutierrez’s role in the side for future seasons. When we improve the defence there will be less of a need to have defending wingers in the side, and we will need more attack minded wingers in the mould of Marv and HBA, so these are issues that need to be ironed out. Interesting times ahead.
