Are Newcastle Retaining Interest In Blackburn Winger?

21 year-old David “Junior” Hoilett scored a nice first goal for Blackburn last night when they beat Sunderland 2-0 at Ewood Park,  to record their first two back to back wins of the season in the Premier League.

David Hoilett challenging Danny Simpson this year

After beating Wolves 2-0 last time out at Molineaux they played a good game last night and managed to beat an in-form Sunderland side to get 10 points our of their last five games – not too bad for a side fighting relegation..

That puts Newcastle 10 points above Sunderland in the league table, so surely we can now finish above the Black cats in the league this year.

The win takes Blackburn up to 28 points for the season from their 29 games,  and they are now 6 points above the drop zone, and there were some very relieved Blackburn supporters after the game last night.

As only one of four clubs who have won the Premier League, Blackburn hopefully will now  be able to stay up, but we could see Joey Barton playing in Championship next season with QPR.

David Hoilett is a Canadian-born winger/striker and he has now scored 6 goals for Blackburn in 28 appearances this season, and he scored an excellent goal against Newcastle at St. James’ Park  on September 24th, when we ran out 3-1 winners.

And every time we see this lad play he looks sharp, and he will become a free agent in the summer, when his contract runs out.

While it’s always possible he could stay at Blackburn,  the likelihood is that he will move on in the summer.

Newcastle have been linked with Junior all season, and we may go after this lad, although it seems that Bayern  Munich are in the driver’s seat, according to reports in Germany, and they can offer him Champions League football too.

In January of this year, Hoilett was named one of the 13 players to watch in 2012 by FIFA.

It’s a no-brainer for Newcastle with him being a free agent, because if he doesn’t make it at Newcastle in a couple of years time, Newcastle could always sell him at a profit.

But if  the Magpies want this player,  they will need to move fast – but maybe they already have?

What do you think about this lad?

Even if we did manage to come up with a package he was happy with,I don’t know how the rest of the squad would take to him after his, diving ,whining and all round sh*tty attitude when playing against us this season.

Great prospect, absolutely ideal for our squad, but the first post here is spot on. No chance, unfortunately.

I’d really like to see him at the club. I think we will only get so far playing Raylor as a winger and I dont think the risk we took on Obertan has paid off. Marvaeux also is an unknown quantity in the Prem because of his misfortunes with injuries. So if we could go into next season with Jonas, Ben10 and Hoilett we’d have 3 quality players who could operate on either flank.

That said signing Hoilett will be far from easy especially as he is on a free. no doubt the usual suspects will also become interested (Spurs, Liverpool etc). But you just never know what transfer business goes on behind the scenes at the club so who knows eh?

Teams like Tottenham and Liverfool will offer him silly wages for him to warm their benches. He’ll take their offer and then be asking to join us in a year or two.

Better with us than against us? Jonas will have a new recruit for his diving classes 🙂

Slightly off topic, but I still can’t fathom why Blackburn sacked Sam Allardyce. Admittedly, he’s not exactly Pep Guardiola and his teams play old-fashioned route-one football, but he would have guaranteed them a mid-table finish, whereas now they’re struggling just to avoid relegation. To a lesser extent, the same could be said of Mick McCarthy: things have got worse since he was sacked.

    Alright Lads,

Hows everyone doing? Just read an interesting article on Corgnet, the CM we are linked with.

He sounds like a real talent, a late developer but highly rated in France it seems. Scores a few goals by the sounds of it, could be a quality signing, especially if we make Europe.

    On Hoillet,

I like his talent he is clearly a gifted player, but I dont think we need his attitude etc, he seems a bit of a prima donna to me and plus I echo the wages argument.

He will get offered bigger money I think andf take it……so What, on to the next one.

I trust our scouting and recruitment 200% and whoever we get will fit the bill.

    Hoillet or not Hoillet

Allardyce’s sides play physical and unattractive football.
He also has a huge backroom staff.

If you are going to pump millions into a club perhaps surly Sam is an unattractive person to front your investment?

How good is his defending? In modern football, players need to be able to work both ways. Look at Jonas, he’s one of the best defending wingers in the game.

Hoillet is a great prospect, but he can’t play in a free role in NUFC like he’s doing in Blackburn, we need composure and grit and players simply need to run both ways

That confuses me aswell mate. I think Venkys released a statement when he was sacked saying something like they wanted somebody with more experience, then they appointed Steve Kean. Baffling.

Can’t see a reason why he wouldn’t want to come to Newcastle!

A lot of players move to the so called big clubs and waste away on the bench and thier talents go to waste week in and week out.

The lad has got talent but has hardly proven himself to be incredible yet, he is just a shining light at a poor club.

He would be great at nufc as it would allow him a step up but not a massive leap and with the hunger and ambition we are showing that has attracted other players, why would he not want to come here.

Guaranteed starter, chance to shine at a big club and propel us into top 4 contention, he can’t turn that down for warming the bench.?!

Perfect window for me (what I deem realistic values):

    Out:
    Lovenkrands – release – 15k pw?
    Smith – release – 60 pw
    Forster – 3m – 10k pw?
    Simpson – 2m – 15k pw?
    Williamson – 2m – 15k pw?
    Best – 3m – 15k pw?
Xisco – release (if we can) – 40k pw?
    Ranger – release – 15k pw?
Gosling – a season on loan to a Prem club.

    10m raised – 190k pw lighter

    In

    Douglas – free – 30k pw?
    Pieters – 5m – 30k pw?
    Corgnet – 5m – 30k pw?
    Hoilett – free – 40/50k pw?
    Rhodes – 3/4m – 20k pw?
    prospect keeper aged 20-21 – 1/2m – 10k pw

    Spend 14-16m – wages shelled out – 170k pw-ish

GK – Krul, new prospect, Elliot
RB – Santon, Raylor, Tavernier, Perch
CB – Saylor, Colo, Douglas, Pieters, Perch
LB – Pieters, Ferguson, Santon, Jonas, Raylor Perch
CM – Tiote, Cabaye, Corgnet, Guthrie, Perch, Raylor, Abeid
LW – Jonas, Marveaux, Hoilett, Ferguson, Sammy
RW – HBA, Obertan, Raylor, Jonas, Sammy
    AMC – HBA, Hoilett, Vuckic
ST – Ba, Cisse, Shola, Rhodes

28 different players there. A step up in depth of quality and plenty of versatility.

Off for a lie down now….

    @Pardew’s fist pump

With Lovenkrands going and if Best is sold, we need two strikers.

With both Dembas off to the ACN again next season.
We’d be left with Shola + Rhodes?
If Shola picks up one of his regular injuries … we’re screwed.

I know what you’re saying, but then we could just go with 1 up and Hoilett/HBA or a few others either side of the 1, still a massive threat. Then there’s Vuckic who should start stepping on it next year, he could play just off the main ST – we have to test these kids thoroughly sooner or later, giving them some responsibiliy.

In an ideal world he would sign but in reality someone offering champions league will come along and offer more wages than us so it will depend on Hoilettt himself, if he wants regular football with us or squad football somewhere “bigger”.

Still if we had Hoilett and HBA playing off either of the dembas and then Tiote/Cabaye and 1 other in centre midfield, then the 4-3-3 could begin to work…….

I simply cannot fathom why we didn’t submit a bid for this fella in January. We could have gotten him for about £6million as Blackburn are clearly getting nothing for him this summer, so they would have reluctantly accepted. There is absolutely no chance he’ll come to us the end of the season with all the big clubs in for him offering CL football. He’s a cracking player, and would be an immense signing as we’re desperate for another source of goals (especially from midfield where we’re severely lacking) but I really can’t see it happening. Hope I’m wrong…..

Signing Marvin Martin, Hoilett, Aly Cissokho and Vertonghen/Alderewield are essential. If Sochaux go down I think we’ll either go for Martin or Boudebouz.

    Other recommended signings are:

    Mbiwa – £5m
    Diame- Free
    Rodellega – Free
    Clyne – Free
    Jay Rodriguez – Free

I’m expecting a summer of lots of transfer activity

It’s not happening. I think we’d have to pay over the odds in wages and fees for him. Yes he’s quite good, but Hatem Ben Arfa has done nearly as much in half a dozen matches as Hoilett has all season. I think he’s more hype then anything else. I’d rather Newcastle took Zamora when QPR go down or Cisse than Hoilett. Anton Ferdinand would be a good squad signing aswell, he’s not too bad these days.

5 players needed though if the obvious players leave. Corgnet would be a great signing, and then even Cabaye will be fighting for his place in the 1st team which every player should be. If every player looks the obvious for each game, then the squad is too small.

Since January, i fully expect Hoilett’s future to have already been agreed upon, and i doubt he will arrive at St James’, plus the attitude thing does worry me. I do like the look of Corgnet, but at what price?
As for Zamora,Cisse.. they don’t fit the buying strategy we have, which i applaud. Did anyone see Essien last night? Awesome player once, but now?
