Erik Pieters Arrival At Newcastle This Summer Very Real

If you believe the Editor of  the Dutch football magazine Elf Voetbal, it is very likely that Erik Pieters will arrive on Tyneside in the summer.

Erik Pieters – very likely he will come to Newcastle this summer

Newcastle pursued the 23-year old last summer, and although Newcastle seemed to get very close to a deal, they couldn’t quite manage to agree terms with his club PSV Eindhoven.

Jan Hermen De Bruijn is a  journalist from the Netherlands and he has been interviewed today by a Newcastle blog site, and says it is very likely that Pieters will join Newcastle this summer.

This is what he has said today:

“The chance of the Erik Pieters move to Newcastle going though looks very likely.”  “He won’t stay with PSV at the end of the season. He will leave go to a bigger league.”

“Newcastle has been mentioned several times and he has had contact over there.”  “The chance of him going to England and then Newcastle is very very real.”

“Newcastle United looks like a very good club for Pieters.“  “It’s a move that would suit him, PSV Eindhoven and Newcastle United.”

Pieters has played over 100 times for PSV since joining them from Utrecht in the summer of 2008, for a fee close to £2M, and it is thought the fee PSV want is now closer to £6M.

Erik has been a Dutch International since 2010 and so far has 14 appearances for his country, and he is also good friends with Newcastle’s top goalkeeper Tim Krul.

The 6’1″ Pieters did not have a good game for the Dutch against England at Wembley recently in their 3-2 win, and he was taken off at the half, and he seemed to have trouble handling both the skill and speed of Daniel Sturridge and Adam Johnson.

But maybe it was just a bad day at the office for him.

Erik usually plays left-back but he is also more than useful in central defense.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Yeah get him in a decent looking shirt, not that rancid red and white thing he has on.

This seems to be one of those rumours that will not go away – lets hope we can “get it over the line” in the summer. He didn’t look great against England but to be fair on their day Johnson & Sturridge would trouble most left backs. Also a lot of players don’t produce their club form at international level.

Im sure his international match was just a blip because Ive been watching this guy for about a year now and he does look very solid in defense.

I would like to see Shola partnered with Cisse but I think Pards will only play the Dembas together because Ba can helps Cisse on the pitch with the language and getting instructions to him.

Pardew should also be learning french really.

This will happen been saying it for aaages

it makes perfect sense and he is exactly the kind of defender we need, Good feet, pacey, physically strong, good int he air and versatile..

Him at LB and Santon at RB is solid for me, he can just sit and almost make up a back 3 whil Santon has room to bomb on.

He should be our Number 1 Target this summer in my opinion.

From last thread OMG i cant belive I put Wilo on, should have been Saylor mate, 100% concentration error (almost Wilo esq) 🙂

Going Forward (when we have the ball) it would look like this if it were up to me

    When We loose it

HBA has a somewhat free role here and tucks in to cover in defense.

Colo – it was the proverbial Willo dribble out of defence and lose it!!!

Lol!!! Just hope Saylor can come back and have 2 or 3 seasons injury free. He should be approaching his prime, and he was having a cracking season. I think there is every chance we might have another 3 or 4 points if he had stayed fit. Would have been right in the mix for CL spots.

Mind, if we can win 4 from 9 and draw a couple, no way will the Bindippers catch us. They would have to win 7 from 9 to do it. No chance.

Yeah that irs mate exactly lol!

I agree on Saylor, had he been in the team all season, I think we would have alot closer to 4th for Sure.

You can see his passion on his face when he sits on the bench at the matches.

He love the club and I cant wait to have him back, was outstanding this season.

I think a lot of people are forgetting thatagainst England Pieters was playing his second game after making his return from breaking his foot.

He was out for 4 months and played (I think) 30 minutes for PSV before being called up to The Netherlands.

He is real player though and would be a smashing purchase and would leave little room for Simmo. However he isn’t know for his attacking rampages up the left so I don’t know how the team could balance out with Pieters at LB and Santon at RB.

anyway I am probably reading too much into it and cannot wait (hopefully) to see another top international join us here at St James Park.

Loved Enriques face last night…..Gutted you went to a ”bigger” club son.

To be fair I like the lad and he gave us good service in his time, but its still funny to see him and Carrol failing….Oh and Joey LOLZ

Look at the line up i posted above mate, when we have the ball i could see it balancing ourt as almost a bck three.

    Saylor Colo Pieters

with Santon bombing on then coming back to cover.

    What do you think pal?

Colo Sus whilst I agree with the tactics you use I wouldn’t put Cabaye on the right when we don’t have the ball. I’d stick Benny on the right, Ba on the left and pack the middle with Cabaye, Tiote and Corgnet (should we get him too), but I like the forward thinking Colo-sus.

I think theres a chance we would have another 7 points had saylor not been injured.

His energy was great and he really did plug the gaps in our defense. He had excellent mobility and a read on the game.

I can really see this Pieters thing coming true. We have apparently made contact in the past, he appears to want the move, no other clubs reported to be sniffing around him.and I dont think he’ll be too pricey.

ANd for his versatility he is worth £6m I reckon.

This is the type of player I can see building a great partnership with Jonas in terms of taking the pressure off Jonas while also knowing when to get up the field.

Plus it makes sense for him to move here because he will be playing with Krul (good for international perspective)

Alan_Pard_Who @11 – that is a good point, I didn’t know he had been out injured. Although lets hope he doesn’t add to out injury prone players list.
I’m hoping when Carroll & Enrique come to SJP they don’t get booed because Enrique stuck with us in the championship and Carroll was squeezed out earning his home town club £35m.

In an ideal world id like us to sign:
    Marvin Martin
and another CB Vertonghen would be awesome but i think he will go to a CL team.

At home or against weaker opposition:

Against a stronger opponent when we need to pack midfield:

Squad Players: (new cb), RTaylor, Jonas, Vuckic, Ameobi x2, Perch, Abheid, Simmo, Willo, Guthrie, Best, Marveaux, Obertan, Fergie, Gosling. etc

Some players are ob gona leave but i think the four mentioned would make our team so much stronger. Maybe a more defensive minder midfielder as well…..

Plenty of games to be played if we do reach Europe, get them in early in the transfer window so they can get used to England and ready to kick on for a better season if possible!

Lol @Jail! I think Pieters would be a great signing, especially if we can bring the price down to £4m-£5m.
Good points made by LGFUAD21. I still think that our main priority is a quality CB. If Colo got injured now… we’d be buggered.

Saylor was always a very good def for us. He can also bring the ball forward which i like very much. A modern defender with a very typical defensive style and mentality.

This was what lacking in Wilo.. i would rather him to clear the ball in a simple way then trying to do anything with the ball.

It sound s very much reading above that we have already signed him!

When Saylor comes back from injury our back line could look something like this:

    Saylor Pieters Collo Santon

With Krul behind them between the sticks then we would be solid at the back!

Saylor & Collo injured in the game against Chelsea,
we were more than holding our own in that game looked like me might sneak the points.then we struggled for 2 0r 3 games where we may have got points.I agree we may have had 4 or more points if we hadn,t lost Williamson, Collo, & Saylor about the same time

@ davis_toons its only now that he has gotten himself injured that i realise what a rock he was at the start of the season, some of the defending was a bit last ditch at times, but half a season of results doesnt lie. Not to mention the fact that he was always a nuisance for the opposing defenders on corners etc.

Martoon,Enrique will get a hostile reception because he refused to come out & say he was leaving the Toon for Livershit. Phil Thompson was telling this on TV 3 months before Enrique left & as for AC he kept telling every one he never wanted to go No one held a gun to his head.He went for the money plain & simple, I would have respected the man more if he had come out & told the truth.Just like another judas Jenas went to Spurs to win England caps & being at Newcastle was like living in a gold fish bowl .Anyone know which gold fish bowl he,s living in now,its certainly not Spurs. Dodgy deal Harry never thought he good enough to play for England

    This article is plagiarised from

Nufcfans did some real journalism and telephoned a Dutch journalist about Pieters.

Their work should not be ripped off by another blog.

If it is stolen then at least have the decency to mention them and put a link to the original piece.
