Newcastle could unload up to nine first teamers in the summer months.
Xisco – in action for Deportivo La Coruna this season
We have an inkling there could be lots of changes made in the Newcastle squad this summer.
It looks like Danny Guthrie, Alan Smith, Nile Ranger, Tamas Kadar, Xisco, Peter Lovenkrands and Fraser Forster could all leave the club in the summer.
That’s seven players who are part of the first team squad, and Newcastle will need to replace them with better players in the summer, if they do in fact leave.
And there’s a chance that Danny Simpson could be moved out if he doesn’t sign a new deal by the summer, and Dan Gosling is also a player who could be sold in the summer, since he is finding it so hard to get regular games on Tyneside.
It’s certain only that Alan Smith, Peter Lovenkrands and Tamas Kadar will not have their contracts renewed and Newcastle will once gain try to unload Xisco, who is still on £50K/week, and the lad still has one year left on his five year deal.
Xisco is currently on loan for the season at his previous club Deportivo, who are now in the Spanish second division, but the famous Spanish club is on 63 points from their 29 games and are top of the division and 5 points ahead of Celta in second position.
It looks like Xisco has made only 7 appearances this season for Deportivo with one start and one goal.
And if Newcastle do unload a number of players we should expect a number of new players coming through the door over the summer months – and here are just 12 of the players Newcastle have already been linked with:
Virgil van Dijk – FC Groningen’s Dutch defender – 19
Romain Amalfitano – Stade Reims French attacking midfielder -22
Douglas – Brazilian 6’4″ center-back at FC Twente – 24
James Tomkins – West Ham defender or midfielder, English – 23
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa- Montpelier captain, French, defender – 22
Jan Vertonghen – Ajax and Belgium 6’3″ center-back – 23
Benjamin Corgnet – French attacking midfielder – Dijon – 24
Cheikh M’Bengue – Toulouse and Senegal left back – 22
Erik Pieters PSV – Dutch left back at PSV Eindhoven – 23
Jacob Butterfield – Barnsley central midfielder – English – 21
Adam Maher – AZ Dutch-Morrocan central midfielder – 18
John Guidetti – Man City striker – Swedish – on loan, Feyenoord – 19
There are more of course, but the key is that Newcastle replace those who leave with better, and hopefully younger players.
And then our squad should be improved significantly for next season, when we could be back in Europe for the first time since 2007.
Looks good to us.

Comment #10Ah come on blissna! Cheer up mate, I dunno what it’s like where you are but where I am at, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, Chelsea and Liverpool lost last night and we have a very real chance of being 5th come Sunday 😀
Regarding speculation and team news where do you lie on how we should approach this West Brom game, I dunno about you mate but I am simply buzzing! 😀

Comment #11As I’ve said previously – if we are going to lose seven to nine players with first team experience we have to have those covered at least and preferably with even more incomings as our squad is thin as it stands now.
Are we capable of bringing that many good performers into our club in one close season AS WELL AS a clutch of top young talent?
Hope Carr is going to ask for a pay rise as he’s certainly going to have to work for it!

Comment #12No one is going to take Xisco, we’ll be lucky if we can get another subsidised loan for him.
Simpson is a good defender but there must be better out there.
So I’d get shot of him.
Ed’s list seem decent.
I think West Ham will want too much for Tompkins.
Younger, cheaper, better … the NUFC mantra.

Comment #15Douglas is no longer Brazilian having taken the Dutch Nationality earlier this year!
Guidetti is still on loan at Feyenoord! And would just cost too much! so strike him off your list Ed !
As for Xisco! Maybe if Deportivo get promoted they will take him off our hands!

Comment #16Is this Douglas guy any good? Ive seen him play once which i know isnt enough to judge but he looked like a bit of a ball watcher / commits himself to easily.
Anyone seen him play enough to say he is any good, or no good?

Comment #17Martoon – @ 13 Thanks for pointing that out.
Happy birthday to the Big Fella.
I laugh when I hear commentators going on about players being a handful ‘in the air’. There hasn’t been one player born who could get up as high and with such power and accuracy as Wyn and I’ve probably seen most of them.
A legend, and as I met him many years ago – a nice man too.

Comment #18As i keep telling the thick FIFA12 oafs on here NUFC need a root and branch clearout starting with Simpson, guthrie, williamson, lovenkrands, ranger, ameobi, obertan, elliot and best they are not up to premier league standards they maybe okay on FIFA but they won’t take us to the next level in the real world!

Comment #19Can only say that we are an improving club which i hope for when we were doing slum..
Great that we are seeing that now..whoever comes into the club will only be a better player for sure in one way or another..(young / better quality) but of course sometimes player do need much time to adapt and we have to understand that. (ie. torres was also a wonderful player but he just a little prob with his goals)

Comment #20@16:
Douglas played in the same team as Tiote when F.C.Twente won the Dutch champioship a few years back!
He is defensive midfielder, built like a brick shithouse, and used to play alongside Mr T in defence for Twente! Soon after winning the League in Holland! The wally with the Brolly left to manage S.V. Wolfsberg in Germany & just after that we signed Tiote! Mclaren is now back in Holland with Twente having failed in Germany and at Nottingham Forest!
Douglas is on the verge of a call-up for the Dutch national team which was his main reason in changing his nationality.
He is a good player, but how much would Twente want for him? And could we pay his wages? Two questions we would have to ask ourselves before we go in for him!
If you offer him what Xisco is on he would probably take it! Him and Titoe would make a very solid midfield!

Guthrie, Simmo, Willo not up to prem standards? Or top 6 prem standards?
Either way, we are in 6th with contributions from Willo, Simmo and Guthrie?
And B they would walk into lesser prem team squads.
Talking shite, unless you know a sovereign state willing to buy us and plow £800m into the team we have to keep solid squad players like these.
Get shot of Loven, Ranger, Xisco, Smith and I never understood why we bought Elliott personally.
Keep Simmo, Guthrie, Obertan (give him time), Ameobi.
If you had it your way we’d somehow have to scout about at least 12 bargain buys. I highly doubt that is possible.
Plus Guthrie has been a key player this season when he has played.

Comment #22LGFUAD21 You plainly don’t know what your talking about most of the players i mentioned were bought when we were in the championship they did their job now its time to move them on they are not good enough. I suggest you sit and watch them closely then maybe you can see them for what they are over achieving championship quality.

Comment #26I’d be gutted to see simmo Willo and Guthrie leave. Replacing them is not cheap and we have to fork out agent fees and all over again. Just keep them as they add depth. Guthrie is the best of the lot and we should put in more effort in retaining him as this season he has outperformed cabaye.

Comment #30ED HARRISON listen to this…
Im a Toon Supporter from Watford, so its difficult not to follow my local team also… We need to sign SEAN MICHEAL MURRAY, if you have any contacts then get the word out whilst he is still on the cheap… i tried telling you about ASHLEY YOUNG when he showed signs (could have had him for 250,000) but a year later he went to Villa for 10million!
I was a few years above MURRAY at school, ok, compared to others he has developed late but he is showing signs of another YOUNG… watch him please, 6 goals in last 4 games with number of assists.

Comment #32Bob – if those player you mention are not good enough for the top 6 then how come we’re in the top 6 with those players playing a very big part of the season…. surely if they weren’t any good, we’d be in the bottom 6???
Yeah I watch the games & I see them making mistakes but I also see players like Colo, Raylor, Cabaye, Tiote etc etc also making mistakes but as a team, we’re obviously doing enough to be a top 6 team with who we have so change the record yeah, we need squad players as well as star players, or what would we do when the stars get injured or get fed up of sitting on the bench & decide to leave…
I personally think only Smith, Lover, Kadar & maybe 1 or 2 others will leave this summer, with us bringing in maybe 6 or 7 additions, maybe more if we do get into Europe… 🙂

Can’t see them wanting to keep Xisco, even if they are promoted. Would you want to keep a player who’s only played 7 games (1 start) and scored one goal? Seems unlikely
