It was great to see Shane Ferguson back in the side, in those last few minutes of yesterday’s 3-1 win at West Brom.
Shane Ferguson – 14th appearance for Newcastle yesterday
Shane came on to replace the injured Papiss Cisse, who was carried off on a stretcher, but the good news there is that Alan Pardew said after the game it was only cramp and Papiss will be fine.
Ferguson always looks a good player when he gets a game for Newcastle, and he showed up well on the left wing yesterday, and he is now one of the few purely left footed players at Newcastle, along with the great Ben Arfa of course.
We have to hope Shane will get more playing time in the last eight games of the season, as he can play anywhere on the left hand side of the field.
It was yet another positive to take out of the game yesterday for Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, who said he was pleased to have the 20 year-old fit again:
“Shane will deliver crosses into the box and take us up the pitch.”
“We haven’t really got a natural left-footer in the team. I’m very pleased to have him back.”
Alan must have fogotten about a certain Hatem Ben Arfa, who has a pretty good left foot. 😀
And Shane could even come in and do the job at left back – if called upon – which is exactly what he did last year when deputizing fopr Jose Enrique, and we hardly missed Jose.
For the record Shane now has 14 appearances for Newcastle over the last two seasons, and he has two caps for Northern Ireland.
Alan Pardew recently noted that Ferguson had an excellent game in the 3-0 defeat by Norway, in Michael O’Neill’s first game as the new Northern Ireland manager.
It looks like Shane could be a regular for Northern Ireland form now on, if he keeps producing those kind of performance in International football.
Comments welcome.

one thing i disagree on is Simpson, he was solid yesterday pal and he has been for the last few games. Credit where its due. People need to get off his back in my opinion, he puts a shift in for us everytime he plays. Not the best right back but a few months ago he was mentioned as a possible for and England Call up in the media…..
Santon is the fuure I agree, but I simply hate player bashing NOT saying yo are there btw, that was your opinion. I simply disagree.
Also the battering he got on twitter by some was embarrassing.

Comment #50Optimism valley is falseness and shall perish under the weight of it’s own burden. This blog is the place for football knowledge not an arena for praising false prophets. He will fight for you, he will destroy for you, he will resurrect to cleans the blog of this new world order and then when the job is done he will decent into silence once more.
It has been prophesised and so it shall be. Colo-sus you are the 2nd deciple, spread the word.

Comment #54i think every single player has been bashed on this blog this season, for example ive saw:
krul – poor kicking and needs a hair cut
simpson – just terrible
guthrie -lacks stamina and is slow
ben arfa – too greedy
willo – poor no confidence
obertan – no confidence very poor
shola -well….
pardew – poor tactics blah blah blah
all these negative comments are just part of football.
the only player i have ever bashed is simpson and thats because i think he’s very poor

Comment #58Hi Colo…all good mate. Season is about to start here in Ibiza, so busy getting houses ready for clients…good fun. How’s things with you?
Willo for vice captain? Could make or break him.
Reality drive is probably a better place to be. The problem was the borough of negativity was spreading.

Quick note…People subscribing to the optimistic view are not delusional folk, thinking all is wonderful and nothing can go wrong. It’s just not looking at every bit of news and expecting the worst. Things have improved and seem to be improving all the time. I honestly believe now is a great time to support the toon and that gives me reason to feel optimistic

Mate…I usually think your pretty accurate but come on….Simo played really well yesterday and was Solid against Arsenal and Nowrich.
Not getting at you at all,,
As i said earlier I know Santon is the future as we all do but Danny Simpson has/is a great ambassador and servant of our club. Helped us win promotion and was exemplary, gives back off the field to the community and as Hovis said earlier…He leaves it on the field every week!
I dont get it at all….

Comment #62Think Willo played really well yesterday and thought Krul was more to blame than him for the Goal, would like to know who else would have marked Ollson on every set piec and it has to be said did a really gud job of it as well.
People must watch a different simpson to me, he was the one player yesterday who for me dragged the football down, it is indisputable that the lad gives 100% and tries his best but he is a championship player at best, if we had a team full of players with his quality we would be cack.
Dont like having a go especially after such a gud team performance, but he is not gud enough, but i think everybody knows that, so i should just give it a rest probably, still support the lad though and wish him all the best for the weekend. Wouldnt be in my team.

Not saying Wilo for vice full time, Just for Sunday make him Skipper for me.
He will feel ten feet tall walking onto that pitch ad thats what he needs at the moment.
People have short memories of the composed no nonsense CB of last season. You dont become a bad player over night, the lad just needs a boost!

Comment #64simpson did well against arsenal norwich and west brom and earlier in the season against man utd away were 4 good games, but the rest of the season he has been either distinctly average or poor. he infuriates me because he just hoofs the ball and plays himself into trouble. he also backs away constantly and twice last season it cost us goals, both at home against wolves and tottenham when jarvis and lennon scored.
however given his due he has made 2 goal line clearances which have saved us. decent squad player but shouldnt be first team

Comment #67On Simpson….not the best player, but certainly not the worst. Overall he seems to try and has looked semi decent this season. Think him and Krul are the only 2 to play every premier league game this season too.
I don’t think he’s the future RB of this club, but he certainly has a role to play and is the best option we have…for now

anyways wasnt he drunk last month and telling people he was signing for arsenal? and in the summer he drove halfway to birmingham as backup transfer incase villa didnt sign alan hutton? he isnt signing a contract and thinks he is better than what he is

Comment #75Beer, sex, fried chicken, music and football. You cabbage patched Muamba but fair play i owe you one God.
Basically, am i the only one who can’t stand all these “Pray for Muamba” tee shirts and banners? It really grinds my gears!!! I appreciate everybody wishes him all the best but i can’t help but feel a lot of it is just players stroking their own egos.
Maybe you should ask your God why he did this to Muamba in the first place? Rather than having to pray to make him better…

Excactly mate, he is clearly lacking confidence he has last year..
He would usually put that ball into Row z but he hesitated and had a mix up with Krul, Krul should have called it mind!
He woud be brimming with pride on Sunday as Captain imo and probably is the best option, bar Colo and Shola.
