Newcastle captain Coloccini is out for the next two games with a hamstring problem.
Mike Williamson – we can cope without Fabricio
With Steven Taylor also being out with an Achilles problem for the rest of the season, Newcastle do not any specialist center-backs to come in, and it will be James Perch who will do the duties next to big Mike Williamson in Sunday’s game against Liverpool.
And James has been in really good form this year for Newcastle, and the 26 year-old has shown when he has a specialist center-back alongside him, he can do a good job in the center of the Newcastle defense.
Mike Williamson will also need to step up to the plate on Sunday, and he was interviewed on the Newcastle web-site today:
“It’s a big loss.” “Colo been huge for us this season. He’s not only our captain, but also a fantastic player.” “But the second half at West Brom showed that we have enough in the squad to cope without him while he is out.”
“Perchy came into the middle and he has been one of our best players in recent weeks.” “He proved again that he can step in, be it at left-back, centre-half or wherever, and do a brilliant job.”
“Liverpool have the likes of Suarez, Carroll, Downing and many others who can hurt you. They have some fantastic players.” “It will be tough but hopefully if we can apply ourselves like we did last weekend at West Brom, then it can be a good game.”
“We are carrying some momentum at the moment and have got a huge chance against Liverpool.” “There is a great buzz about the place at the moment. We are a hard-working group of lads with a good mentality.”
“And obviously off the back of two good wins, we are looking forward to the big game on Sunday.”
Mike had a good game on Sunday but he was at fault for the West Brom goal, when in doubt kick it out is a good way of dealing with those situations.
Here’s Mike’s interview after the West Brom game with a certain Hatem Ben Arfa, who seems very happy with things and was the Man of the Match at The Hawthorns, and Mike also tries to explain the dodgy goal we conceded.
With being short of specialist center-backs this season, Newcastle must buy at least one center-back in the summer, with the possibility of that being 6’4″ Douglas of Dutch club FC Twente.
The 24 year-old Brazilian is a free agent in the summer, and Newcastle are specialists at picking up top players out of contract, but Newcastle will still face some severe competition from other clubs.
The Chelsea game at Stamford Bridge has now been rearranged for Wednesday May 2nd, and we will have 12 days after our home game against Bolton Wanderers on Easter Monday, 9th April, before we take on Stoke City at home on the 21st April.
Following the Chelsea game, we have Manchester City on the following Sunday at home, and those are the only two games we have against sides above us in the league table during the run-in to the season.
Both games are within five days of each other – two wins?
