Cheick Tiote And Ryan Taylor Could Both Start On Saturday

Both Cheick Tiote and Ryan Taylor have returned to training today at Benton.

Ryan Taylor – could return at left back?

They will have a couple of days training before the Liverpool game,  and they will both at least be on the bench on Sunday, although they could also both be in the starting line-up.

Left back has been a troublesome spot to fill lately, with Davide Santon  still learning the ropes at Newcastle, and it could be that Ryan Taylor will be preferred to Davide at left-back on Sunday.

Ryan played superbly earlier this season in that position, and manager Alan Pardew may want to use him there in the final run-in to the season, which could see Newcastle grab a Europa League place for next season.

And if Tiote starts,  it will give Danny Guthrie even more proof that he doesn’t have a career at Newcastle, well not if he wants to start games.

And that could be why we will see Danny leaving in the summer, when his four year contract runs out, as he looks for more playing time at some other club.

Tiote has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem, which captain Coloccini also picked up last Sunday,  and he will also probably miss a couple  of games.

Ryan  Taylor has been out for  the last three matches with a calf injury,  but that has now thankfully cleared up.

This is what Assistant Manager John Carver said about the two returning players today:

“They’re going to join in today which is good.” “It’s important we get as many of them back on the training pitch as possible during the run-in.”

If Tiote and Ryan Taylor both start,  then this could be the starting eleven, in a 4-4-2 formation:

Simpson Perch Williamson Taylor (R)
Ben Arfa Cabaye Tiote Gutierrez (c)
Cisse Demba Ba

Alan Pardew could also use those players in a  4-3-3 formation against Liverpool, with Ben Arfa, Cisse and Demba Ba all up front, as they were against West Brom in the last game.

What would your team be for Sunday?

Just remember the game when Tiote ruined Rooney and we won 3-0.

I expect the same against Gerrard. Stop Stevie G and you stop Liverfool, just ask Wigan.

    @Gazz 44
gutti in the last few games hasent been a winger at all…if anything he is turning into a solid defensive mid…im thinking it will be 4-3-3 with tiote and gutti defensive mids with cabs a bit more forward…

It won’t be a 4-3-3 it will be an evolving 4-5-1 that breaks into a forward 3 when attacking and retracts to 4-5-1 when defending.

I think with Gutis decline in pace as he gets older and the way he has bulked up massiveley this season his evoloution into a DM is well under way. The longer he stays away from the wing the better for me as I think his career as a winger is over.

No speed, no final ball and hardly an attacking threat, but heart, passion, dogged commitment and willing to throw himself into the fire for the cuase.

He could almost be inclined to play a Guthrie on the right ahead of Cabaye in a 4-3-3…. No chance though, we need as much cover as possible infront of Perch and Will…

For me it’s probably gotte be 4-3-3 again, we will need that force up front.

under 4-4-2 we have struggled to get the mids and forwards gelling.

If Pards wants to play it safer then 4-5-1 with either Vuckic or Ba playing in the hole. Probably Ba because we have seen that he can do well helping out in the middle.

Think Raylor at LB is not a bad shout. He was very good there at the beginning of the season.

Really hope Tiote is playing, we will need him to boss Gerrard.

    Pard WHo said it.

    Control Gerrard, control the game

Letting Guthrie go when we can use him in Europe seems insane to me

fir gid sake just put fergie left back, a natural left footer who has more pace more skill and more all around ability than raylor altogether and it will also give jonas a bit more of a breather instead of having to do both jobs, i just dont get the fASCINATION WITH RAYLOR AT ALL.

mmm Raylor back is good, gives Pards something else to think about, and somebody else to have a crack at the set-pieces perhaps.

Surely best eleven on the pitch there? (Injuries excluded).

Keep the 4-3-3 formation as long as it works:

    Raylor – Williamson – Perch – Gutierrez

    Guthrie – Tiote – Cabaye

Ben Arfa – Cissé – Ba

For all we know Carroll may start on the bench! We need to keep Gerrard quite (mouth as well) and play a stylish attacking game. Hope Tiote and Ryan Taylor are back as that will stiffen the side a good deal. Time for a Ba blast into the scouse net – due to score a couple?

“They could both start on SUNDAY” NOT SATURDAY Ed.

You getting into a nasty habit of getting the day wrong. Anyway I love the blog and keep up the good work.

Sunday is a crucial game to our Euopa ambitions because if we lose Liverfool will gain confidence and we will lose it and nerves will come in the final games and we could lose our spot and Liverfool could overtake us in the table. I hope we win or draw if Liverfool win I feel we will be in trouble

This season has been fantastic and to finish in the top 10 and possibly Europe in only our second season back from relegation and with a whole new team. Amazing work by Pardew, the players and co.

A season to remember if we indeed clinch hat ever so close Europa spot.

2-1 to The Toon on Sunday
