Both Cheick Tiote and Ryan Taylor have returned to training today at Benton.
Ryan Taylor – could return at left back?
They will have a couple of days training before the Liverpool game, and they will both at least be on the bench on Sunday, although they could also both be in the starting line-up.
Left back has been a troublesome spot to fill lately, with Davide Santon still learning the ropes at Newcastle, and it could be that Ryan Taylor will be preferred to Davide at left-back on Sunday.
Ryan played superbly earlier this season in that position, and manager Alan Pardew may want to use him there in the final run-in to the season, which could see Newcastle grab a Europa League place for next season.
And if Tiote starts, it will give Danny Guthrie even more proof that he doesn’t have a career at Newcastle, well not if he wants to start games.
And that could be why we will see Danny leaving in the summer, when his four year contract runs out, as he looks for more playing time at some other club.
Tiote has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem, which captain Coloccini also picked up last Sunday, and he will also probably miss a couple of games.
Ryan Taylor has been out for the last three matches with a calf injury, but that has now thankfully cleared up.
This is what Assistant Manager John Carver said about the two returning players today:
“They’re going to join in today which is good.” “It’s important we get as many of them back on the training pitch as possible during the run-in.”
If Tiote and Ryan Taylor both start, then this could be the starting eleven, in a 4-4-2 formation:
Simpson Perch Williamson Taylor (R)
Ben Arfa Cabaye Tiote Gutierrez (c)
Cisse Demba Ba
Alan Pardew could also use those players in a 4-3-3 formation against Liverpool, with Ben Arfa, Cisse and Demba Ba all up front, as they were against West Brom in the last game.
What would your team be for Sunday?
