Alan Pardew’s BBC Interview After Newcastle Win

5:06 pm, Sunday, April 1st, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 43 Comments

Alan Pardew – very proud

Here’s the BBC interview with Alan Pardew – where he says Newcastle  could have had four goals today.

Alan praised the performances of Williamson and Perch at the back, and Mike W went close with two headers today and hit the post in the first half, and it was Newcastle’s 12th clean sheet of the season.

James Perch continued to show he may be pushing for a regular first team place at Newcastle - he was simply great today!

Another fantastic interview from Pards who handles the media with consummate ease and class – praising the defence!

Gutted!! Reina out vs Everton in the FA Cup semis as Red card automatic get 3 matches ban..

  • 3 Dannyo // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:12 PM

U know what, it’s not beyond me to have Perch partner Willo when Collo returns if he puts in performances like this.
    Howay the lads.
Oh the win was sweet, but the way we absolutely humiliated and frustrated Liverpool is even sweeter than the win for me.
And we held the 0 against Suarez, Bellamy and Carroll.

Oh, Steven Gerrard, who is he again?

  • 4 Dannyo // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:13 PM

I’m sorry, to have Perch partner Collo…
However, a decent display from Willo today, hopefully his form is on the up again.

  • 5 Spuggy // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:13 PM

Our goal difference is better than Evertons and Liverpools now! :-)

  • 6 MagpiesFlyHigh // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:14 PM

    @ spuggy = rpevious thread

Pace isn’t the only quality we’d need in an AMF – vision, distribution, tackling, positioning etc., I reckon Gosling has a decent footballing brain and is worth at least another season

  • 7 MagpiesFlyHigh // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:16 PM

    Dannyo

If Willo ups his game then I’ll rethink about his role in the team as I’ve been pretty critical of him. Still not convinced he’s top 4 quality and that is where we are headed..

  • 8 Spuggy // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:16 PM

Fair point MFH – I’m not desperate to get rid of him. But he’s not impressed in the chances he’s had, which to be fair have been few and far between.

Still like to see us being another CM in, along with a CB, FB and CF.

    Good stuff:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1127299-liverpool-fc-5-reasons-why-andy-carroll-is-to-blame-for-defeat-to-newcastle

Pards is afraid to say that we are in it for the CL spot. But I like that. He doesn’t pressure the players. IF we will get there, fine, but that is not the goal. great interview.

Was it a hand by Simpson? It was like a top arm/shoulder thing, no?

  • 10 Spuggy // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:17 PM

But pace is one of the most important attributes in the PL – we have it in spades now and look at the difference. Barton and Nolan were too slow.

    goooooaaaaaal
    come on the swans

  • 12 joppadoni // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:19 PM

    come on swansea!

    Sigurdsson for Swansea! 1-1

  • 14 Dannyo // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:20 PM

    @MagpieFH
Most of us have mate, but i’ve been adamant it’s due to confidence issues. And a MOTM prize from BBC/Sky, whoever deals it, will certainly help his confidence, and in turn, hopefully we’ll see the Willo we saw after his comeback this season and last season.
We know he can do better.

  • 15 Dannyo // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:23 PM

    @Oleg G
If i was the ref and i saw that, i’d give the penalty. The ball hits his biceps and he activly tries to push it out by straightning his elbow.
But HBA didn’t get a pen either, so there’s no complaints from either end.

  • 16 toonking // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:27 PM

just as i log on to talk about the team i support the swans scored.
well what i was going to say was in some ways i am happier about finishing above liverpool than above the scummies. as for pardew if he continues this into next season and gets a champions league spot over the next 3-5 year he deserve to get added to the list of great newcastle managers after the state we were in when he first arrived that doesn’t mean to say hughton didn’t help start it off with promotion. also his interviews get better every week esspecially when it comes to questioning over champions league spot and holding onto players

  • 17 Oleg G // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:30 PM

    Dannyo // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:23 PM

    ok, got the Simmo point

HBA didn’t get a pen? You mean in the beginning? With Jose? that wasn’t a foul mate.

  • 18 AK Malaysia // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:30 PM

Hope Doni.. Brazilian & Liverpool reserve goalkeeper can do the business for Liverpool!

  • 19 Marty-Toon // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:30 PM

Willo won loads in the air today and made some great tackles too.
    Perchy was also class.
    Praise where it’s due
We looked a real team today although a few hairy moments where thy coulda scored

  • 20 AK Malaysia // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:31 PM

Only when they play Everton in FA CUp semi… hehehe

  • 21 toonarmydownsouth // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:33 PM

AK Malaysia you seem a bit lost mate this is a newcastle blog, dont know of any liverpool 1s but if u look around im sure you can find 1

  • 22 joppadoni // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:34 PM

marty mate defensively willo was crap. couple of good second half attacking headers and did good defensively. but first half he was poor

  • 23 Dannyo // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:35 PM

    @Oleg
Oh i think that’s up for discussion :P
Enrique was pulling quite allot in front of HBAs shirt, if u ask me he’s hindering HBAs run to the byline.
HBAs fall can be questioned, it may be that HBA opted to take the dive, but the ref couldn’t see Jose pulling the shirt.
I dunno, it’s quite blatant the holding, but it’s covered by the two players themselfes, the ref stands behind so he’s got no chance of seeing it.

  • 24 toonking // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:35 PM

TADS i think where AKmalaysia is pointing too is we still are hoping for liverpool to get into the final of the FA cup so we are guarentee of europe next year even in 6th place

  • 25 joppadoni // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:36 PM

willos clearances with head or foot never once got the ball more than 20 feet from when he hit it..

which is just a bit scary but he has talent. i hope he gets iun the groove asap

  • 26 AK Malaysia // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:37 PM

The reason I was gutted for Reina sending off is because he will missed Liverpool vs Everton game FA Cup match…. To have newcastle Utd qualify in Europa League.. we need Everton to lose to Liverpool & we stay in 6th… I do not care Liverpool as much as you do .. toonarmydownsouth!! Hope that’s clear things up!!! NEWCASTLE UTD FOR LIFE!!!

  • 27 TimKrulFan // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:38 PM

I have hope in obertan coz of how much better perch has got he was class today and cisse scores for fun ba needs a goal

  • 28 toonarmydownsouth // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:38 PM

Marty i think taking carroll off actually did willo a favour cos andy had the beating of willo for the whole first half was really bad, thats why im not sure how he got MOTM cos the 1st 45 mins was arguably his worst of the season

How ever credit where credits due he was a different player in the 2nd half

  • 29 AK Malaysia // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:39 PM

We all knew Liverpool has better chance when Reina plays…. esp when Everton is on a winning streak now!! I will only support Liverpool for this game…

  • 30 dirtymackems // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:40 PM

Stuart pearce was at the game today wonder who hes been looking at???

  • 31 toonarmydownsouth // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:42 PM

AK Malaysia i understand how the comps work fella and know we need the scum to go thru im simply wondering why you have put 5-6 comments about it on the last 3 articles?

  • 32 TimKrulFan // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:43 PM

@DirtyMackems probs looking at gerrard downing ect doubt he’s look at Williamson lol

  • 33 Jail for Ashley // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:47 PM

Excellent, excellent result today more satisfying than the Man U result for different reasons.

  • 34 AK Malaysia // Apr 1, 2012 at 5:56 PM

    sorry…..

  • 35 9 // Apr 1, 2012 at 6:01 PM

Champion’s League crack is hopeless – we’re nailed on for either 5th or 6th, as are Chelski, barring unfooreseen runs of form at this late stage of the season. Nobody can catch us and Chelsea, and we’re too far behind teams on very good form for either of us to finish 4th (barring flukes, as I say). I feel we’re much more likely to be 6th than 5th, but certainly have a realistic chance of 5th. Who’d a thought it?

  • 36 TinoToon // Apr 1, 2012 at 6:21 PM

Saw this on a forum: “I, for one, find it really ironic that Carroll went back to his old club on the only day that anyone could think he is worth £35 million, 1st April… (that’s April fools btw).”… ROLF

  • 37 bills-son // Apr 1, 2012 at 7:57 PM

    Spuggy @ 1 – spot on.

Pardew is brilliant in his interviews, I think (and hope) that he might become a legend at the Toon ans win us a trophy.

I honestly believe that is what AP and Ashley are desperate to achieve.

  • 38 bills-son // Apr 1, 2012 at 8:10 PM

    How magnificent was Perch today?

I really think this lad might be something special in the making. He has a calmness and control that reminds me of the late great Bobby Moore. I find it amazing I am saying that, but I try as I might I can’t stop thinking that.

The lad is a player, he really is, he just keeps getting better and better. And he’s only 22.

Bloody amazing – and fantastic – what is happening at our club now.

THIS guys is the real deal. We are FINALLY going places. We really are.

  • 39 Munster Mag // Apr 1, 2012 at 8:48 PM

Bills-son, perch and Moore in the same breath is scary, but I am so excited aswell. Pardew is clearly a very accomplished coach.

  • 40 lualua17 // Apr 1, 2012 at 11:13 PM

Fantastic win and team performance today I am buzzing after that result as we don’t normally play well against Liverpool. Cisse is proving a very shrewd signing 9 goals in 9 games I think it is now. Not too shabby at all. We need to try and keep this going for the rest of the season like Pardew said taking one game at a time and who knows where this can lead us :-) exciting times. What a game Perch had I wasn’t his biggest fan previously but I love to see players up there game and I give credit when it is due he has been magnificent. Perchinho :-D .

  • 41 lualua17 // Apr 1, 2012 at 11:16 PM

One thing I will say about what Perch did that I will probably get shot down for but I wasn’t too happy with the dive. I know AC did it but I don’t like to see players dive period. However I thought the ref took the correct action booking for Perch and Red for Reina because he should not have pushed his head forward at the opponent at all.

    Spuggy @ # 1

Have to agree with you there spuggy, the interview was perfect praised the right players without leaving the rest, is never negative about anyone.

A lot of managers (like dogleash) could take a leaf out of AP’s book on how to handle media.
