Cheick Tiote Returns – Only Change For Newcastle

Cheick Tiote is back in the Newcastle United starting line-up, as expected, for today’s clash with Liverpool at St. James’ Park.

But that’s the only change from the side that beat West Brom 3-1 last week at The Hawthorns.

And Pardew is expected to play again with the 4-3-3 formation, with Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba forming a lethal attacking three up front.

So it would appear that Jonas Gutierrez could again be at left-back,  with the midfield three now being Guthrie, Cabaye and Tiote, and Jonas is captain in place of his Argentine team-mate Fabricio Coloccini.

Ryan Taylor is back from his calf injury and is on the bench.

For Liverpool Andy Carroll, Jose Enrique and Craig Bellamy, all former Newcastle players, make the starting line-up.

Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel are the two center-backs,  and of course Steven Gerrrad captains the side,  and former Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson is on the bench.

Craig Bellamy could be the danger man for Liverpool.

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, James Perch, Jonas Gutierrez (c); Danny Guthrie, Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye; Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Shane Ferguson, Davide Santon, Dan Gosling, Ryan Taylor, Haris Vuckic, Shola Ameobi

Liverpool (4-4-2): Pepe Reina; Jon Flanagan, Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel, Jose Enrique; Jonjo Shelvey, Steven Gerrard (c), Jay Spearing, Craig Bellamy; Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez
Substitutes: Alexander Doni, Fabio Aurelio, Sebastian Coates, Maxi Rodriguez, Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing, Dirk Kuyt

All about the midfield and retaining possession today. With a weak defense, I hope the ball is in there third more than ours. We have the firepower we just need to get the ball in the right areas!

Bellamy’s and suarez pace against Willo is a slight concern. Hope perch has a good game.

I don’t fancie Flanagan and Carragher againt our top 3… they’ll be just as nervous. Carragher is way too slow and HBA will walk him.

I am very happy with formation, but maybe i would have played Vukcic or Dan instead of Guthrie, but it is probably a try to keep him in the squad next term.

Yes very happy with our team, best available. Finally Guthrie, Cabaye and Tiote start together. Livepool have got a very good team on as well. Hope our defence stays strong. Bit pessimistic about this match, be happy worth a draw.

Lol, neither team is holding back here, i predicted a tight game, but now it looks like both are out to outscore the opposition.
I dunno if i’m looking forward to it or if i’m dreading it.
Their back 4 is stronger than ours, or front 3 are stronger than theirs.
No way to presict this, we’re winning the midfield battle imo.

I think we’re stronger than them.
Kenny’s rolled the dice gambling on an attacking team.
We could over-power them in midfield.

An early goal or three will help 🙂

they will play only two in the centre we will play 3 plus (tiote is back) and ba getting backa little bit, the have no downing or kuyt on the wings, only belamy. No worries, tiote will stop gerrard, jonas and perch will have surez in his pocket, willo will deal with andy and simmo with guthrie or benny will stop bellamy. no worries. P.S DON’T FORGET WE HAVE KRUL!!!!! Comfident with HOME WIN! Howay the Lads !

I actually think they’re going to match our 4-3-3, would make sense looking at their line-up.

If HBA is on-song and carries on his unstoppable form, we’ll win.

Hope we retain possession and look to play passing football which we should as the formation suggests. Cabaye or Guthtie should be able to get forward.and help out the front trio

We’ve never won 3 games in a row yet this season….

This is a real test of this formation against a decent team – great to see Guthrie in there.

To be honest I think we’re so evenly matched that is could go either way – we could cancel each other out or it could be another 4-3 thriller.

finally we have got the team we always wanted to see. CAB, GUTHs and our lion Tiote together in the park. gonna be the game of the season.
    but still can’t believe PARDEW is ambitious playing 4-3-3 or 4 – 1- 2 -3 .
anyway at least he has finally learnt ” ATTACKING IS THE BEST FORM OF DEFENDING”
Looks like a tasty encounter ahead.
