James Perch Responds To Head-Butt Criticism

As we mentioned yesterday there’s been some ridiculous criticism of James Perch,  after he was stupidly head-butted on Sunday by frustrated Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Stupid Pepe Reina on Sunday head butts James Perch

Some of Liverpool’s  current and former players are trying to say that it was really James Perch’s fault that Pepe Reina was sent off, and the Spaniard will now miss the FA Cup semi-final and some other league games.

How’s that for shooting yourself in the foot?

And  we have a way of responding to ridiculous criticisms like that – pull the other one it’s got bells on.

Immature people always try to blame others for their own difficulties, and basically that’s what we’ve seen since Sunday, from the Liverpool side of things.

It probably shows the level of disarray the Liverpool club is in right now with six defeats in their last seven games.

And the only non-defeat in there was the 3-0 win against Everton, who made six changes to their side to rest players for the FA Cup tie against Sunderland in the next game.

The players who came out in support of Reina after Sunday’s game were  wrong to suggest James was at fault – and they know it.

The only mature thing we saw after the incident was Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard telling  manager Kenny Dalglish to get off the pitch, and not make things worse – great leadership  by the England International and Liverpool legend.

James was asked in the Newcastle Journal this morning about those criticisms, and this is what he had to say:

“I wasn’t really surprised by some of the things that were said – it’s Liverpool fans and all that,”  ”They can say what they want, it’s water off a duck’s back.”

“I’m not bothered, I don’t really read too much into it. I’m not a diver. People who have seen me play know what kind of player I am. I’m not going to go and dive about and act silly and the rest of it.”

“If someone makes contact with you, someone makes contact with you. That’s it.”  “He shouldn’t have done it really and I know deep down he’ll think ‘I shouldn’t have done that’ because it’s cost them at the end of the day.”

“It’s his actions that have caused it.”  “There’s no need for all the talk really, you just need to look at the telly to see he’s in the wrong.” “He was probably frustrated at the way it was going – I’m not going to blame him for doing it because he’s frustrated and he wanted them to do well.”

“Things happen; I bet he regrets it now.”

James is a doubt for tomorrow’s game at Swansea, and who would have thought six months ago that James possibly not being available for a game, would be any concern to Newcastle fans?

But that’s the extent that James has come on at Newcastle over the last few months,  and he’s put in some great performances for Newcastle recently,  including a stellar display at the back against Liverpool on Sunday.

And who was it that said that James was not a Premier League class player? 😀

James Perch  has done great for Newcastle, and long may it continue!

Comments welcome.

Perch is turning into one of my favourites. A cult hero indeed. He should go to the euros.

He has stepped up to plate and taken his chance, IMO willo has not and now it is time (if perchinho is injured) to focus on my least favourite player (in my past life before ov), Danny Simpson.

He is solid yet unspectacular! He has a lot to prove and if moved to cb he has a great opportunity to show us all the heart and desire we yearn for!

Sometimes an individuals performance can matter more than a result and if Simmo is thrown in at cb I hope he can be solid and reliable and show us he still has a future here.

The bindipper crowd should really let this go now. OK, we know they’re not used to being useless and decisions not going magically their way, and someone, somewhere has slipped up and lost their script of assured success, but come on lads – suck it up, this is life for the rest of us. Get used to it and knuckle down, forget ‘other’ players being at fault for our own gaffes, it shows as much dignity as a corporate body publicly supporting a racist…oh…wait…

You’ve got Simmo spot on. Solid yet unspectacular! Think if Perch is out, he might be our best option

Sorry for reposting but you can’t type for half an hour and then find the next article is up, c’mon lads please….

It can only be simmo really, but the CB position should nail him back – he can’t afford to be part of the wide midfield this game. Not really worried, I think he’ll be good there and Willo is starting to light up a bit now he’s got the back line boss’s job – he should keep them all in check. I think Santon should be in line for recall so Jonas can get his spot back, and if Santon behaves Jonas can be back to his old self terrorising the left side, he’s been missing for too long. If he did, we could finally see the most devastating attack formation we have had for some time.

On the old players who have gone, the formula is simple – forget their obvious football talent; what was sold and shipped out was their attitude – selfish, which is useless in a club, let alone a team. Those who have left may have sweated blood on the pitch and wanted glory, but behind the scenes they wanted as much money as they could, and when money & glory wasn’t forthcoming overnight, they wanted to switch loyalties to ANY club that could offer that quickest. By definition, cheaper, talented players who focus on the team as a whole and value the club as a tradition know exactly what they are fighting for, and because they aren’t ‘big’ signings, they know that hard work and dedication to the cause requires some patience and waiting in turn. That’s what we have exchanged those primadonnas for, and it’s all good. Thanks for the 4-4 joey, the 5under1and kev, and for getting us back into the Prem Jose and Andy, and farewell. Enjoy your money, it looks like that’s going to be your comfort when you look back on your career.

    There’s a rant of a morning 🙂

    Well said James Perch!
Lets look at the facts so the bindivers are in our reality.
    1) If you headbutt someone in a game its a red card offence.
    2) There is no doubt that Reina headbutted Perch, there was contact!
    3) Its immaterial what Perch does after the incident as the offence has been committed!
    4) If there was even just minimal contact the offence is complete and Reina is still off, but why does Perch feel he has to over exaggerate the situation? Simply because most commentators and officials somehow mistakenly view Liverfool as one of the elite teams that cannot be penalised or criticized. Perch would have acted the way he did because if he did not I am sure he would have felt that the offence committed by Reina would have gone unpunished. I am sure most other players view this the same way and feel they have to make sure the ref is aware the offence has been committed.
Finally James Perch was the only player in the world to have over reacted to this type of situation? Haway man it happens many times each game by each side, give it a rest, next week it will be another player from another team until players TRUST the officials, and that’s a long way off. The solution is video replay information to the ref and the ref stating his decision via a headpiece like they do in Rugby. That would inform the crowd and lessen the likelihood of problems between supporters after the game.
Rant over. Well done James Perch!

Lets get this straight, you are more upset with Perches theatrics than Reinas aggressive theatrics?

Yes Perch made a meal of it, he did so to make sure the ref punished him if we are all honest we know that was the reason because stuff like this goes unpunished all the time. Now ask yourself this, what was Reinas reason?
Well his was p issed off they were losing, p issed off they were being humiliated, p issed off the with his defence that allowed Cisse to embarrass him on two occasions, p issed off that we almost scored on several other occaesion, the list goes on and all on national TV. Then Perch trips him, WHOA thats the final straw, “im gonna split your smug nose wide open” thats what he wants and is saying in his head. Of course he cant do that and he knows it so what does he do? He ‘pushes’ him with his head. PATHETIC! If you are going to get sent of you might as well just go for it or whats the point? RED CARD end of!
Stop blaming Persh, there would be NO INCIDENT if Reina had of just walked up to Perch and told him to F off!
