Papiss Cisse – scored another two tremendous goals today
Here is Alan Pardew’s Sky Sports interview immediately after today’s great Papiss Cisse inspired 2-0 win at Swansea.
Now all that matters is to get 3 points on Monday against Bolton at home, and then the lads have 12 days of rest before we entertain Stoke City at St. James Park on 21st April.

Comment #1Great win today…..Pardew deserves a lot of credit for getting our tactics spot on today.
The only negative was that our passing was sloppy and we didnt retain the ball well enough.
Although, unlike swansea, we got the vital passes right even if some of the basics were messy.

Comment #5Great passes for both goals by Cabaye.
Especially he first as he didn’t have time to think bout it.
Great finishing too.
BA is happy at nufc,he like any striker doesn’t wanna go a game without scoring yet he’s delighted his team is winning and his buddy is scoring.
Load a bull bout him being unhappy

Comment #6Now we can simply observe our rivals, I for one will be watching Unwashed vs Spurs with a keen interest.
Chelsea vs Wigan should see Chelsea go above us again but I always have rooted for Wigan, except for when we play them, would like to be wrong but can’t see it.
Arsenal vs City is a big one, I absolutely detest City and always enjoy watching Arsenal play but for once I will be rooting for City.
Might try and give the Bolton game a gander too, they have upped performances in recent weeks, although I would like to think that we are too much for them, especially at home.

Comment #7What a great season, when you look at the total wages of the clubs around us, and their transfer fees, it shows how great Newcastle are doing. Who would have thought that our number nine Caroll leaving, would have been the start of such a great side. Newcastle have a number 9 now who can score alsorts of different types of goals, as proven today. Looking forward to every game now, hopefully we’ll have a strong finish, gain a few new fans in our pre-season tour, sign some quality players and do just as well next season, while playing a bit of footy in Europe, and maybe going a bit further with domestic cups.

Comment #8Will be extra interesting following the teams above and around us tomorrow.
We have 6th in the box, so not worried about that.
Hopefully Bolton will hurt more on Monday than we will.
Today we won without Collo, Vuckic, Obertan, Marveux, Guthrie, Saylor, Best, Loven available.
All down to Pardew and his gameplans coming through.

Comment #10Highly doubt we’ll qualify for champions league.
Still have to play Man City & Chelsea & go to Wigan who are fighting to stay up.
Way too soon anyway in my opinion.
Europa league will do me for now. 🙂

City, Chelsea and Everton by far the hardest games for us. I know Wigan can be a dodgy one, but it should be ok for us to take away.
We defend well once again, so it’ll be interesting, but one i honestly expect to win.
Time will tell, the pressure is on us now to grab that 5th.

Comment #12While I would be disappointed if we miss out on European football next season, I’d prefer Champions League or no Europa League at all. I’m worried Europa will harm us too much opposed to the positives we’d gain from it.
There is a good chance Man City will have nothing to play for come round 37. Chelsea will either have a CL final on their hands or have their season effectively over if they lose to Barcelona. Mind you, the only reason the players sacked AVB was they promised Roman the title he wants. It’s all that matters for them, FA Cup far 2nd in the priority list. They have too much reconstruction to do when this season ends.
Both games are winnable, believe it or not, I’m more worried about Everton at this point.

Comment #13Do you notice that Pardew is doing all within his powers to play down any chance we are challenging for a CL spot? Make no mistake, that’s exactly what we are doing.

No doubt that playing in the Europa League will have an effect on us, and perhaps there’s not much in it directly, other than u get to see a bigger variation of players coming out on the pitch for our team.
But there are so many indirect effects by hitting Europe, that we can’t really afford not to.
Sponsors, prices, reputation, player attraction, staying power for players already in the club, etc etc.
We need Europe mate, wether it’s the CL or Europa League doesn’t matter at this stage tbh.

Comment #15the difficulty of this everton game will be down to wether they are in the fa cup final or not, if i were everton manager and have a cup final coming up i would ask the players to go steady with the league game to be safe.

Comment #16yeh I think Pards in being clever, just trying to take the pressure off the team….he knows if we dont make champs league nobody will criticise the team so why build pressure and expectation.
We just need to keep going along picking up as many points as possible, its not in our hands so we cant throw it away, just pressure the teams above us.
I fancy the mackems to get something off spurs tomorrow though, which will help us.
Spurs are under a lot of pressure to make champs league….modric and bale could well be off if they dont and if they have any chance of keeping redknap they need it.
Also after spurs have spent a lot of the season close to the top 2 it will be a massive failure if they fall out of top 4, so much pressure on their team.

Comment #17Europa League will probably cost more than it will pay, Dannyo. It’s nowhere near financially to make up for the risk of dip in Premiership form. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll take whatever comes our way as we deserve it and the lads will be gutted if we miss out. But I don’t like EL nor I think it will be useful. And I’m adamant it will cost us points in the Prem.

I recently read that Stoke came away with a £2 mill profit or something along those lines, so there’s some, but not much.
As i said, there’s to much to make indirectly to say that Europa League is not worth it imo.

Comment #19I think well finish 5th/6th.
I’d be well pleased with that like.
If you qualify for champions league one year.
You have to do it next season & the season after.
Look at Modric at Spurs.
Spurs didn’t qualify the following season & he was looking a transfer straight away.
One step at a time thats whay I say… 😉

Comment #20Europa League is not an ideal competition to be in but it is essential to the bring the team on.
We need to get used to different styles of play, be able to rotate players, bring in some youth players in the europa league.
As long as our main focus is the premier league we will be fine.
Spurs were in the Europa League this year and its been their best season in the PL.

of all the thing you have said that is risky and different with europa league truthfully us in the champions league is only really different with money and players who will join. but have you thought of the big risk that you get with champions league a greater risk than europa league, that risk i am talking about is the expectation level next season.
as for your worry that europa league will cost us point more so than CL well i can’t see us avoiding a fall into the europa league from champions league

We’re in for some kind of Europena spot and deserve it over the season. I though CL was way ahead of where we’d be but even being dropped into the Europa after the group stages might work for us. The kudos of CL would keep some guys here who might think about moving on.
Interesting point about Citeh at SJP – they may only be playing for pride by then.
Same with Everton – minds eleswhere – so if luck goes our way we might get a CL spot. Poor old Enrique…..

Comment #24I don’t know why people think Europa League wouldn’t be good for Newcastle. It gives an extra 5 mill or so for taking part, gives us TV time and at the very least gives us a few extra stadiums of tickets into Newcastle. Competing in Europe would give Newcastle everything they need to make a profit, and build on the squad.

Comment #25next year i would say top 6 should still be the acceptable aim no matter where we finish this year unless we get very easy fixtures in christmas, ACON and easter periods 2013/14 is when i would start hoping we get top4 as we surely will have a good squad depth by then

Comment #26Makes me wonder how Newcastle will do next season with Taylor, our new CB, Coloccini, a new striker and perhaps Newcastles next midfield star to join the ranks from the French leagues. And with a fair few players leaving, maybe even a couple more. Newcastle Champions League next season if not this one?

Comment #27Okay, say 2 million profit. How many places down the Prem table in terms of prize money is that?
It’s not exactly Tottenham’s best season this year. Let it finish first. Plus you can’t compare. Tottenham already were in CL, they are much bigger squadwise, businesswise, etc. They are a different league and can support an additional cup run with fringe players. We can’t.
And about the danger CL could pose – omg, I don’t care, it will boost our finances so immensely! It depends vastly on the willingness of the board to jump a year ahead of schedule with transfers in the summer and while that constitutes a risk on its own, I’d take it in a heartbeat. Plus given the new format of the CL, I do believe we can get through the group stages.

Comment #29Anyone have any idea what the club would charge for a europa league ticket?
Bale will replace abidal at left back…they have villa, sanchez and pedro who can play left forward but the way barca play there full backs are almost wingers.
Bale and Alves either side will be an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Comment #34This is tottenhams best year….they were 3rd for so long and they fell away long after they left the europa league.
Their squad is bigger but we will add to ours in the summer and we can rotate a lot of younger players when we play.
You cant go from no europe to champs league really, doesn’t work like that, need to build slowly with a couple years europa league with our budget.

Obviously the strawberry syrup is currently doing wonders for all the players, maybe Ba has ran out due to them taking everything? 😛
They probably give the stuff to players that are injured to get them back quicker aswell.
But yes, we’re having an awefully, horrendus, horribly good season 😛

Comment #40The battle of the MOTS award is surely between Rodgers and Pardew this season. Pardew has noe outwitted Rodgers on two occations, and we’ve stolen 4 points from Swans. Should’ve been 6 tbh.
Pardew to get MOTS award? Atleast for me… And even more so if we actually make Europe.
