Erik Pieters Supporting Magpies – Go Newcastle, Keep It Going!

9:33 am, Saturday, April 7th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 11 Comments

It seems that Erik Pieters was following Newcastle’s game yesterday against Swansea with some interest.

Erik Pieters – Go Magpies – keep it going

And shortly into the game Erik sent out this tweet on his Twitter account:

”now checking the match, go magpies and tim krul, #getthose3points, already 1-0 papiss cisse, keep it going”

There could be nothing in this, but the rumors are that he is coming to Newcastle in the summer, and it could be the deal has already been struck by Newcastle.

Of course we also know that Tim Krul and Erik are very good friends,  so it could just be Erik following Tim in the Newcastle team.

Newcastle are almost certain to bring in a left-footed defender this summer, and Erik has been linked with us a lot of late, and of course Newcastle almost got him to Newcastle last summer, but presumably couldn’t quite agree the fee with PSV Eindhoven.

It’s also true that  if Erik was coming to Newcastle,  he would be hoping that Newcastle are in Europe next season.

For the record,  Erik has played 181 times with two goals for PSV since joining them from Utrecht for €2.5M (about £2M) in July of 2008, and he has played 21 times for the Dutch U21 side and 14 times for the full Dutch side.

Erik usually plays at left back but the 6’1″ defender can also play in central defense, and we should see him in action for Holland at the European Championships in Poland and the Ukraine this summer.

He could even be a Newcastle player by then.

Thanks to reader Chris Fairless for the heads up on Erik Pieters.

Comments welcome.

We will on sign him though if Simpson does leave
I think he may b leaving though
    Santon. Saylor. Colo. peiters
    That’s a strong backline

Has anyone seen if peiters is strong attacking? Much pace?

Haha I’m loving his shameless online flirting with the Toon! Wouldn’t be particular pleased if I were a PSV fan mind!

Pardew said after the game “some of our flair players were a bit flat, and strolling around, giving the ball away cheaply”.

It was Demba. It wasn’t HBA, he worked his socks off, as did Jonas, Cabaye, Cisse. Demba was very very poor, and never kept the ball once. We said weeks ago he needed a rest, but continued to pull Cisse off instead of Demba.

No doubts we looked far better with Shane Ferguson on the pitch yesterday.

Demba has had a brilliant season, but he needs a rest and needs to understand that he is stil playing a massive part of what we are achieving. He got hauled off yesterday and rightly so. But hopefully he will get a rest after this Monday.

Come on lads, get the win however it comes, not bothered how we play. We have a few knocks, and are struggling a bit with injuries but if we win that we have 12 days to recover for Stoke. We can do it.

I see Pieters as more of a centre back as he is not that quick, pretty solid though.

Anyone else impressed with Neil Taylor yesterday? Worth going back there and getting him i reckon if he is still on the cheap?

Lots of people praising HBA yesterday. I actually thought he had a very poor first half and did give the ball away cheaply. Second half was better though thankfully because he is certainly a handful when he runs at people – in the attacking half.

HBA never got much chance to run at people because of how we were playing.Papisse 1st goal came from a fabulouse pass out of defence by Cabye

In the past people on this blog have questioned Pardew’s tactical nous in some games, well to be frank they must be insane. Manu were ran into the ground, WBA were deliberately hit on the break, ans Swansea were allowed masses of possession in areas where we were able to control them at the end of their passing spells. The coaches behind Pardew must also have a massive part to play in our ability to get the players, especially those players who know they are not going to be first choice every game, to play to the patterns that will give us success against differing opposition styles. The whole squad appear to be motivated, hungry and willing to work exceptionally hard. I’ve said it before – if Ashley has them all on potentially massive bonuses geared to places in the final table, what better motivation can there be for the group as a whole, even the fringe players!

Erik Pieters is obviously recommended by Graham Carr. NUFC should try to sign before the start of the european competition in the summer because the price could increase after the euros. Erik is 23 years old, Holland international player 14 caps, he is their first choice left back for the euros. Nufc should sign him weather danny Simpson stays or leaves, they should have a bigger squad for next season because of the possibility of european football. Erik obviously likes newcastle and is following them this year and cheering them via his official twitter account. If he joins the toonarmy, it would be a perfect deal that would suit both parties. Possible of a bargain buy, with low salaries/wages. Tim Krul would be very happy, to have a close friend with him and makes feel happy and want to stay for a longer time. I reckon nufc are going to sign him if the deal is not already done!? who knows? HOWAY THE LADS

It has been hinted several times and in several media outlets that this is a done deal. Personally I hope it is.
