If Liverpool beat local rivals Everton in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday at Wembley then Newcastle will at least be in the Europa League next season.
Jonas Gutierrez – I still speak with Jose
That’s what could happen on Saturday, but when you look at the way Liverpool have been playing recently – hopeless – we would have to say Everton are the favorites to win that game.
The latest prices from bet365 for the Liverpool v Everton semi-final game are:
Liverpool 6/4
Everton 15/8
Draw 9/4
And since whoever Everton will meet in the final if they get through – Chelsea or Tottenham – will probably qualify for the Champions League – Everton could get the 3rd place spot in the Europa League next season, maybe even at the expense of Newcastle.
But if Newcastle can finish in 5th place, we’ll automatically get a Europa League position, and 4th place gets us a Champions League position, and both are very possible the way things stand right now.
Jonas Gutierrez, who we suppose is now the Newcastle official vice captain, had this to say to the local press today about Liverpool’s Jose Enrique:
“It’s hard, but I speak with him. I said ‘you have to focus on the semi-final’. “That can help us. If I was a Liverpool player, I would think the semi-final is more important than the league.”
“I spoke with Jose before and after the game. He’s a nice guy. They’re not having a good season, but they have good players.” “They have the semi-final of the FA Cup.”
“They have to think about that, and be ready for the next season. There’s nothing they can do this season in the league.” “There are a lot of teams taking good results.”
“All the season can change, and they could be brilliant next season. Pre-season is really important for all the teams.”
We’re not too bothered who makes the final between Chelsea and Tottenham, and we’ll be watching the game on Sunday, but a draw would be a great result for Newcastle, because it would further add to Chelsea’s crowded schedule through the end of the season.
We’ll definitely be watching the FA Cup final on Saturday with bated breath, and maybe the three former Newcastle players at Liverpool, Andy Carroll, Jose Enrique and Craig Bellamy can help us out – by playing well and helping Liverpool get the win, but of the three only Jose will probably start the game.
Here’s hoping for a Liverpool win. 😀

Comment #204Come on Newcastle. Champions League football would be great to boost the summer signings. And eventually as we build, the more money we bring in the quicker Newcastle can start paying its debt off. It would be great to be watching a Newcastle in ten years time, winning trophies and debt free. While the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd run themselves down to the ground.

Comment #205Some way off yet, but Man Utd won’t run the league for all time. Something will give eventually, and the sooner Newcastle starts getting Champs League football and clearing the debts, the closer we’ll be when the time comes to take advantage.

Willo out? Gosling out? Obertan out? Shola out? Someone been smoking the wacky backy, or clearly has no handle on the way Pardew goes about his business

Lot of privately educated hoorays at Durham.
Durham City is a cracking place but Newcastle has it and you can get a student accommodation 5 mins form the ground. No contest..
Newcastle has a good reputation but isn’t the Uni of choice for Oxbridge failures – they go to York or Durham

Comment #214Newcastle Uni is a fantastic Uni Hattam, if they are rated higher then I would go there 10/10. Plus it’s actually in Newcastle and you would be within walking distance of SJP! No brainer mate! 😀

Comment #215Now that Comilli has been shown the door by the bindippers, does that mean there won’t be any more 35M offers for unproven strikers? I rather hoped they would come in for Ranger now he scored for Wednesday. I would let them have him for several times his market value no problem.

Comment #221“I rate both of them higher than an average EPL squad player – a lot of guys seem to under-rate them.” Well said MagpiesFlyHigh.
“It’s not as clear cut as “Cabaye’s fantastic” and “Guthrie’s shit” Well said Twatter. Same for Simmo and Santon.
As long as the player puts the team before themselves and we can afford it. I don’t see why we can’t have Simmo, Santon, Pieters and Debuchy next season roating 60 – 40 of the playing time.
Certainly, it won’t help the players not getting the fans full support as long as they trying to do their best. Especially during the season when it can affect how they play.
If you love playing for a club and they bought a better player in your position would you leave? Or reverse would you do like Cesc trading playtime for titles?
So yeah stop with the listing of people leaving and talking shit about our own players.
Be positive, let them compete.
WWJBD probably goes with out saying but I agree we shouldn’t drop our English player to easily.
Beattie25 I agree on your argument that nationality doesn’t matter for the most part. However, if I have to equal players I would go for they guy not going away for African nations. Also I would pay a bit more buying and keeping Geordies.
With that said I wouldn’t mind having Diame (except Acon and high price) competing and growing in the midfield. He has potential.
Obviously, already having five people capable doing good job at DM. I would buy defenders and one or two more flair players up front.

Comment #224Chelsea to make the final because they won’t come forth and if it is them and Everton, Everton don’t quality if they lose but say if it is a 4th placed Tottenham against Liverpool then we have a problem.
I hope it is Chelsea vs Liverpool
