Who Are Newcastle Interested In At Lille?

9:38 am, Thursday, April 12th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 22 Comments

Newcastle have been watching Lille again a number of times this season.

Mathieu Debuchy – are Newcastle scouting this player?

Two of Newcastle’s targets last year played for the the French Champions, and we signed Yohan Cabaye and tried to sign their winger/striker Gervinho, but after a fee of £10M had been agreed, Newcastle apparently pulled out of the deal.

And if the local press is to believed, the reason for that was based on Gervinho’s character, and during the meetings with Newcastle, he was said to be continually texting on his phone.

That may have not been the only reason Newcastle did not pursue the winger, but it was probably in some way based on the lad’s character, and there were some reports over the summer actually saying his character was suspect, so that story could even be true.

But now there is news from Joe Cole at Lille, that Alan Pardew has been seen around six times at Lille games this season.

Eden Hazard is a big target for some top clubs, but the fee for the 21 year-old Belgium play-maker, is way out of the range of Newcastle.

And in any case the Tyneside club wants to unearth players,  who do not have high transfer fees on them – yet.

Alan Pardew works closely with Newcastle Chief Scout Graham Carr, and Alan said recently he would be taking in some games before the end of the season, to make checks on the Newcastle summer targets.

One player it could be is 26 year-old right back and French International Mathieu Debuchy, who has been linked recently with Newcastle, and is very good friends with Yohan Cabaye.

Mathieu made his debt for Lille back in 2003, and has so far played 279 times for his local club,  and scored 17 goals, and it’s the only club he has ever played for.

That’s much like Yohan Cabaye history, and Cabaye had only played for local club Lille before joining Newcastle last summer.

That’s our best bet for who we may be watching, any other ideas who Newcastle may be targeting at Lille?

Comments welcome.

Probably Debuchy, he is a utility player who is very comfortable at right back or holding midfielder ..

Hello everyone i have a question, surely if these fifa fair play rules apply we should be qualifying for europe now, none of our rivals man city, chelsea etc are within this criteria.

Please god it is not Joe Cole :)
Actually the Lille supporters must be getting pretty p*ssed of with us buying all their best players – similar to us and the bindippers!

For selfish reasons, hope HBA is not picked by France, else he’ll be off to Barca soon. That will make the club richer by around 40, but who’s counting?

Going by the Cabaye situation, we could sign some1 other than the one most touted like it was with Gervinho. So if Debuchy is the “Gervinho” then who could be the “Cabaye” ?

We are obviously in the market for a CB and LB but Lille’s LB is very much in the Santon mould, Rfooted so we can rule him out. That leaves a CB, Aurelien Chedjou who seems like a real Graham Carr type player.

Dirk – the Fair Play Rules apply to leagues as opposed to teams.

The top three countries in Uefa’s Respect Fair Play league get an extra Europa League place, which is given to the highest-placed team in the top flight’s Fair Play table that has not yet qualified for Europe.

In Uefa’s interim rankings, England are ninth in the Fair Play table so wont happen mate!

    Good Try ;)

I don’t think we are going to sign Pieters or any LB. Pieters is not as good as Chissoko imo, especially when he played vs England, he got beaten too easily.
We definitely need RB, I think Simpson will stay, but he can’t start in all the games like this season especially if we want to chalenge all cups. Tav maybe good, but he is unproven quality. Santon and Raylor will play LB with Fergie as backup.

I don’t think it’s totally out of the question that it could be Hazard, should we pip our rivals to CL.

He’s great friends with Cabaye and should Lille fail to make CL, could Ashley splash £18m, on a player who would enhance our chances of top 4 and could still double in value from the initial outlay?

I wouldn’t bet on it, but who knows!?

Hey, let’s talk about new kits and sponsorship. Everton are now with NIKE. Aston Vila sign 15M deal with Macron. What about us? Will it be Puma? I like these puma kits 11/12, but iwould like to see a more golden thouch (i would like to see a colar and golden numbers, wide stripes similar to what we have now). But how much money do we get from PUMA? And how long? Please answer :)

    Redondo

Pieters had just returned from a lengthy injury when playing against England, only playing 30 mins of footy prior to the match. I think he’s wrapped up.

Cissokho is awful and has become a butt of many jokes in France. I’m sure he’s scored 3 own goals this season(?) – Djimi Traore anyone? ;)

@ pardew’s fist pump hazard starting price is 25 mil nd set to start a bidding war with manure and all the other big clubs so could and up being 35 + so can’t see ash slashing that kinda cash would be nice tho lol

i had checked some puma kit’s for next year… i liked pumas africans jerseys (

but have worries that leaked newcastle shirts (http://www.footballshirtculture.com/12/13-kits/newcastle-united-12-13-puma-home-away-third-football-shirts-leaked.html) could be true, look at ilatys new euro kits( http://www.footballkitnews.com/3864/new-switzerland-jersey-2012-puma-swiss-home-kit-12-13/ ) and switerland… http://www.footballkitnews.com/3864/new-switzerland-jersey-2012-puma-swiss-home-kit-12-13/

@12 Toon Tom @6 Dirk. Tom, I think Dirk is asking about the UEFA financial fair play rules that are just coming into the game. As of 2013/2014 all clubs must break even based on 3 years accounts (with some caveats). Theoretically, if UEFA actually show some teeth, this will substantially affect Man City and Chelsea’s potential registration for Uefa Competitions, ie Champions League and Europa League. All NUFC financial planning is based upon meeting these requirements in the future.

Debuchy looks like a dead ringer for Yohan.

Should confuse the opposition when they interchange.

No more attractive French men for Newcastle…I have a hard enough time as it is.
