Carroll Scores Winner – Newcastle in Europe

In a great finish for Newcastle, in today’s FA Cup semi-final tie,  Andy Carroll headed the winner for Liverpool after 86 minutes to put Newcastle into Europe.

Andy Carroll scores winner against Everton today

Oh yes, I almost forgot,  and Liverpool reached the FA Cup final with their 2-1 win over Everton.

And over the 90 minutes Liverpool probably deserved to win the game although their defending at times was not good.

It hadn’t looked good for Liverpool in the first half , when Jamie Carragher had given away a terrible goal after just 23 minutes, when he dithered instead of thumping the ball away, and  Jelavic hit the ball into the back of the net, and Liverpool were 1-0 down at the half.

But Liverpool were a much improved side in the second half, although Andy Carroll missed an absolute sitter from just five yards out on 47 minutes, when he somehow headed the ball wide.

He used to score those when he wore the black and white stripes of his home town club Newcastle.

But then it was former Newcastle center-back Sylvain Distin who made a terrible mistake for Everton,  and his poor pass back was jumped on by Luiz Suarez, and he had the ball in the back of the net in a jiffy.

It was anybody’s game now, but then on 86 minutes, following a corner, it was that Geordie lad Andy Carroll,  who back-headed the ball into the back of the net, to see Liverpool into their second cup final this year, and it was Andy’s second goal this week.

But much more importantly, it means that 6th place in the league will qualify for Europe, and Newcastle are currently 12 points ahead of 7th placed Everton.

While it’s still technically possible for Everton to catch Newcastle,  we will go a long way to making that almost impossible,  with a win against Stoke next Saturday.

We need just 4 more points in our last 5 games to make 100% sure, but that also assumes Everton will win every one of their remaining games.

We’re in Europe next season – believe me – and it’s unbelievable.

Now let’s see if we can make it the Champions League!

Howay The Lads!!

@obatoyou: Last time we won 5 in a row was the 2006 season iirc (remembering stats from twitter, might be wrong haha) so we might have to go back to 02/03? If not earlier than that.

    boom boom

That post makes absolutely no sense. Surely you understand the irony/humor behind comments such as “Carroll fires Newcastle to Europe”.

It’s a joke. If we finish 6th, then we would not have got into Europe unless Liverpool won that game. That’s a simple fact.

People are happy. That’s a good thing.

Thank you JUDAS! Thanks to you I could be going on holiday somewhere warm to watch the toon play, what a hero! OOh hopefully a nice Spanish team not too far away from a nice beach, or Italy even. First time overseas to watch the toon looks more likely, and the way Newcastle are moving forward, the opportunity might come more often. Could still be going to Barcelona to watch the toon yet haha!

Tsunki, you could try looking for a Mackem, however the odds of finding one are about the same as Sunderland finishing above Newcastle.

Don’t we need to go through a qualifying stage if we finish fourth to end up playing in CL? That could be quite hard, no?

Yeah, and there’s always a few tough teams in there. But there’s also about 20 average ones from Eastern Europe! And if we lost, we’d go straight into the Europa League, so it wouldn’t be all bad.

Mutiny…I think Newcastle will automatically qualify for the 3rd round,,and if we lose in that round then we go to Europa League.

But if Newcastle starts from the 2nd round and losses that one, then its bye bye.

Yeah, Udinese for instance got knocked out by Arsenal in the prelims, and they’re still in the Europa League now!

There’s only one qualifying round by the way, as the Premier League is well seeded.

I’d love to see us go at Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Pardew is always very concerned with not losing, but seeing as we’ve nothing to lose, it’d be good to see us absolutely go for it.

Smashing Stoke to pieces in a week will send out a message!

What is all this rubbish that if Chelsea win the Champs league and finish 5th then a 6th place finish won’t qualify us for Europe. Of course it will.
