Manchester United After Newcastle Top Defensive Target?

There is news in some of the local Manchester blogs,  that Manchester United are after FC Twente’s Douglas.

Douglas – FC Twente’s Brazilian center-back

There was news last week that Newcastle are very close to tying up a deal for the 6’4″ center-back for around €5M, which is about £4.1M.

But reports today that Manchester United may also be interested in the player, but we wonder if the news is accurate.

Manchester United have been interested in Douglas Costa, the 21 year-old attacking midfielder for over a year now, and maybe that’s the player that’s being pursued,  and he is also Brazilian.

Costa currently plays for FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukraine,  and he joined them in January of 2010, on a five year deal for €5M.

Newcastle may well have the deal for FC Twente’s Douglas already tied up.

And with it now being very likely that Newcastle are at least in the Europa league next season,  the Tyneside club will be looking for more players over the summer months to bolster the Newcastle squad, because of the extra games the team will have to play next season.

Indeed Alan Pardew, the Newcastle manager,  has already said he would want five top players brought in over the summer, if Newcastle qualify for European competition next season.

The news last week on Douglas was in a Voetbal International report last Monday, that the center-back was coming to Newcastle, and this is what was reported:

“It is likely that Douglas Franco Teixeira continues his career at Newcastle United. The number six of the Premier League last winter was already in the market for the 24-year-old center defender of FC Twente and now has again expressed his interest.”

“Newcastle is prepared five million euros for Douglas to pay. The player himself is happy in England to continue his career, but wants to make the move until late August.”

“Then to play the Dutchman naturalized Brazilian five seasons in the Dutch professional football, and is entitled to play for Orange. “

We’d be very surprised if Manchester United are really after FC Twente’s Douglas.

What do you think?

Isn’t he a bit too off the wall type of thing for Ferguson to be bothered with? If he keeps getting a few red cards, that wont go down too well with ol’ festive nose.

We won’t be the only club after players this summer.

    Already reacted to this yesterday!

It would totally piss me off if Douglas ended up at Manchester instead of us! It would be typical though of how
other clubs are not only lining up offers for the players we already have ( Krul+Tiote )!

And also going after players who we have been targeting for months!

I’m not worried one bit now. Looking forward to bringing some great talent. Carr…..on our marks, get set, GO!

I watched the French club final yesterday and looked a bit at Amalfitano. He was playing on the right wing. The match wasn’t very good but he seemed decent. Often created something and nearly each time he crossed the ball in the box there was a teammate on the end of it. He also nearly scored (a header which the keeper pushed on the post but to be honest the keeper should have done better) and maybe he should have conceded a penalty.

Overall he seemed decent but one match isn’t enough to judge.

I have a feeling if we are after him a deal in principle is already done. If it hasn’t then I wouldn’t worry about him.

Yeah but guys dont forget how our transfers are done nowadays, i love the speculation of players coming in anyway!! but i take them all with a pinch of salt from the journos as i believe (if its still happening) that any club/player we are in discussions with has to sign a confidentiality agreement…once again a great way of handling our transfers

If you were Douglas who would you pick:

Suppose you had the chance to play at either us or Manchester!

I think not only money will be a deciding factor here!

But heh! This may just be media Bullshit!!!

Man utd have a CB Who is only 19 and won’t sign his contract and is a free at the end of the season.
Maybe we could go in for him.
He’s supposed to be a fine player.
Was on skysports yesterday that Spurs were gonna go after him.
    Ezekiel Fryers he’s called
    Anyone ever see him play?

    @alkinou

You watched Morgan Amalfitano who plays for Marseille.

Newcastle are believed to have agreed a deal with Romain Amalfitano, his younger brother who plays for Reims.

DavyB…Fraser Forster isn’t a patch on Krul – and you would soon notice the difference in ability if he were to replace him.

Man utd dont need douglas, they have Vidic, Ferdinand, Smalling, Jones, Evans, another load of newspaper sh1t, however no guarentee he is coming to toon either, will believe transfer news when pardiola comes out with some statement, this is not how we now do business anymore. On a side note lets hope the semi this afternoon goes to extra time and maybe Mata and Bale pick up some injuries that maybe makes them miss the rest of the year, maybe Modric and Sturridge as well.

Hopefully if he’s not arriving until August, then Steven Taylor will be ready and training for the opening game of the season.
