Pardew Lines Up New Transfer Targets For Europe

10:10 am, Sunday, April 15th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 29 Comments

Alan Pardew has already said that Newcastle will need four or five new signings  (make it five Alan), if Newcastle are in Europe next season.

Mathieu Debuchy – Lille right back a Newcastle target

The current plan was to bring in two top players in the summer, probably a center-back and a left-footed left-back,  but that plan is now likely to change with Newcastle almost certain to qualify for at least the Europa League next season.

6th place in the league will now qualify for the Europa League next season, after Liverpool beat Everton to reach the FA Cup Final yesterday, with Andy Carroll getting the winner on 86 minutes.

Newcastle will now likely bring in five new players this summer, and even more if Danny Guthrie and Danny Simpson leave, although there is more reason for both to stay, once Newcastle officially qualify for the Europa League next season.

Asked about whether European qualification would require more players being brought in over the summer, this is what Alan said today in the Sunday Sun:

“It will possibly change us a little bit.” “I think we would need a bigger squad, therefore where we might only bring in two or three we might need four or five to bolster the numbers.”

“We’ll have to see because obviously we’ve got contracts up here as well, whether we all agree to stay or they go as well. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Newcastle are 12 points ahead of Everton with only 15 points to play for so points won by Newcastle or lost by Everton will soon see Newcastle be in at least 6th place in the league.

Of course at the moment Newcastle are actually in 5th place two points above Chelsea and only one point behind 4th laced Tottenham so Champions league qualification is not impossible.

Transfer targets that have been listed by Newcastle seem to be Holland and PSV left-back Erik Pieters, France and Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy – Yohan Cabaye’s best friend –  and FC Twente center-back Douglas.

It promises to be an excellent and exciting summer for Newcastle fans,  as Newcastle bring in new players, and it will be even better if the lads can make the Champions league next season.

We wouldn’t put it past them!

Comments welcome.

Reports are coming in that Manchester City are planning a sensational bid for……. Papiss Cisse!! How much would you all sell him for?

  • 2 Wor Shearer // Apr 15, 2012 at 10:21 AM

    Not with Tevez back

  • 3 Wor Shearer // Apr 15, 2012 at 10:22 AM

The more speculation over our transfers the better. It means the other clubs will find it more difficult to grab our targets.

  • 4 Grafton83 // Apr 15, 2012 at 10:23 AM

If Andy was 35 mil then papiss is at least worth 70. We don’t need to sell anyone though so it really will have to be stupid bids to get hold of our best players.

  • 5 kkgghh // Apr 15, 2012 at 10:23 AM

try and get Sigurosson, is good to have a goalscorer midfielder.

  • 6 thebionicMAG // Apr 15, 2012 at 10:24 AM

Well, you really have to think outside of the box on this one cause there are 2 points. 1: How much is he actually worth in general and 2 (which is by far the most important) How much is he worth to NUFC?
If Torres can go for £50 million and Carroll for £35 then I would have thought Cisse could also go for £50 particularly to City who have no respect for the market and will just out price anyone and not give a monkeys.
To us he’s worth a high PL finish and a good run Europa or possibly even the champions League. So I say if City came in at £60 million then let him go, otherwise tell them to F+CK OFF!

Next season we need additional amunition as Pieters, Douglas, Vertonghen, luuk De Jong, and keep Fraser Forster for backup keeper in europe

  • 8 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Apr 15, 2012 at 10:27 AM

    The List is endless!

We are being linked with a different name every day!

No way Shitty would be coming in for Cisse! Are you
really telling me that you would take such reports seriously?

The endless rumours and bullshit run-a-round are just all part and parcel of what goes on continuously around Transfer windows and close season!

Iwill say this though! About Erik Pieters! The Dutch Press reports friday say that his foot is in plaster again! If we do sign him, there will be big question marks about his fitness!

  • 9 thebionicMAG // Apr 15, 2012 at 10:32 AM

Really you cant put a price on NUFC doing will in the League and the fans having the feel good factor, its just amazing. If we sell Cisse and or Krull, Tiote or Ben Arfa , yes we will get tons of money but it may put us back, only to have to build ourselves up again. I think sometimes you just have to be satisfied with how well the team are doing and just keep going.
If moneybag clubs come in and try to undermine all the good work we’ve done by buying the very players that have gotten us there, we’re always going to be in for a big premiership game of Snakes and Ladders. I think we need to get there first, establish the team (like Man U) Then start entertaining bids. Manchester United could sell Rooney and other top stars will still want to come because they are very well established. If we yo-yo every season because we are selling top players then others will think twice about coming.

am getting a bit sick of ppl thinking were jus gonna sell everyone

  • 11 Tsunki // Apr 15, 2012 at 10:38 AM

Re those players om short contracts, simmo guthrie besty – are they good enough for a euro squad? Probably. Are they expendable? Definitely. If they press for more cash than MA thinks they are worth, will they call his bluff? Doubt it because I am struggling to imagine a euro-participant team who will want them.

  • 12 Tsunki // Apr 15, 2012 at 10:41 AM

As for our ‘stars’ leaving, the AC saga is a stark lesson in what to expect for any predatory rich club.

well, this article isn’t today’s stuff, it’s the lask week’s

  • 14 jimmymagpie // Apr 15, 2012 at 10:52 AM

Let’s all start living in the real world for a change, and face a few facts. 1: This club is in the biggest debt in its’ history, some £140m, and the fact that the debt is to the owner, makes it no less real.2: Ashley is not a NUFC football supporter, and views his ownership of the club differently to Mansour and Abramovich.3: We have to balance our books. That is the owner’s dictat.4: To finance summer signings, it is blo-dy obvious that a couple of our blue chip players will be sacrificed to pay for them. I don’t want to see our better players leave, because if they do, we will never progress from where we are now, in fact, we will go backwards. You have to add to your quality players to progress, not sell them in order to finance other arrivals, but that is the Ashley philosophy.Roy Hodgson has warned his own chairman against such a transfer policy, if West Brom aren’t to start slipping backwards. Pardew stated this week that Tim Krul alone had won us in the region of 10-15 points this season. Where do you find another keeper like that? I am extremely apprehensive about what might happen this summer, because Pardew has worked miracles this season, in what is admittedly a poor league, but there is a very thin dividing line between success and failure in this league, and if the likes of Krul and Cisse in particular were to leave, a top six finish next season would just be a pipe dream.A few of you are lauding Ashley for his ‘financial prudence’. Well, just remember that when the wheeling and dealing starts, and the offers start coming in for our better players – you can’t have it both ways!!

  • 15 jimmymagpie // Apr 15, 2012 at 11:01 AM

Tsunki – Only one thing matters in the modern game, MONEY! Players don’t think about club loyalty or location these days – they sell their wares to the highest bidder, aided and abetted by unscrupulous agents. A good few of my immediate family are in the sports management business, both in this country and in Europe, based in Portugal, and it would make your hair stand on end if you knew half of what went on, even down to the manipulation of young players, by big clubs and agents alike. The business, for that is what it has become, stinks these days.

    @10
Im afraid we are getting used to the fact that we are now a selling club, that is why supporters are always looking over their shoulders when the transfer window opens.
I for one, would not be surprised if Ashley sells the whole spine of the team if good offers came in which would make him a profit.
You cant blame supporters for talking about the club selling our best players, because to be honest, that is what Ashley does.
If it was,nt for Graham Carr, who has a magic eye for a bargain,we would be Fooked.

  • 17 kilcline // Apr 15, 2012 at 11:20 AM

Today i pray for serious injuries and suspensions to Spurs and Chelsea players.

  • 18 WLtoon // Apr 15, 2012 at 11:21 AM

    @ 10
The reason why fans talk about the club selling our best players is simple, that is what Ashley does.
You cant blame fans for looking over their shoulders every time the transfer window opens.
I for one, would not be surprised if MA sold the whole spine of the team to make a profit.
If it was,nt for Graham Carr having a magic eye for a bargain,we would be f—-d

    Best Pardew video ever:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VomkssQel8g&feature=player_embedded

Also i’d take Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa over Douglas. MYM is class. Also if Ba leaves for PSG, I hope we can get De Jong along with Pieters.

  • 20 mot7 // Apr 15, 2012 at 11:59 AM

MA must realise better players = better results=euro football=more money for club = better players . the cycle doesnt include sell best players buy cheaper alternatives and hope they work your not going to find a cabaye or tiotte every summer .

  • 21 Ericles // Apr 15, 2012 at 2:07 PM

We can expect loads of end of season speculation about comings and goings at our club by the media. It is par for the course that the Canaries of The Wharf in London will tank up in their bars and print their unsubstantiated imaginations in their sad back pages. We all know that many media pundits imagine they are tootball agents, or even managers for that matter. I am putting my trust in the judgement of Pardew and Carr etc. We as a club, team, and fans, have made them all look totally stupid, and will continue to do so next season. The green mist of envy is beginning to hang like an old-fashioned smog over the alley ways of the London press world – and long may it be so!

  • 25 Solaidback // Apr 15, 2012 at 4:38 PM

Not sure what league table you’re looking at Ed but the PL table the Toon play in as us on even points (59) with the Spurts, some 2 pts clear of chelski, not 1 pts behind them, so we’re actually already joint 4th, tho the Spurts do have a better GD than us but the way Cisse is scoring, I doubt come the end of the season, there weill be that much of a difference…

As for new players, I doubt Cisse or Ba will leave this window buut we still need to get another young (non-african) striker in to coever them while on ACoN next Jan,…. we also need a CB, LB, DMF & ALM just to start with, then replace anyone who leaves or gets sold….

I think with watsgae, we’ll loose Smith, Lover, Kadar, Gutters & possibly Simmo, tho I hope those last 2 see sense & sign new contracts but if they don’t, I see at least 7 new faces coming in to help us in the Europa League…

  • 26 Hatem's better than Messi // Apr 15, 2012 at 5:14 PM

    @kilcline

It’s bad karma wishing injuries on players.
Do you want them to break legs or have heart attacks?

  • 27 sipie // Apr 15, 2012 at 9:39 PM

we will always find players to replace one’s sold no matter . whether it be tiote ba etc . we have the best scout in the business , he was at spurs for 5 yrs and brought in alot of the players theere now , he was also erriksons scout for may yrs esp at man city before they got stupid and erikkson has had some class players under his management . its the correct policy the likes of man city and chelsea’s owners can f off anytime . ive spoken to someone who used to work for ashley and his brother and he has a liking for newcastle and wants the team to do well . apologies for crap grammar

  • 28 HKTP // Apr 16, 2012 at 1:16 AM

    @ Kilcline

Disgraceful comment, you should never hope for serious injury to anyone. We’ve gone through the season with grit and determination, no need to sink to that level.

  • 29 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Apr 16, 2012 at 8:25 PM

    @17: Kilcline!

I am willing to try and believe you were joking with your comments about serious injury immo~!

And that the posts @ 28 and 26 can,t recognise a joke when they see one !!!!!
