There was some tragic news yesterday, that an Italian footballer died on the pitch, after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Piermario Morosini – tragic death yesterday – at the age of 25
Livorno’s Piermario Morosini has died after suffering a cardiac arrest during an Italian second division game at Pescara yesterday, and because of this tragedy, all Italian football games for today have been cancelled.
It seems that Morosini never regained consciousness, after suffering the cardiac arrest on the field, , and he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Doctor Leonardo Paloscia, one of the medical staff treating the player, had this to say to reporters:
“We have done everything possible to save him but he never regained consciousness.”
This tragic news comes just a few weeks after Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest at Tottenham during an FA Cup tie, but he recovered after his heart had stopped beating for 78 minutes.
And news last week that Muamba has been fitted with a small defibrillator, and has been cleared to start training at Bolton within a week or so.
The 25-year-old Morosini is a former Italy U21 International who was at Udinese until he moved to Livorno last January, and the Serie B game was abandoned yesterday.
Morosini fell to the ground with no one around him in the 31st minute, but unlike Muamba, he then got back to his feet, but then collapsed again, and an ambulance later came onto the field to rush him to the hospital.
There is news that the arrival of the ambulance was delayed in getting onto the field by a police car , and there will be an investigation into exactly what happened, that could have delayed treatment of Morosini.
The players looked bewildered and sad as Morosini was being treated, because they knew the player was in a grave condition.
Italian and Inter-Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia was a friend of Morosini, and he had this to say on Inter-Milan’s ‘s website
“There is huge grief. It leaves an enormous hole.”
AC Milan were about to play their game against Genoa, and the fans were already in the stadium waiting for the game to start, when the tragic news came through from Pescara.
It was announced initially there would be a minute’s silence before the game, but then the correct decision was taken to cancel the game, and all other games in the Italian League were canceled yesterday and today, in memory of Morosini.
It’s a very sad story, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Morosini’s friends and family.

Comment #1Very tragic indeed , RIP
I doubt Chelsea are genuinely after Krul, Cech already has a few years left in the tank and his replacement is already on their books (Thibaut Courtois) who is 19 years old and is on loan at Atletico Madrid is considered one of the best young goalkeepers in the world..
Tiote on the other hand is the worrying one, because Chelsea’s biggest weakness in their squad is the holding midfielder position , but we will have to wait and see if they do offer something crazy and our whether our board is willing to accept the money

Comment #2Its at times like these when you realise that there are more important things than Football!
The whole Italian competition has been cancelled for the week-end!
I wonder if a similar occurence in UK happened ! If the FA would cancel the whole fixture list here for the whole week-end!
A real tragedy though!
