News that Melbourne Heart defender Curtis Good is on his way over to England for a trial with Newcastle United.
Curtis Good – to have 1-0 day trial at Newcastle United
The 19 year-old 6’2″ central defender, is coming to Newcastle for a 10-day trial, so we suppose Newcastle also have scouts down under.
The left-footed central defender has looked good in his very first season in the A-League, and he joined the Heart from the AIS in February of last year, after he had looked impressive for AIS.
Curtis only tuned 19 last month, and he has already played 3 times for the Australian U20 side, so he would be one for the future at Newcastle.
General manager John Didulica, whose club was founded four years ago, confirmed the 19-year-old had just left for a trial at the famous St. James’ Park club, as he tweeted:
“Curtis Good left last night for a 10-day trial with EPL’s Newcastle United.”
Good has made 25 appearances with one goal for the Heart this season, as he replaced the departed Adrian Madaschi.
The ball-playing defender has just recently signed a multi-year contract with the Heart, who unfortunately play in red and white stripes.
And as fate would have it, Good made his debut for the Melbourne Heart against the Newcastle Jets in the first game of the 2011–12 Hyundai A-League season.
We’ll have to see how well this lad does at Newcastle over the next week or so.

Comment #2When you say he has looked good in his first season, have you actually seen him play or have you heard reports he has looked good?

Comment #3take a look at this vid of toby alderweireld! it’s hard to judge the quality of a player by watching videos on youtube but this is quite tasty!! after watching this i’d prefer him over verthongen, and it seems like the ajax-supporters rate him higher aswell.

Comment #5What’s a ‘1-0 day trial’ Ed (see under pic)? Just kidding. Anyway, on the previous article, imagine a top talent Newcastle fan (Johnson) playing for his team, that would be something to see. Wonder why City don’t rate him…

On the attack a bit there mate and in ed’s defence he has looked good enough to warrant a trail with nufc and a 20 000 mile round trip.

Comment #7Can’t harm having look at him.
Johnson, I can’t see it happening purely because of wages. I don’t think we would have a problem paying 10+ million for a player because as has been said by the club fees are now paid outright immediately . A wage of 80 thousand a week continues to drain you for 3/4 years. Can’t see any new signings getting offered more than 50/60K/wk
On CB- I like the look of alderweireld, purely because he seems to have a penchant for smashing them in from 30 yards.

Comment #9I didn’t realise we had scouts in Australia! Quite an adventure for the lad – could you imagine when you were 19 (a couple of years ago – cough cough) going to Australia for a football trial.

Comment #10Imagine the options we could have if we bought the two defenders…
Alderweireld—-Saylor—–Collo—-Santon
Alderweireld—-Saylor—–Collo—-Vertoghan
Santon—-Alderweireld—-Saylor—-Vertoghan
Simpson—Alderweireld—Vertoghan—-Santon
I could go on forever!… This would give us a much more flexible defence and we wouldn’t be too hard hit by injuries/suspensions/resting players..

Comment #11Im from and live in Australia and this had come as a shock to me. I’ve watched him many a times over the course of this season and he’s done alright but he isn’t one I’d believe would make the cut.
All be it, over the season he has played alongside another 19 year old defender and they did play quite well but the standard is different. He could possibly suit the Championship or lower leagues but maybe with our coaches he could improve hopefully.
The Australian market does have a few hidden talents under their skin

Comment #12Rather quiet on the blog today…
Hope Wigan beat Arsenal tonight, but get a couple of red cards to key players so we can beat them more easily.
Saturday will be massive in the “4th place race”. Mind, we could possibly be aiming for 3rd if Wigan win tonight, but that might be a bit too optimistic, but we’ll see in 7.5 hours time.

Based on your comments it would suggest perhaps he is one to potentially join under the new reserves squad that is to be invested in instead of challenging right away for a first team place.

They will rest a lot of their players, meaning we got a good chance of taking the game to them

Comment #26I think Hazard would go for 15 million with a bit of graham carr magic… also if we could get the two ajax boys Jan Vertoghan and Weildereld (close enough) … Then that would do me … maybe throw in Luuk De Jong and his brother Siem De Jong?…. Am I asking too much ??? …. Maybe…

Comment #27We dont have any young centre defenders pushing for first team spots for the first time in years (Saylor, Ramage, Edgar, Kadar in the past.) so this could be good.

Comment #30Dont think we are after Vertonghen or Alderweireld. Think about it.. our targets are usually unkown to the press. The press have been all over Pardews trip claiming those two. Smoke screen.
The other player on show for Ajax were
Kenneth Vermeer
Vurnon Anita
Daley Blind
Gregory van der Wiel
Theo Janssen
Derk Boerrigter
Ismail Aissati
Christian Eriksen
Siem de Jong

Comment #33Christian Eriksen is the kiddie, gets on the ball and makes things happen, however as much chance of getting him as us getting Hazard or Vertoghen, i wud think that Aberderwielderbelder wud be the one we are looking at, cant wait to get a shirt with his name on the back.

Comment #34This guy is a decent defender, he doesn’t do anything special but he is consistent and gets the job done. He doesn’t do anything that makes him stand out but the fact that he was a regular at the age of 18 and can handle the league is probably the reason we’ve got him on a trial. This is what I think our new youth players will be like, not from big clubs or big leagues but are playing regularly where they are and doing a good job. The scouts will be looking at these players and thinking about bringing them in and making them better and opefully good enough for the prem.

Comment #35Eric Pieters wont sign as he is a bit stiff, lacks pace and technique, his time has gone, forget him, i know from a gud source that he wnt be coming.
Should go and get Baines and then switch Santon to other side, modern day full backs must be able to join in when we have the ball, this is why the top teams are so gud, so many more extra options.

Comment #36Vertonghen will never sign for us because we wont pay Ajax’s value for him and he wants to go to Arsenal.
Good’s looked alright playing for Heart. Decent defender like. Although watching A League matches is like watching Blue Sq. Premier.

Comment #37If hes at Ajax, hopefully he has half an eye on Erikssen to ask Mike for a luxury buy for Champions league :D.
As for a left back goes, im sure Carr has a few tricks up his sleeve. Maybe another bid for M’Bengue? We need a left footer, Santon is probably one of the most one footed players ive ever soon…still good though.

Comment #39He looks like a replacement for Tamas Kadar, who Alan Pardew blatently doesn’t have too much faith in. Hopefully Tamas Kadar will head out and this lad will fill his shoes. Sell Williamson for Douglas, buy one of the Ajax CBs, unbeatable defence with Erik Pieters and Santon at RB.

Comment #40Totally off topic….whats happened to steve harper???????
Earlier in the season he was in competition with Elliot for the bench, but in th epast few months since his loan month hes dropped completely off the radar?
Dont even see him in training ground pictures anymore?
