Newcastle are going to be linked with a lot of players over the summer.
Newcastle still interested in 20 year-old Anthony Knockaert
We have already been linked with many players since January, and we’re trying to keep a list of them, but of course very few of the stories will actually have anything behind them.
Some news today is that Newcastle are interested in 20 year-old French midfielder Anthony Knockaert, who currently plays for Guingamp in the French second division.
The news is in talkSPORT, and this is not the first time we’ve been linked with the player, and our records show there were reports Newcastle were interested in him, back in early December of last year.
Anthony has so far played 10 times for the French U20 side with four goals, and of course Newcastle have had great success over the last year or so, with players imported from the French leagues.
One advantage is that Anthony would settle in very quickly at Newcastle, and we assume that Graham Carr has been scouting the lad, and Newcastle could bring him in over the summer as one for the future, much like they did with young Mehdi Abeid last summer.
Guingamp are currently 12th of 20 sides in the French league and have been slumping since December, when they were 3rd top of the division.
There are many clubs said to be tracking the youngster, but Newcastle’s name in France at the moment is right at the very top, so Newcastle could still be in with a good chance, if they want to bring the lad to Tyneside.
Anthony signed for Guingamp from Lesquin in 2009, and has appeared 62 times for the French club with 14 goals since then.
His contract runs out in the summer of 2013, and the new news is that Montpellier, who are currently top of the the French League with 66 points, two points clear of PSG, seem to be leading the chase for the youngster.
That’s according to reports in France, but there are many other clubs said to be tracking the top youngster.
Anthony is 5’9″ tall, and the right-footed player usually plays out on the right wing, and he is almost certain to leave Guingamp this summer.
