Cheick Tiote Returns – Tim Krul Passed Fit

As expected,  Cheick Tiote returns to the Newcastle United midfield for today’s game against Stoke City at St. James’ Park.

The good news is that goalkeeper Tim Krul is fit and will start in goal for Newcastle – Tim has never missed a Premier League game all season, but suffered a back spasm late last week.

But the rest seems to have done the trick for Tim, and Newcastle are again expected to be in a 4-3-3 formation against Stoke.

And Leon Best returns to the bench for Newcastle after recovering from his knee injury.

This is an important game for Newcastle, and they have a chance of notching their 6th win in a row against the Potters this afternoon, and possibly being 4th top of the table tonight after Tottenham play at QPR.

For Stoke this afternoon,  Peter Crouch, the England striker, starts up front.

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez; Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Shane Ferguson, James Perch, Dan Gosling, Ryan Taylor, Leon Best, Shola Ameobi

Stoke Stoke City (4-4-2): Asmir Begovic; Andy Wilkinson, Robert Huth, Ryan Shawcross (c), Marc Wilson; Ryan Shotton, Glenn Whelan, Wilson Palacios, Matthew Etherington; Jonathan Walters, Peter Crouch
Substitutes: Thomas Sorensen, Matthew Upson, Dean Whitehead, Jermaine Pennant, Cameron Jerome, Ricardo Fuller, Kenwyne Jones

1)HBA would easily beat the Stoke left back – whoever he is

    2) our midfield is better twice than their midfield

    3) maldini is left footed

i am finding it difficult to decide the final outcome of the game between arsenal and chelsea one part of me wants arsenal to win which can help with us securing 4th place even if we lost to chelsea. but i also have part of myself wanting chelsea to win because we will have two teams who we can hope to do a slip up

I hate Van Persie with a passion, but I can see him getting a late winner. It would be typical.

Then we can hopefully take 2 points out of both of them.

A draw means 4 total points dropped by two teams around us. It’s the best outcome, I think.

wardy your not the only one who feels sorry for perch getting dropped, after the permance he has had in the last few games he deserves to keep his place. this might be rubbish news paper stories but one said simpson will only sign if he gets a 15K payrise so i can see him being sold in summer, so why not play perch in his place for the last 5 games or try santon there while perch is LB until petiers arrives

I think to be fair to the lad. When you look at what Steven Taylor is on, and Coloccini, and some other players around him, it’s not too unfair to be asking for a closer amount. Afterall he’s been in the team for Newcastle all season, and on stats been one of the best defenders. I think 30k per week would be fair and then if it comes between him and santon for rb next season, then it’s worth it.

    wor shearer
because of how poor our GD is, a draw is what i don’t want as it will mean arsenal will need a loss and draw for us to catch them while chelsea will be 1 point behind us so we can’t would have to win chelsea otherwise rely on them dropping more points in other games. it

I don’t think we can rely on GD at this stage, it’s points total or nothing. Doubt we can out score them now, but Cisse, Ba and HBA might have something to sa about that.

In fairness to Van Persie he didn’t appeal for the penalty, it was more the crowd.

Looking at the team we’re playing today it should be 3 points for us!

wor shearer that was why i said a draw is not the best i would say arsenal win is the best as chelsea can go 5 behind us while a draw would mean chelsea 4 behind
but what both thing have in common is that arsenal are atleast 1 loss and draw behind us

I always find it weird how refs seem to give more penalties to the top sides like man utd, arsenal etc

if they are influenced by the crowd it would surely be at noisy grounds like ours, stoke’s etc…..but that isn’t the case.

Or it could be the top sides have more skillful players and are therefore more likely to be caught turning etc….not sure just seems unfair
