As expected, Cheick Tiote returns to the Newcastle United midfield for today’s game against Stoke City at St. James’ Park.
The good news is that goalkeeper Tim Krul is fit and will start in goal for Newcastle – Tim has never missed a Premier League game all season, but suffered a back spasm late last week.
But the rest seems to have done the trick for Tim, and Newcastle are again expected to be in a 4-3-3 formation against Stoke.
And Leon Best returns to the bench for Newcastle after recovering from his knee injury.
This is an important game for Newcastle, and they have a chance of notching their 6th win in a row against the Potters this afternoon, and possibly being 4th top of the table tonight after Tottenham play at QPR.
For Stoke this afternoon, Peter Crouch, the England striker, starts up front.
Teams:
Newcastle United (4-3-3): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez; Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Shane Ferguson, James Perch, Dan Gosling, Ryan Taylor, Leon Best, Shola Ameobi
Stoke Stoke City (4-4-2): Asmir Begovic; Andy Wilkinson, Robert Huth, Ryan Shawcross (c), Marc Wilson; Ryan Shotton, Glenn Whelan, Wilson Palacios, Matthew Etherington; Jonathan Walters, Peter Crouch
Substitutes: Thomas Sorensen, Matthew Upson, Dean Whitehead, Jermaine Pennant, Cameron Jerome, Ricardo Fuller, Kenwyne Jones

We’ll still have a game in hand over Arsenal at the end of today though, wont we?
So we could be three points behind them with a game in hand

Comment #43I hate it when people get over confident and start making predictions like we’re going to win 2/3/4 – 0
and benny’s going to tear their left back a new one, as it always comes back to smack us in the face. We all want it, but don’t tempt fate.

Comment #46Perch and Raylor should be in for Williamson and Simpson. Apart from that, It’s a good team. Hope to see a Ba goal today. Santon needs to shoot more when he gets towards the 18 yard box.

Comment #47Great result for us, a win today takes us 4 points ahead of Chelsea after playing the same games and 3 points behind Arsenal playing one game less… that’s absolutely perfect!

Comment #52Im going for a 2 0 win today ba and cisse.
I said what i though of Danny simpson in last post but people then say he is a good defensive rb. If etherington is on the left today look how much space simpson will give him because he has pace it will be stupid. Any quality rb would be told to stay tight to stop crosses into the box but simpson will back off all the way into our box he is a joke. Somebody said outside of the top six who would you have in front of him well of the top of my head i would take:
Coleman
Hutton
Johnson and kelly
Anyway hopefully the lads shipped out along with williamson in the summer and we can add some quality to the team.

We have 2 games before we meet them, so don’t count your chickens. Noticed many fans getting carried away during this break, the most important game is the next one, never take your eye off it!

Comment #56In fact, why would you play Perch ahead of Williamson?
Why change a back line that has conceded one goal in five games?

Comment #60Because Raylor’s miles better defensively and attacking wise. Can’t believe Simpson’s still in the team. He is by far the worst right-back in the division. Feel sorry for Raylor and Perch. They deserve to be playing based on their performances.

I’m not saying Paolo Maldini knows better what foot he uses than Brutoon, but according to this article, he started his career as a right back, as he was right footed. But as I said, it’s Brutoons word against Maldinis 😛

It’s bloody ridiculous mate. Do people watch the same games as me? I’m not so sure.
Shipping Williamson out? If some people had their way, we’d have a squad of 11 players. Williamson is a player happy to sit on the bench and wait for his opportunity. Try finding a CB as consistent as Williamson to do that. Good luck.

That did make me laugh haha. I’d love to see Brutoon sat in a room with Maldini, having it out with him over which foot is his best.

@TDS: Remember the whole “player power” shite that went around with Nolan and Barton and that? Well what we’re seeing here is similar; it’s called “fan retardation”.
