Fabricio Coloccini – It’s All Good News At Newcastle

As we reported earlier this morning Danny Simpson is till refusing to sign the latest contract offer from Newcastle United.

Fabricio Coloccini – Newcastle’s loyal captain

But Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini didn’t hesitate too much,  before joining his Argentine colleague Jonas Gutierrez,  in signing on for a long-term deal to stay at Newcastle until the summer of 2016.

It would have been rather easy for Colo to have left Newcastle in the summer, and some top European clubs would have been only too happy to have signed him up, after his excellent form for Newcastle over the last three seasons on Tyneside.

But Fab is pleased he stayed on Tyenside:

“People left and I suppose I could have too.” “I was thinking ‘I have a black star on my career CV’ because we were going down.”

“But I felt responsibility and wanted to turn it around. I wanted to fix the damage and repair things.” “Yes, but I wanted to stay. I was happy here.”

“Now it would be our dream to get in the Champions League.” “But we’ll soon wake up if we don’t focus on the last five games.”  “We’re happy because we are near to confirmation we’ll be in the Europa League.”

“It’s all good news at Newcastle. The fans can be happy going into the final five games.”  “At the start of the season we started to think about getting 45 points first.”

“The first aim was to be in the Premier League next season. But we did well throughout the season. We’ve kept our feet on the floor. That is the reason why we are fighting for a European position.”

3 points against Stoke this afternoon would almost certainly guarantee a place for Newcastle in the Europa League next season, but of course Newcastle could also make it into the Champions League, if they can keep  up their good form of the last five or six games.

All those football pundits who wrote Newcastle off almost three years ago, when we were relegated,  are now having to eat their words, and it would be especially good if Newcastle can make it into the European Champions League.

If we can do that we will have seen Newcastle make an amazing, and even stunning, comeback to the big time – and it’s dedicated and loyal players like Fabricio Coloccini that we have to thank for that.

Howay The Lads!!

I still want a chelsea win today coupled with a QPR victory. We would then be 5 points off 3rd with a game in hand. Tasty.

Chelsea will get hammered at the nou camp and then have the headache of playing us and then the fa cup shortly after.

It’s a delicious set of circumstances evolving in front of our eyes and we are in the thick of it. So much to play for. 1 game at a time whilst all the other teams have their distractions.

Will Harry stay? Will RVP stay? Can Chelsea win the champions league?

    We could do this!

    downuder –
think that’s a typo rather than incorrect spelling.
Let’s not start on spelling and typos.
    We all make them.
    Thnaks in anticipation.

It’s good that the players are as excited by the prospect as we are. Especially as players like Coloccini didn’t think he’d touch close to Champions League football while at Newcastle, so this is a massive bonus for him, and deserved for loyalty in staying with the club. And players like Cabaye coming in probably on expected Europa League in about another season or two. They know if the work their magic, there can be some big games against massive European sides next season, and their success on the pitch for the next five games, could fund that extra quality in players coming in.
