Pardew – We Showed Real Quality Today

6:29 pm, Saturday, April 21st, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 107 Comments

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was a delighted man after the 3-0 demolition of Stoke City this afternoon.

Yohan Cabaye scores Newcastle’s first goal today

Newcastle were 2-0 up after 18 minutes,  with Yohan Cabye getting the first goal, after a Papiss Cisse header had hit the cross-bar,  following magical work down the left wing  by Ben Arfa.

And then a  superb Yohan Cabaye through ball after 18 minutes, had Papiss Cisse beat the Stoke defense with his speed and his deadly accuracy,  as he slotted the ball home for his 11th  goal of the season for Newcastle.

A second half goal from Cabaye – his 5th of the season for Newcastle – was enough to give the Magpies an emphatic victory this afternoon and Newcastle looked a very good side today.

Alan Pardew was a delighted man after the game:

“We showed real quality today. Cabaye, Hatem, Cisse, Demba were a problem for Stoke all afternoon.”

“Once the first goal went in, we was in total control of the game.”  “Yohan Cabaye’s pass was exquisite, one of the passes of the season for me.”

“He’s fine, it was good to protect players after going 3 up.”  “Williamson was outstanding in looking after an England International in Peter Crouch.”

“Hatem’s workrate was phenomenal.”  “Six wins on the trot is a fantastic effort. We’ve just got to try and win every game and see where it takes us.”

Yes it’s six league wins on the trot now for Newcastle,  for the first time in about 18 years,  by our reckoning.

And Newcastle are now currently in 4th place in the league table, 4 points ahead of Chelsea and 3 points ahead of Tottenham – who are currently playing QPR and are one goal down at half time.

Newcastle have put themselves into a great position to challenge for a Champions League place for next season.

We need real quality for the remaining games……..Come on Toon

  • 2 SmileyFace // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:35 PM

Everything about our setup, management, scouting and team are just clicking together. The only thing that annoys me is how Pardew says ‘we was’.

    It’s we were !!

But, i think i can forgive him for that :)

  • 3 Garreth // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:36 PM

Glad to hear Cabaye is fine and his injury isn’t serious. Fantastic result today, let’s keep this momentum going!

Pardew – You are my hero right now!

  • 4 bambams // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:36 PM

Second half about to kick off QPR v Spuds…… Come on Barton do us a favour !

  • 5 Garreth // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:38 PM

Ha Smileyface, I think of the complaints about managers we’ve had since Sir Bobby, that’s one of the ones we can let slip by!

  • 6 Toonaholic // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:38 PM

Good lord, spurs fans are talking about sacking Harry and replacing him with none other then Pardew, tossers!

  • 7 Toonbyblood // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:38 PM

Loving this… my Liverpool friends are now congratulating Newcastle after bagging us out all year.

And loving this fact: Downing cost more than Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Tiote, Ba, Santon and Krul combined.

  • 8 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:39 PM

It’s about time all the fans gave credit to Ashley – I noticed pards mentioned him in the interview.

Ashley made some crazy mistake, got us relegated, but he has really learned how to run a football club on a tight budget. He put up with incredible stick from the fans, but he stuck it out in the end and deserves credit for saving us financially and turning us into a force to be reckoned with in the PL.

How many fans would want to see Ashley sell up now I wonder!

Fans, Player, Pardew, Staff, Board and Ashley. Thank you. Forgiving me one of the most memorable seasons in a long long time.

Which pass of Cabaye’s was better, this one or, the one for Ba against Villa (I think)? Two of the passes of the season!

We’ve almost got enough gems in the squad to make a crown, now ;)

  • 10 SmileyFace // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:39 PM

    @Toonaholic

I love a good laugh ! Could you link me the forum / article you read it on ? If there is one that is !

    Toonbyblood

It’s an amazing year, and stats like that just widen my grin :D

  • 12 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:40 PM

Tiote and Guti absolutely owned the midfield today and provided steel which allowed Cabaye to roam forward. Such a lovely balance to the team.

  • 13 bambams // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:41 PM

I hope QPR stay cool, two players booked in first half we dont want to see any red cards.

If Spuds dont get a result here, the Southern press will be in tears……What the hell will they print ? Wont be Newcastle, more likely back page article on the long running Olympic stadium debate !

  • 14 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:42 PM

If spuds get beat I will pee my pants!!!!! Ooook!

  • 15 SmileyFace // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:42 PM

  • 17 Cheik_n_Bake // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:43 PM

think that was our strongest 11 out there today, could only really be improved upon with a new rb and cb (taylor or new guy)

BUT i honestly hate saying that cos willo n simmo have shown better attitudes towards OUR club than most ‘quality’ players who have came in over the past decade who have only been here for the pay packet. They deserve respect, which has been lacking towards them by most on this blog.

therefore anyone calling for major investment should F**K OFF, we need to keep this bunch together, not upset anyone, and carry on making shrewd signings like we have been doing.

would love to see johnson as back up to BA/Benny but if hes gna act a spoilt pr*ck like he has at city then no thankyou…

Sunderland are gonna finish in the bottom half of the table! They have manu to play yet haha

  • 20 philippealbert // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:45 PM

Come on QPR, finish the job. This is just getting better every week: fantastic win, perfect 0-0 between Arsenal and Chelsea, and Spurs one goal down and playing poorly. Could it be better at the moment?

  • 21 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:46 PM

Willo has looked a LOT better of late – think he’s found his form of old.

  • 22 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:46 PM

It’s like all the bad luck we’ve ever had had gone this season and all the luck in the world is going for us!!

  • 23 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:47 PM

Did anyone else think Pards looked a little subdued in his BBC interview. Strange.

  • 24 SmileyFace // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:48 PM

I can’t believe that spuds fan said that !
Makes you wonder though, if Pardew was offered the Spurs job, what he would do.. hmm.

  • 25 Garreth // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:49 PM

Stoke manager Tony Pulis: “We had a lot of chances today. Jon Walters, who I think the world of, could have come out of the game scoring a hat-trick.
“But the difference in both boxes was they hit the target and we never. From being very much in the game we were 2-0 behind after two very poor goals.
“At the start of the second half we thought if we could get that goal it would have been game on. But the third goal was very poor again and that gave them the momentum to go on.
“You’ve got to give our players credit – they kept going and kept going. I don’t think it was that bad a performance.”

Was Pulis watching the same game? Our 2nd and 3rd goals were just class, and Stoke City didn’t come close at all. Shocking interview by the man.

  • 26 Toonbyblood // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:51 PM

It’s like Ameobi, they bring a spirit to the dressing room. Teams need that.

  • 27 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:51 PM

Stoke were shocking, horrid brand of football – totally outplayed, outclassed and out finished.

  • 28 davybtoon // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:51 PM

  • 29 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:52 PM

I meant luck of results around us davy.

  • 30 Matthew Tom // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:52 PM

Still worrying about Chelsea winning the CL. We really can finish 4th but Arsenal getting a point today means it almost certainly won’t be 3rd.

  • 31 Toonbyblood // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:52 PM

    OK
so if today’s team was our best team. Who would you pick as your second team?

  • 32 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:53 PM

Didn’t realise Walcott is out for the season.

  • 33 Toonbyblood // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:53 PM

To make it easier you can have 3 players from today’s team in your side.

  • 34 Pecorino ( will let you figure it out) // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:54 PM

  • 35 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:55 PM

To think we have Marveaux, Vuckic, Abeid, Ferguson, Tavernier which we’ve yet to see properly, not to mention the return of Saylor and super utility players Raylor and Perch – exciting times!

  • 36 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:56 PM

    Ekotto injured :-)

  • 37 Robby Bobson // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:57 PM

Pecorino…abosotley controlled the whole game….hatem was majestic, cabaye finding some great space, cisse top class.

After about 65 minutes we made a few subs and just gave up trying to get goals really.

  • 38 toonarmydownsouth // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:57 PM

@30 no 1 is gonna convince me chelsea are gonna hold out @ the new camp no way, if they do can they beat real madrid? No can they beat bayern munich in the final @ the allianz arena? Hell no

  • 39 Toonaholic // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:57 PM

In my honest opinion going to spurs would be a step down for Pardew! We as a club, have a lot more going for us. are finances are great, and our first 11 man for man shades i reckon, only players i would have from spurs to come into our line up would be bale and walker, after that man for man we are way better! Add to that a great team spirit, and your have yourself a top top premier league side, which we are!

  • 40 yorkshireToon // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:59 PM

Buzzing with the result great performance from the lads! Can anyone tell me what time the game of the day is on Skysports wondering if I’ll make it home in time

  • 41 msk21dec // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:59 PM

GUYSSSS.. IF EVERTON LOSE OR DRAW TOMORROW WE ARE GUARANTEED EUROPE!! C’MON MAN UTDDDDD!

  • 42 JDdubai // Apr 21, 2012 at 6:59 PM

Once again we did this with 10 men, demba was again so bad. Passing bad when he could put others clear on a few occasions, finishing shocking, clearly lacking confidence so hopefully he sorts it out by the weekend.

Would love to see us with Hoilett as left attacker still, hopefully next season……

  • 43 Robby Bobson // Apr 21, 2012 at 7:00 PM

We are on this run without players 4 players (Best, Obertan, Saylor, Raylor) that were starting and got us in the top 3 in the first third of the season…thats more than a third of the team changing and we still winning.

  • 44 stephen1971 // Apr 21, 2012 at 7:00 PM

all these teams are class if you play their game , stoke, swansea etc but pardew has came up with a game plan in these games and we,ve hit them big time, look at swansea , did they have 80% of ball and never really looked like scoring (well one good shout), i love this team now, only thing i would of changed today at 3-0, i would of took BA off and gave ferguson 20 mins on the left

  • 45 Robby Bobson // Apr 21, 2012 at 7:00 PM

41msk…unless chelsea win CL of course

  • 46 magpie6699 // Apr 21, 2012 at 7:01 PM

Great performance and now we must be certain of Europa – we have to lose all 4 and Everton win all 5 to be caught for 6th place.
I thought everyone p[layed well – Benny’s play for the first goal was sublime and although he couldn’t quite match it in the 2nd half he actually did some useful back-covering. Santon and Willo had their best defensive games, Tiote was a beast and hit 2 scorching shots from 25-30 yards, Cisse keeps smiling and keeps us smiling with his goals, Colo oozed class as usual but missed a sitter when he had a clear header – and he knew it! MOTM of course was Yohan – 2 goals and a slide-rule pass for Rodney to score expertly.
We were never really under pressure and played some great stuff. Most comfortable win for a long time.
    PS Stoke were dreary.

  • 47 toonarmydownsouth // Apr 21, 2012 at 7:02 PM

Cant believe all the spuds fans are calling for redknapps head and are saying flog modric!!!! Funny how much ppls opinons can change in 10 games (is that about when the england/floppy chops rumour started?)

  • 48 SmileyFace // Apr 21, 2012 at 7:03 PM

    @JDdubai

Really? I thought Demba had a good game ! He played his usual, and when we went 2-3 up, he was given nearly every chance. I still believe he is low on confidence. The Demba of the first half of the season would have headered that ball into the back of the net, you just wait ! Regardless of whether he scores again or not, if it wasn’t for him, we would not be where we are. And his contribution after a pre season etc etc in a new season of european football will be second to none.

Do not doubt the guy, or say he had a bad game, when it’s fully unjustified.

  • 49 Robby Bobson // Apr 21, 2012 at 7:03 PM

that 5-0 loss to spurs has been crazy for both teams….if the season started then, we’d be third and spurs would be 19th!

  • 51 magpie6699 // Apr 21, 2012 at 7:05 PM

Didnt see Spewlis’s comments till now – pathetic! Outclassed them completely- would love to know the “shots on / off” stats. Think Timmy made one good save and their keeper about 4? Plus – was Cisse really offside when Ba’s shot was spilled by the keeper? Will have to watch that one closely tonight.

  • 52 Spuggy // Apr 21, 2012 at 7:06 PM

Demba had a good game, gave their defence plenty to worry about. He’s close to another goal.

  • 53 magpie6699 // Apr 21, 2012 at 7:06 PM

SmileyFace – agree – I thought Demba worked hard, did some good stuff and could easily have scored with any luck at all.

tds – thanks for that. I can recall their keeper making great saves from Santon in the first half, Ba and Tiote (twice) in the second. Then there’s Colo’s miss and Cisse’s disallowed goal – to name but a few.

  • 66 SmileyFace // Apr 21, 2012 at 7:13 PM

Everyone needs a bit of luck every now and then, and Demba has HUGE quality, everyone knows it. People just get frustrated it’s like Spurs fans with their manager and their run at the moment.
Demba WILL come good again, even if he scores just one more this season, it’s still superb. Look at Torres and Chelsea, their fans have done nothing but support him though the torrid season, and some people have the cheek to put Ba down after his season.
    #Support

I have a sneaky feeling the way that this season has gone that two wins (wigan everton) a draw (chelsea) and a loss (citah) will be enough to see us to forth. I cant see spurs winning all their remaining games the way they are playing..and chelsea have very tough games too.

My head tells me that arsenal have enough quality and games against teams in safe positions to see us out to 3rd.
