Fabricio Coloccini Named In PFA Team Of The Year

11:38 pm, Sunday, April 22nd, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 47 Comments

As expected Robin van Persie’s last night (Sunday) earned the PFA Player of the Year award, but the really good news was that the Newcastle captain, Fab Coloccini,  was named in the PFA Team of the Year.

Fabricio Coloccini – named in PFA team of the year

Van Persie leads the Premier League goal scoring charts with 27 goals, but with Wayne Rooney’s two goals against Everton yesterday, the Manchester United striker is right behind the Dutchman with 26 goals, and then Aguero of Manchester City is on 22 and three players are on 16, including Newcastle’s Demba Ba.

Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker, who made his England debut under former manager Fabio Capello, took the Young Player award.

And both Walker and Van Persie were named in the PFA Team of the Year, which included four Manchester City players and players from only six clubs.

But the good news is that the Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini was named in central defense alongside Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, and the only real surprise is Everton’s  Leighton Baines at left back, although Baines has had an excellent season for Everton, and maybe he’s a better left back than Ashley Cole these days.

Perhaps those Argentine selectors will now sit up and take note, since our captain is a top center-back and the only Argentine to make the team, but there again we don’t really mind that he’s not playing for his country right now.

When Fab joined Newcastle in August of 2008 from Deportivo for just over £10M,  he said he thought he could become a top Premier League center-back.

And  after a rough first season, which saw Newcastle get relegated for the first time ever from the Premier League,  he has indeed proved he’s one of the best players in the best football league in the world.

Fab has turned out to be wonderful buy for the Magpies, and he’s been so loyal to Newcastle, and we’re just glad this player will be on Tyneside for the next four years.

Well done Fabricio – you are a credit to yourself, to Newcastle United and to Argentina.

PFA Team:

Hart (Man City)
Walker (Spurs), Coloccini (Newcastle), Kompany (Man City), Baines (Everton)
Silva (Man City), Parker (Spurs), Y Toure (Man City), Bale (Spurs)
Van Persie (Arsenal), Rooney (Man Utd)

Deserved! Jonas gave it away on twitter last week like.

Can’t argue with it really except I’d have Valencia in for Parker. Hart just pips Tim in my eyes

Does anyone know what the story is regarding our new kit? Is this season’s one, which I think is proper class, gone come the end of this season?

I know you always unveil next season’s home kit at the last home game of the season, but do we not see the design at this stage. Either way I’m still hoping to get my hands on one of this year’s ones when they’re knocked down, great shirt for great memories!

Pardews fist pump – nice post:

Scott Parker – 0 goals, 1 assist – candidate for player of the year.

Dreamboat – 5 goals, 9 assists, most tackles made in the league and most distance covered – completely overlooked.

It’s amazing how our players get overlooked – Cabaye has been world class for me. Even in the games he played deeper he did his job well hence the tackles. Now he is playing forward he is able to show his quality more. completely underated.

Why the hell are the player awards given out before the end of the season. If Cisse gets another 5 goals he deserves it!!!!

  • 8 JackButler // Apr 23, 2012 at 12:05 AM

Well done Scott Parker getting into the team of the year for doing feck all other than playing for the ‘Darling’s’ of the media

  • 9 JackButler // Apr 23, 2012 at 12:06 AM

Scoot Parker in the team of the year???

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

And Krul not even nominated for young player of the year

  • 10 out of toon // Apr 23, 2012 at 12:08 AM

i agree parker at times has been all class this season, but at times he hasn’t shown up at all and a player of the year contender cannot afford to do that… cabaye or valencia over him anyday… defo cabaye for next season if he turns in regular games like saturdays effort. SUPREME.

Great for Colo. He’s a grafter, a defensive rock and off the ball work is epic. Deserved. Should be playing regular internationals soon.

i think niafron mentioned in an earlier post the parallels between nufc and napoli – good little read. i then spent some time browsing serie a info – the parallels between the epl table and the serie a table are uncanny. Two uncatchable runaway teams, a third place slowly being pulled back into a race with several teams eyeing the ucl group stage spot … good stuff (of course napoli in the mix for good measure)… just no inter to speak of in italy (woulda been nice – increase our chances of drawing a milanese team in the group stage of ucl and a sweet away leg!!!)

Another perfectly scripted weekend – although manure dropping points and leaving the door open slightly was ad-libbed for sure :)
Can’t wait to see the chelski and citeh defences shakin in their boots… mancini is already crappin

    Parker?…..
    Parker?

  • 12 TemuriKetsbaia // Apr 23, 2012 at 12:20 AM

I hope City beat United. It’s a one off derby game and all the pressure etc should go out of the window. City have shown themselves to be bottlers when they are in pole position and I expect them to be nervy at our place.

  • 13 mag1519 // Apr 23, 2012 at 12:21 AM

    @Spuggy

where are you getting those Cabaye stats from?

  • 14 Magpie_Man // Apr 23, 2012 at 12:28 AM

    @Ameobi and nufc_leazes end

Have you seen the football ones, pure genius, when he kicks it onto skateboard. Think we should sign him on free :D

  • 15 geordiejamie89 // Apr 23, 2012 at 2:08 AM

On MOTD yesterday, Lawro said that Newcastle have had no defensive worries all season where Man Utd have been without Vidic etc. We’ve been without Steven Taylor, no left footed left back. . . . I think Newcastle have had their fair share of injuries.

  • 16 karasu // Apr 23, 2012 at 3:01 AM

I know I shouldn’t be saying this as a Magpie, but if we are all but confirmed for Champions League by the time we visit Man City (penultimate game), we should roll over for City just for the lulz at the title summit. Would hate to see United winning the title.

  • 17 ROSHAN MAGPIE // Apr 23, 2012 at 4:49 AM

why is Lawro so much against us was he a former mackem player

  • 18 ~Perchinho the Pheonix~ // Apr 23, 2012 at 5:06 AM

    No defensive worries?

Where was he when Newcastle were forced to play 4 fullbacks in defence, when our 3 main center backs were out injured?

The difference between our defensive woes and United’s defensive woes (with the exception of the game were we had to use 4 fullbacks and no Cb’s) are that we can make up for our disadvantages with quality, not some over priced, over hyped tool that can’t handle the pressure.

Lawro needs to pull his ugly mug out his ass and stop shagging the preconceived top 4′s leg, like some overzealous puppy.

Not in the best of mood’s today.

  • 19 redondo77 // Apr 23, 2012 at 5:18 AM

Parker getting picked is because he is english and they need at least 1 in midfield.

Stoke game, I think Santon did a wonderful job, there will be a Maldini playing in NUFC. We don’t need another LB or left footed LB. Ba is different from last game, he is much better person and gave better team performance.

    CHAMPIONS LEAGUE HERE WE COME!!!!

  • 20 redondo77 // Apr 23, 2012 at 5:29 AM

who needs left footed LB if you have 20yr old Maldini?
We definitely need CB not another LB or RB, we got so many good players on that positions. Perch, Santon, Simpson, Raylor, Tav, Fergie, that’s 3 players each position not including Jonas who can play both RB/LB.
We only need CB and LW because Marveaux is injury prone, maybe DM when Tiote is leaving for ACN. I hope we only buy players for those 3 positions and a lot of good quality youngsters, so we can give more chances to Tav, Fergie, Streete, Vuckic, Sammy, Abeid.

  • 21 redondo77 // Apr 23, 2012 at 5:51 AM

Btw is Samuel Adjei any good?

  • 22 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Apr 23, 2012 at 5:53 AM

van Persie is a TIT !

While he may be worth his PFA Player of the Year award with his goalscoring his general Attitude and Sportsmanship has for me a big Question Mark hanging over It !

A lot of my Dutch Mates across here while acknowledging that he is a good player actually loath and hate him !

His Glitch against Krul the other month did,nt go un-noticed and his refused handshake when they lost to Wigan !

This all seems to be forgotton with the comments above!
One thing is definite though is that Colliccini is one of our Unmissable signings in the last few years, and is the ROCK on which our defense is built together with Krul ! He and Krul are worth any Plaudits that they get!

van Persie is a good player okay but just has NO CLASS and is not as good a Proffessional as some of the other sttrikers in the League! Bad Loser! A lot of ppl across her are expecting him to be at another club by this time next year!

    His Attitude and Mentallity Suck!

  • 23 redondo77 // Apr 23, 2012 at 6:16 AM

How many NUFC players will be in England squad?

  • 24 swoopingmagpie // Apr 23, 2012 at 6:44 AM

the best player pound for pound in the premiership is ben arfa. anyone who can’t see that is totally biased

  • 25 redondo77 // Apr 23, 2012 at 7:15 AM

Danny Simpson deserves to be in England squad, probably also Perch or Raylor.

  • 26 Indian Magpie // Apr 23, 2012 at 7:22 AM

how many trees has gareth bale pulled up this season, he has just ben average, HBA in last couple of months has done more than he has done in the whole season.

  • 27 Indian Magpie // Apr 23, 2012 at 7:23 AM

    swoopingmagpie

People here who are alleged NUFC fans said that HBA was not good enough to lace david silva’s boots

  • 28 Indian Magpie // Apr 23, 2012 at 7:26 AM

Wayne rooney thanks to dodgy penalties has got i think 5 more goals than he deserves

  • 29 redondo77 // Apr 23, 2012 at 7:29 AM

    Guys

Man City has 4 players and Crappy Spurs has 3 players.
Man Utd only has Rooney? It just shows you that it is crap.

  • 30 redondo77 // Apr 23, 2012 at 7:31 AM

Spurs players that deserve to be in that list are Modric & Friedel

  • 31 Indian Magpie // Apr 23, 2012 at 7:37 AM

baines at left back? i dont like evra but baines???????????

  • 32 redondo77 // Apr 23, 2012 at 7:38 AM

MCity should be Gareth Barry and Kholarov

  • 33 ~Perchinho the Pheonix~ // Apr 23, 2012 at 7:50 AM

I honestly think Krul has been far more superior to Hart in terms of shot stopping and saves. The difference is that City have a far superior back 4 then newcastle do, thanks to their stupid amount of cash at their disposal.

How many times has Krul rescued Newcastle with World Class saves? Hart is a talented goalkeeper but i feel he is overrated. I’d love to see how he coped in a team that did not include 4 World class defenders in front of him.

  • 34 dmac // Apr 23, 2012 at 7:52 AM

Baines is a top draw defender! Like colo im happy someone from outside manchester got picked! The team is a joke but hey at least colo gets a mention for his outstanding effort.

Isnt player of the year voted for by players? If so how the hell did RVP win? I actually think he is more of a bell end than bibotelli. I can guarentee timmy didnt vote for him haha.

  • 35 ~Perchinho the Pheonix~ // Apr 23, 2012 at 7:52 AM

    @Indian Magpie.

Evra has been abysmal in many games. Caught out of position on plenty of occasions. His attacking threat has also dropped in standards in comparison to previous season’s. I’d rate him below assou ekotta in terms of overall performances.

  • 36 Indian Magpie // Apr 23, 2012 at 8:00 AM

Okay fIne Perchinho, i wrote evra bcoz no one came to my mind, but baines is okay

  • 37 ~Perchinho the Pheonix~ // Apr 23, 2012 at 8:02 AM

Robin Van Persie is an absolute d!ck in terms of personality and attitude, but you can’t deny that he pretty much single handedly saved Arsenal’s season with his impressive goal scoring ability this season.

More then 1 third of Arsenal’s goals have come from Van Persie and he is also 5th in the assist’s table with 10.

Arsenal have scored 67 goals so far this season.
Van persie scored 27 of them and assisted 10 other goals. In total he has played apart in 37 out of the 67 goals that they have scored this season.

It’s only natural that someone who has so impressively influenced a team win the Player of the year award.

The award is for best player, not best attitude. Even though I hate him, there is no doubt in my mind that he deserved the award.

  • 38 keeleytoon // Apr 23, 2012 at 8:05 AM

@ perchino. Think hart was on loan to Birmingham couple seasons ago, that’s how he established him self more, had a brilliant season there mate so I think he could cope quite well, but I agree i think krul has been better this year.

  • 39 keeleytoon // Apr 23, 2012 at 8:14 AM

Just seen sigurdson has been priced at 10m by hoffienhiem would you guys still take him for that?

  • 40 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Apr 23, 2012 at 8:14 AM

    @37:

Totally agree with you about van Persie!

He has,nt made himself popular with his latest unsporting behaviour!

The Dutch word for something like him is :

” EIKEL “! Basically used the same way or in the same context as “W…….K……R”!

I,ll leave you to fill in the missing letters!

  • 41 Garreth // Apr 23, 2012 at 8:22 AM

As much as I love Krul and think he has been absolutely outstanding for us, I can’t really say Hart doesn’t deserve it. It could have gone either way, but at least Hart isn’t a stupid choice like some of the other players in the squad.

Scott Parker has done nothing for a lot of the season, he’s had a few good games.

David Silva had an incredible first half to the season, but where has he been since February? He’s done pretty much nothing and not really been noticed at all.

I echo the view that they should do this at the end of the season, when they know all the stats. Nominations are made in January, how can this be right??

  • 42 Garreth // Apr 23, 2012 at 8:25 AM

Keeley #39: Definitely not. That’s a big price to pay when you look at how much we paid for the rest of our squad, and he’s really not proven himself enough yet.

He looks good this season but he was on the bench in Germany and let’s not forget about Carroll who looked great in his first PL season…

  • 43 keeleytoon // Apr 23, 2012 at 8:26 AM

Very good post Gareth, couldn’t agree more, I think cabbage deserves it more then Parker. Not being biased, but there are a few others I would name too, I didn’t know they based it on stats from first half the season either? Seems a bit unfair! But at least colo’s there must have caught a huge eye this season. Been outstanding in 95% of games! Howay the lads! Enjoying this season to the last bone no matter where we finish! True black and white :)

  • 44 keeleytoon // Apr 23, 2012 at 8:28 AM

Yeah tell me about I don’t think I would pay that either, or want him for that, I’m sure there’s other we can get for cheaper or maybe even better. I’m happy with our squad, I think our spirit and determination has really proves this season, I remember all the doubts after our big thrashes, looking back kinda makes me laugh, at least the team never broke and kept going. I mean look at yids….. They’re falling like quicksand!

  • 45 Solaidback // Apr 23, 2012 at 8:42 AM

I think you’ll find its called Team of the YEAR for a reason, not Team of the season… it picked in Jan because they take last years stats to decide who was the player of 2011… next years will be player of 2012 & it’ll be a totally different story as to who gets picked… especially with us finishing so high this season & hopefully carrying it into next season..

We’ll have Krul, Colo, Cabaye, Cisse, HBA etc etc in the team too as this year so far they’ve all been awesome… :)

  • 46 keeleytoon // Apr 23, 2012 at 8:56 AM

Ah makes sense think my logic went out the window for a bit

  • 47 Crawfordladd17 // Apr 23, 2012 at 4:01 PM

Shocker Mr Overated or known as “Joe Hart” is keeper, but he plays for the best team in the league, he has conceded some pish goals, “some say best keeper in the world, not even top 5″
