Newcastle Interested In Leeds United Midfielder

8:29 am, Sunday, April 22nd, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 10 Comments

It’s a sunny morning in Raleigh, NC, and yet the sun hasn’t even come up yet at 3:30 am  in the morning.

Aidan White – in action for Leeds

But that’s how things feel today,  after Newcastle extended their winning streak to six games yesterday, with a rather comfortable 3-0 win against Stoke City at St. James’ Park yesterday.

And Newcastle have been linked today with Leeds United’s young left sided midfield  player, Aiden White,  and the news is in the Sunday Mirror.

The youngster was born in Leeds,  and has played for the England U19 side and also the Ireland U21 side, and the news is that both Newcastle and Bolton Wanderers are interested in the player.

Aidy can play at left back or left midfield and he is highly regarded at Leeds, who are trying to get him to sign a new deal to stay at his home town club.

White is 20 years old, and has only just held a second round of  contract talks last week with Leeds manager Neil Warnock, after he rejected their last offer in late December.

This is what Warnock said today:

“Hopefully, Aidy will give us his decision some time next week.”

White’s contract runs out in the summer and he will then be a free agent, but Leeds are due some compensation for the player, because he is under 24 years old and they have developed the player in their Youth Academy, and the fee is expected to be around £1.5M.

The 5’9″ youngster has played 65 times for Leeds United and while on loan at Oldham last season he played 24 times with four goals.

Aidan White seems  just the type of player Newcastle want to recruit into their ranks, so we suppose the next step is for White to decide if he wants to stay at Leeds.

But even if he signs on again at his home town club, Newcastle could still make an offer for him over the summer.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Havent seen him play but I reckon he’ll be one for the development squad…who’d get a run in the carling and early stages of the FA cup…could be a none starter

after seeing his goal yesterday on MOTD, i think Junior Hoilett would be the ideal player to play on the left of our 3 man attack , we would scare any team in the premiership with him Cisse and HBA ..

If atsenal are being linked left right n center with every CB in the world would any1 put a cheeky bid in for koscielny? Looks great a player this season and also maybe kalou on a free?

From a chat I’ve had with someone at the club our recruitment drive for the youth set up has been put on the back burner. Instead we are trying to buy the best 19/20 year old’s who will go straight into the reserves. Essentially we are looking at rearing the next Tiote before he played at Twente, if you get my drift. The likes of Butterfield at Barnsley and White at Leeds are examples of the free young players we will be able to get, put in the reserves (maybe even loan out) and bring into the first team within 18months. Carr is heavily involved in this process and not surprisingly they are targeting the continent with France, Holland, Germany and now Belgium high on the agenda. Now on to my opinion – which is purely my own speculation. I think we may see a player go in the summer if we qualify for UCL or not. I think it’ll be Krul or Tiote, but the money that we get will go straight into the recruitment of these types of players.
I think Douglas, Debuchy and Pieters are three distinct possibilities – and i think there could be a striker who comes in too – lets not forget the first team will be losing a few this summer – Alan Smith, Peter Lovenkrands, Tamas Kadar, Phil Airey, Ryan Donaldson, Soderberg, Forster, Adjei. Also, the likes of Harper, Best, Simpson and Obertan could all be moved on too.

What do I think, Ed? I think you should get more sleep – that’s what I think!

Exactly what I thought when I read this article mate. What’s the point unless he’s to boost our reserves and can’t see that happening at all.

    Non-starter for me.

Fergie is better than this lad. Sign Hoilett instead he’s perfect for 4-3-3.

Why do alot of people want us to sign Kalou !! I think he’s an awful player – he doesn’t offer much at all in my opinion

Ferguson is better and Hoilett is perfect but if he’s at the right price and he has the right attitude you can never have too much young talent. If he wants to come then just let him know he won’t be a starter but he can get some minutes.
