Are Newcastle After Two Players At Lille?

Alan Pardew has been seen at a lot of Lille games this season, so we wonder just who exactly he is scouting at the French Champions.

Aurélien Chedjou – Lille center-back – are Newcastle interested?

Earlier this month Joe Cole, who is on loan at Lille from Liverpool, said that Alan Pardew has been seen around six times at Lille games this season.

Eden Hazard is a star player at Lille,  but Newcastle would not pay the fee for him, and they prefer to recruit players who are younger,  but can turn into top players like 21 year-old Eden, the Belgium International.

The conventional wisdom is that Newcastle have been watching right back Mathieu Debuchy, one of Yohan Cabaye’s best friends, and it seems he is an accomplished player,  and could do a job for Newcastle in the back four.

Newcastle will be improving their defense this summer,  with as many as three defenders coming into the ranks, and we think Debuchy could come in whether or not Danny Simpson leaves the club in the summer.

Young Davide Santon is now coming through very well at Newcastle,  and we would expect Davide to be a starter in one of the full back positions next season, as he can play either side equally well.

But with Pardew being at Lille games so often this season, maybe Newcastle are looking at other players than Mathieu, and one player who could interested them is 26 year-old center-back Aurelien Chedjou, their 6’1″ center-back,  who also plays for Cameroon.

The right footed center-back has played 33 times with four goals for Lille this season, and since joining them from Rouen in 2007, he has played a total of 155 times with 11 goals for the current French Champions.

He stands 6’1″ tall and turns 27 in June, so he is probably on the border-line as far as his age goes, as Newcastle usually want to sign younger players.   He has played 9 times for Cameroon, since making his debut back in 2009.

There have been reports that Newcastle are interested in Douglas of FC Twente and Jan Vertonghen of Ajax, but they are also said to be checking on other center-backs too, and we think Chedjou could be one of them.

And if West Ham don’t get promoted back to the Premier League this season,  and we’ll know by Saturday afternoon, Newcastle could go after James Tomkins, who has had an excellent season at West Ham,  and was recently named in the PFA Championship team for this season.

When we’ve watched James this year, he has generally played in defensive midfield and he’s looked a good solid player, can tackle well, good in the air, and he always seems to play the safe easy ball.

We watched West Hams’ 2-1 win over Leicester last night,  and he was back playing at center-back, but don’t be surprised if  Newcastle renew their interest in the player,  if West Ham are not in the Premier League next season.

What do you think?

”He is a full international player though”

I could get a game for St Kitts and Nevis.

”…you stated that Simmo clearing balls of the line was down to luck of his positioning”

No I never. I said he had poor positional sense for a RB and that there was an elemant of luck to his goal line clearences.

”I stated that Simmo should get the recognition of our fans and not be called lucky”

I never called him lucky, just the clearences. I have from day 1 recognised Simmo as a decent player who we should retain if given the opportunity. If we can make a few bob then I wouldnt be sad to see him go. He is decent and done a good job, that is a fact, IMOwe could do better, that is an opinion.

Get your facts right to back up the stats that make my opinion wrong.

chedjou will be 27 in the summer and is a Cameroon international so will be away at the next nation’s cup so doubt we are seriously pursuing him .

We might well not know whether WHU are back in the Premier League, if they finish in the playoff places, as is most likely. Personally, I’m not sure about James Tomkins – cant see us getting another bargain, anyway

Ben3Arfa…Sounds about right. I think we’ll be looking at younger CB’s with room to grow at the club

Its Hazard blatently since CL is all but in the bag we have upped our targets and Hazard fits the bill totally him Gotze or Erikson one of these 3 will be in toon colours next season

Hehe maybe not eh! Am not fancying these defenders though seem to be out of our age range and both would be on their African adventures during a important time next season

WWJBD….Bench warmers? You mean take Perchinho’s utility sub spot? You’re having a laugh. They would fit in to the “young with room to improve” (I.e. the reserves) category!

lol. In all seriousness though, if our youth scouting team works as well as I think it might, it’s going to be one hell of a reserve team.

Sorry i know this is off topic, but if Demba goes to PSG does anyone else think we’ll go back in for Maiga and play him in the same role as ben arfa but on the left. they say he’s a winger/striker anyway?

    anyone else feeling this?

I think Douglas would be a good choice for a CB. Not at all convinced with Williamson would get rid of him immediately……he is useless. Would have Saylor as 3rd choice as he could be used in Europe and as cover for Colo and other.

alot of people me think its a logn shot but seriously i think pards has been watching hazzard myselfs if he was going to spend £10million on zaha he might as well try do some business with lille instead for a player higher rated with more quality and abit more experiece also weve done business with lille before and might get abit ofthe price knocked down maybe even a player put in their also but i could seee us pulling off some good and sprising signings this summer, especially with our current position and the way the team is playing were a very big club and back in top flight fighting for champions league weve beat the top team in the league this year and if we play like that every game who knows where we could be going but i say the future looks bright on tyneside also with more fee’s availible from sponsership few fringe players leaving money from finishing higher in the league and maybe ashley hoys in few more million for good measure why cant we get hazard? especially if we sign vertonghen both belgian?
