We’ve been very surprised this season at just how good Alan Pardew’s man management skills have been.
Alan Pardew – similar skills to the great Bobby Robson
Alan Pardew has managed to get the very best out of his squad this season, and existing players like Ryan Taylor, Danny Guthrie, James Perch and Tim Krul, among others, have thrived under Alan’s management at Newcastle.
It could be that the squad Newcastle have now is so much better than we thought at the beginning of the season, and that’s just one reason we are hoping we can keep players like Danny Guthrie and Danny Simpson at the club this summer.
If we can keep all of our good players, and bring in another four or five top players over the summer, the squad will be so much better next season.
John Carver today compares Alan Pardew’s skills with those of the great Bobby Robson, and the club will unveil a bronze statue of Bobby before the Manchester City game on 6th May, which seem so very fitting for a man who lived and breathed Newcastle United.
Carver had this to say today about the current Newcastle manager:
“What the manager has done is press all of the right buttons to get the best out of all the individuals.” “That is a fine art. It’s a man-management skill.”
“That’s something Sir Bob had.” “The gaffer has come here and he knows what makes people tick.” “You can cast your mind back to when we lost Joey and Kevin.”
“Then we talked about how some of the other players had stepped up, because they might not have felt intimidated by others.” “They felt welcome and part of it here.”
“And because of that they excelled.” “Every single player at the football club has played a part.” “Usually when you do well it’s a group of 14 to 16 players.”
“But let me tell you every single player that we’ve got on our books has contributed to the position we are in now.” “That’s remarkable.”
“We’ve picked up one or two injuries but the guys who have stepped in have held their own and they’ve stayed as a team because of how they have performed.”
And to think some Newcastle fans last summer were worried about Newcastle possibly being relegated, after we had lost Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan, Jose Enrique and Joey Barton last year, by the time September rolled around.
This has been water-shed season for Newcastle, but it’s not over yet, and the lads have to concentrate on how they can win the last four games of the season, and then we can really celebrate over the summer.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #41Jimmy – Maybe Harvey should have a statue as well, need to chill out a bit , try to look at the positive in things eh, Bobby Robson is current and means a lot to the majority of fans now in the ground, he is in many people eyes a Toon legend, but in my eyes more of a local hero, who went on to represent this region all over the world in a respectful and dignified fashion, the statue is a good tribute to the man, end of story.

Comment #45First point I think there should be a statue of Jimmy erected at the Stadium of Shite. You sir are a bit of a cock. Instead of saying ‘Yes, Sir Booby was a legend, a toon fan from birth to death and a nicer man you couldnt meet. A local man who revoloutionised the modern game, not only in his own country, but throughout the World. He fully deserves the statue despite only being manager for 6 years, and I hope further statues of Geordie legends can be built.’, you more or less say he doesnt deserve it. Never again will I read your posts.
Second point:
DR. ED HARRISON
I love your blog. It is fascinating, fun and the best place on the web to discuss NUFC with like-minded toon fans in an open forum. I can spend hours and hours discussing complete nonesense and enjoy every minute but PLEASE stop the bloggers being re-directed to the LIFE EXPECTANCY web page. I know its not your fault but all that IBM experience must be handy to stop this. I know I can use chrome or firefox but I shouldnt have to in order to enjoy your blog. Thank you sir.
Point 3… Are all Jimmy’s cocks? Jimmyxavi and now jimmymagpie? Discuss

Comment #55Dmac – I’m not on any pedestal, just pointing out that that there are many more deserving causes. What about Stan Seymour Senior – another who gave a lifetime of service, won the cup and the league as a player, managed the club to 2 successive cup wins, and many years service as director and chairman. I apologise for having a sense of history about my club. I was a great admirer of Sir Bobby, and met him on may occasions, but he was a footballing legend long before he came to NUFC. I remember watching him play for Fulham and England in the 1950s and 60s,but he became a legend at Ipswich. If we are going to build statues to people who gave only 5 years service, didn’t win anything, but were nice blokes, we won’t be able to get near the ground for statues.Codearm – Shearer gave 10 years service, at a time when he could easily have been somewhere else winning things, even after he joined, and he is the club’s all time record goal scorer.

Comment #60Jimmy….I suppose there is “some” merit in what you say regarding Sir Bobbys input and other achievements. However, whether he made his name or accomplished more elsewhere the truth of it is he is in the eyes of most NUFC fans a club legend, which you state he is not. That is what I disagree with.
On Shearer, of course he is a legend. I was just trying to apply your logic to make a point – obviously unsuccessfully!
Once again, as I don’t want to come across as trying to start something with you, completely agree that there are other people also deserving of a statue, but Sir Bobby, in most peoples opinion does also and you shouldn’t try and take away from that

Comment #61Being modest, Sir Bobby himself would no doubt have
liked to see statues of at least some of the many NUFC
legends, even before his own.
That doesn’t mean that we should voice such opinions
at this special time of honouring at least one of them.

Comment #62Beattie – as usual showing yourself up to be a complete d-ckhead. i’ll take you on anytime on the great history of our football club. By the way, my own father was legend amongst the players and staff of this club in his day, and supported it for 87 years, was an extremely nice man, so i’ll expect to see his statue soon. I suppose I should feel sorry for you, because you’ve never seen this club win anything, and you have to get your legends where you can, I suppose. Say what you like, as i won’t be here to read it anymore today, so, in anticipation, F-CK YOU TOO!!

People are so inconsiderate these days aren’t they! I mean, I bet 99% of them don’t remember players from the 1920’s. How dare they call themselves fans?? Ridiculous.
You sir, need to calm down slightly. Most people 50 years old or over don’t know how to use a computer. Therefore, it’s reasonable to expect that te majority of people who comment on the blog, are 40 or less, with one or two exceptions I course. Which means the 70’s is probably gonna be the limit for even some of the oldest people on here.
Just think a bit, before you post, will you?

What about Peter McWilliam, Francis Hudspeth, Peter Beardsley etc…
There are hundreds of people deserving of a statue but bobby bridges the gap between old and young, he wasnt just a local hero, he wasnt just a national hero, he was an international hero.
The modern game owes a lot to Bobby and I suppose the dying bread of fans that think players wearing shin pads are sissies will fail to see why he deserves it.

Comment #75I think MA and his steamrollering PR machine have a right to plunge their cash into any worthy cause that makes them look good at the same time as appeasing a doting crowd. There could be better statue causes than SBR, but there could of course be worse, for example Al Fayed’s wonderful Wacko statue ….good grief…
Just accept the gesture and roll with it, no need to fall out over it.
