Newcastle To Win A Trophy Soon – Yes We Can

I had joked recently that I had written an article last summer predicting that Newcastle would be in the Champions League soon.

Shola Ameobi – talked last June about getting back into Champions League

That was purely meant as a joke, but one of our readers, Ty Hancocks, has just sent me an article I wrote on June 30th last year – where at least we talked about Newcastle getting back into the Champions League – since in the article that’s what a certain Shola Ameobi talked about.

It’s worth reading the article again, because it tells you where we all were last June, and for me it was just two weeks after my operation, and obviously at the end of the article I seem to be thinking of my own mortality.

That was a very dodgy time, and I was wondering aloud whether Newcastle could ever win anything soon, and break the streak of 43 years without winning a trophy,  back since we won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969 – a game I was at.

I read the article again this morning, and felt upbeat after reading it – so take another read – although I never say we would actually get into the Champions League – just that we had to get back there as soon as possible.

I know –  I’m not that good!

But it just shows you what a great job Alan Pardew, the Newcastle coaches and the Newcastle players have done this season, that we are indeed currently in 4th position in the league table.

And after the last home game against Manchester City on 6th May, I’m sure the fans at the game will pay their respects to the Newcastle coaches and players – whatever the result of that game  – because they deserve a rousing ovation for what they have achieved this season.

It’s all so amazing.

Repost from last thread. (damn you ed)
Arsenal will be feeling the pressure now all we have to do is score 12/13 goals against wigan and they’ll be right in the excrement.
I really think that this is the best team I’ve seen in my lifetime, the keegan days were great but we now have a perfect balance between defensive capabilities and attacking prowess.
I think we can go on to win ten in a row, if we go into the man city game on the back of 8 wins having conceded only 2-3 goals with a full house at st james we can win it. It’s unfortunate that they and Chelsea have hit form, but we hit form before them and we have that old cliched momentum. When we go to Chelsea their defense will be weakened and they’ll be no match for our attacking force, we may concede but we’ll score more than them. A win at stamford bridge will boost our confidence even further giving us the ability to go on and perform against Man City.
First things first though, Wigan on Saturday, a victory and another clean sheet. We can do it, yes we can.

Am I the only one that suspects if we finish 4th and Chelski win the CL Final it will be a ‘oh well, never mind’ but if Arsenal or Tottenham finish 4th it will be ‘We’ll appeal against this, we budgeted to finish 4th and therefore we demand our place at Europe’s top table’….they will then be granted entry via qualification.

vask why bother reposting. We read your drivel on the previous article 👿
Now then, a cup run next season is VERY much achievable imho.
    Long overdue too.
Would love to win something before i push up the daisies.

Ibiza, I totally accept that we could end up 5th or 6th, and I won’t be disappointed with that. I’ve had the feeling since the Liverpool game that we were going on a good run. I can’t claim to know that we’ll finish 3rd or that Arsenal won’t drop points or Spurs will overtake us. There’s just an atmosphere in the team that I can’t see emulated in any of the teams around us. The will to win is a powerful weapon and Pardew seems to instill this in the players. We have winners in our team and their experience is incredibly useful. Obviously the other teams around us have winners in them, probably more experienced at winning in England, but I do firmly believe that we have possibly the best chance to finish 3rd out of all the teams from 6th-3rd. But like I said, I won’t be too disappointed if we don’t.

I reposted it because when I posted it, I noticed a new article had been published. And as far as ‘drivvel’ goes, you are just as guilty as me, you maybe certain that we can’t do it and you may claim that as fact but I haven’t claimed my ‘drivvel’ as fact. Again we’re all working on ifs and buts so why attack an opinion that differs from your own? You have shown your true intellect in attacking mine.

Vask…Well we are the most in form team in the PL at the minute, that will certainly give us an edge, but you have to think the quality in the other teams will come good at some point….hopefully that point will be too late 🙂

    This was a year ago:

Anyone read up on the UEFA finance fair play rule?
NUFC will meet the requirements since they have decimated the wage bill and have a good matchday turnover.
And with the squad they currently have a 6th or 7th place isn’t impossible, Champion’s League could happen.

Maybe not this season, but next season is a possibility.

    This man a genius! Haha.

In all seriousness, it’s great to see us all proven wrong and us fighting to be up there, and I think we can get 10 points from our last 12. Will that be enough for 3rd? I hope so!

I would suggest Ed put’s in an “argument free since” counter on the site, but it’d never get past 1 day. Maybe a minute counter instead 🙂

Yeah, but cousto was envisaging us finishing 6th or 7th
but with higher placed teams being excluded due to the Fair Play rules.

The current situation, challenging for 4th/3rd, didn’t come into his thinking.

Ed (or anybody for that matter) can we find out what the fair play rules will mean exactly – to us and to the big spenders

I think we need shola back on the player montage at the top of this site. He has been vital to our campaign and is a 10 year vet. I love seeing his battering ram like runs through defenders also.
