Newcastle Have Been A Breath Of Fresh Air

8:35 am, Saturday, April 28th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 27 Comments

Newcastle have been the surprise team of the English Premier League this season.

Alan Pardew – has the players ready for Wigan today

And the Magpies started the season by going their first 11 games without defeat,  when we conceded just 8 goals, and the lads are ending the season on a good streak too, having won all of their last six games, and conceding only one goal and  scoring 13.

But in his press conference yesterday, Alan Pardew rightly said that we cannot just keep talking about the last few games, because it’s all about the next game, which is today at relegation fighting Wigan Athletic.

But Alan also rightly thinks that Newcastle have shaken up the Premier League this season:

“I think it’s been great for the Premier League that we’ve done this,” “It’s been absolutely brilliant, we’ve been a breath of fresh air.”

“People talk about Norwich and Swansea and the impact they’ve had and the way they play, which has been fabulous, but you can’t get away from the fact that we’ve shaken up this division.”

“We’ve shaken things up in the right manner, and we’ve done it by playing the right way. We’ve played a variety of different ways this year, and changed things when we’ve needed to.”

“But right now, we’re really playing with a lot of flair in the team. I think that sets us apart from most of the other teams in the division.”

“Before I came here, I wasn’t a Newcastle fan, but you always used to smile when you thought of Newcastle because of the flair players they’d had in the past.”

“This has always been a club that’s been synonymous with great football, and it’s great to be able to emulate some of that.”

The  Europa League football is already guaranteed, and Alan Pardew says there is no pressure on Newcastle, and the lads are just looking forward to the game today at Wigan, and the games , as far as the players go, cannot come quickly enough.

Newcastle will again have their best side out today, and it will be unchanged from the one that beat Stoke 3-0 last week, and Pardew as much as said that in his press conference.

The Newcastle manager said that maybe the only player missing, for it to be the very best team Newcastle can put out at the moment, is local lad Steven Taylor.

We are really impressed with the calm and straight forward way in which Alan Pardew is handling Newcastle this season, and at the moment.

It makes a mockery of our opinion last December, that he just wasn’t good enough for Newcastle.

But we are delighted with the way Alan has woven his magic on Tyneside, and we are very supportive of the Newcastle manager. :D

Newcastle United seem to be returning to the big time.

For the 4,500 who will be at Wigan today, have a fantastic day! Sing your hearts out for the lads!

We are doing it the “Newcastle” way IE exciting and that’s why we are getting the good press.

It is great that we know foundations are being laid that will put us in danger of winning a trophy soon and challenging for the foreseeable future.

The future is bright the future is orange?

Swansea and Norwich like Blackpool last year along with the Toon are destroying myths and long may it continue as it makes our league wonderful.

Optimistic stat for today, Stoke have won 3 of last 4 at home to Arsenal, all is not lost for 3rd folks,

Pardews done a great job, but my word does he like the sound of his own voice, hope hes not putting the mockers on things. Hes in danger of making us disliked with his little soundbites.

    WE ARE THE GEORDIES……

Check – he’s no worse and a damn sight better than a lot of managers. At least he always gives credit to the opposition, especially if we lose – unlike some recent examples I could name.

manager of the year can pretty much say what he wants eh?

reading between the lines he can’t f#%cking believe how well we’ve done this season and couldn’t give a toss what anybody thinks

  • 14 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Apr 28, 2012 at 9:12 AM

    @3:

Aissidi was reported in the Dutch press as having handed in a transfer request!

A team with HBA in it on one wing and this lad on the other side would be unstoppable!

Thing is though there are a host of other clubs after him! PSV are apparantly favourites! But the paper also said that he and his agent are keeping their options, “Open”!

  • 15 out of toon // Apr 28, 2012 at 9:14 AM

less than 6 hours to go…
10pm kickoff for me in Perth, Aus
Cannot wait – as excited as i’ve ever been for the toon… these are wonderful times to be a geordie and in under 8 hours they’ll have just gotten better

    4-0

prefer the humble approach myself, Guardiola over mourinho, Sir Bobby over Sir Alex, not a big arrogance fan, however as people have replied he is entitled to say what he wants as currently his team are flying, pride before a fall and all that.

There are many talents out there

  • 18 bills-son // Apr 28, 2012 at 9:19 AM

I can remember Pardew’s interviews after West Ham matches and I thought he talked alot of sense behind the smarmy manner that he had then. He has matured now and the sense is still there but without that smarmy smug manner.

Pardew is without a shadow of doubt in the top 4 managers in my 50 years supporting the Toon – Keegan first time, the great Sir Bobby and Fairs Cup winning Joe Harvey being the three others.

In Ashley, Llambias, Charnley, Pardew, Carver, Stone and Carr the Toon now – without a shadow of doubt – have THE BEST owner, management, coaching and scouting set-up in the past 50 years. When we strengthen the squad in the summer, together with the top talent already here, we will IMO have the best team ever – better than Keegans team of the 90s,

The Toon – and us fans – are really going places.

This is the management and team to finally win that first trophy in over 40 years. What a day that will be !!

    Billson fully agree

    He scores when he wants!!
    He scores when he wants!!
    Oh Papiss Cisse!!
    He scores when he wants!!

    1-3
Cisse, Ba(finally) and then our lil French Messi with goal 3
Too much technical ability for Wigan to stop us

  • 21 Lew Davies // Apr 28, 2012 at 9:43 AM

    100% agree Bills-son

People have been wanting information to come out of the club, and from the board. Well now we are getting that and still some moan.
    ffs make up ya minds.

  • 22 PUMMELLER // Apr 28, 2012 at 9:44 AM

    Bill-son
That is brilliantly wrote mate and couldn’t agree more!
We needed the relegation to rid us of the freeloaders.
Now we have the best team spirit I have seen at Newcaste in my 20+ years as a fan. And I too am excited at the prospect of just how special this team can be. This team being exactly who you have said : Ashley, Llambias, Charnley, Pardew, Carver, Stone and Carr and we are really going places!
I am so proud of our players already this year and trust in Colo to bring us home a trophy during his last years with us so he can retire a Geordie legend!

  • 24 geordiesteve520 // Apr 28, 2012 at 10:13 AM

The main reason I think we will win today is based on how well we take chances when presented to our players, a perfect example being Swansea, which along with Stoke is one of the best away performances i have ever witnessed from a Newcastle team (up there with the Arsenal match in 2001). I think our defence is a little too well drilled for Wigan to break down and (barring mistakes ala how Arsenal capitulated) we should keep another clean sheet. No doubt Wigan will be up for it and are (along with us) one of the form teams in the division and have a hell of a cause to fight for, but once again we do too! Big day people HWTL!

Bills-son, good post. I have always dreaded Ashleys next move and wish he would stick with St James name. What a well run club now. I think Pardew is the main man though – and makes Ashley see the vision. Does anyone know how we came to choose Pards? Were many interviewed, or is it true re the casino mates. Not that it matters, just curious. A great time to be a Toon fan.
