Shocking Show By Newcastle – Restore That Geordie Pride Quickly

5:25 pm, Saturday, April 28th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 21 Comments

It was an embarrassing display by Newcastle United today, a shocking display in fact,  and they were 4-0 down against 4th bottom Wigan Athletic at the half.

Victor Moses – after scoring second goal after 15 minutes today

While Newcastle improved a little after the break and Cisse hit the bar twice, it was an awful display by the Magpies, and there’s something about this team, that every now and again and right out of the blue – they simply collapse.

It happened at Bolton and at home to Arsenal last season, and it has happened this year at Tottenham, Fulham and now the DW Stadium.

We feel sorry most of all for the 4,500 Newcastle fans who made the trip to Wigan, and we think an apology from Alan Pardew and some of  the players for this insipid display is probably in order – it was really that bad.

But there again it’s just one game and maybe it was a ruse to make Chelsea over-confident on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.

But after winning 6 games in a row and conceding just one goal in that time, the wheels came off the Newcastle train today in that first 45 minutes.

All the players can do now is to regroup, and come out at Stamford  Bridge like the Wigan players came out today – and it was like their lives depended on winning the game.

This was not good enough by a long chalk by  Newcastle today – not good enough at all – and if this is over-confidence – we don’t want to see it ever again.

But the lads still have three games to make up for the capitulation today – and they have a game soon in which to do just that – at Chelsea on Wednesday night.

If Newcastle play at Stamford Bridge like we played today in that first half, we’ll be smashed by the Blues – and deserve to be smashed too.

We don’t mind Newcastle getting beat, but where’s the fight and the passion?

They were not at the races at all today, and Alan Pardew and the coaches will have to find out what was going on in the players’ heads in that first half.

It seems that every time Wigan attacked they would score – it was bad today – in fact it was shocking.

The chance to restore that Geordie pride is at Chelsea on Wednesday night – take that opportunity!

Ba, decent form at the start of the PL, but now absolutely rubbish, a pain to watch.

poor show from everyone – need to turn it round on Wednesday

Not Ba’s fault we lost today, but when you’re fighting for CL football, you can’t expect to carry anyone.

For me to improve next season we need to bring in top players to play the follwoing position:

CB -staylor had an outstanding start but still need the top class cover
RB simmo is average to poor prem rb
CM – jonas works his socks off and i like him but need another quality cm to take his place. Another cabaye please lol.
LW – BA does not cut it out on the left and need someone in the HBA mould that can beat people at will. Hoillet anyone?

Get these positions in then we would have a very strong team and squad.

Loverman and Best won’t play another game this season and Shola can’t last 45mins, so who do you propose we use instead of Ba?

  • 6 Tooooon // Apr 28, 2012 at 5:30 PM

Yeah, we definitely need to replace all those areas you’ve just highlighted Nufc-83

Ba’s 16 goals are one of the main reasons we are still in 4th

  • 9 Tooooon // Apr 28, 2012 at 5:31 PM

Wor Shearer; I’m sure Shola Ameobi could last a full game, and at the moment he’s a better less whiny option than Ba… if not go for Shane Ferguson.

Only Benny and Cisse looked like they could even be bothered today and even they were no where near their best.

I wouldn’t usually single out a player after a performance like that but Simpson, even after the first 10 minutes just really looked like he couldn’t be bothered to run.

Wigan picked up on that very quickly and attacked our right flank again and again. Set the tone really.

Very poor. MUST IMPROVE NEXT WEEK!!!!

Yeah ba has scored 16 goals, but he does not look interested!!!!

If he wants to wear the famous black and white stripes then he needs to play with a bit more passion!!! A would rather see Leon best up their instead of him ATM. Or even fertile. Or marveaux wen he’s fully fit.

it’s not rocket science, for some completely unfathomable reason, pardew changed a winning formula and formation.
second half we went back to how we should have started

Lets retore our toon fate by getting a good result against Chelsea

  • 19 beegee90 // Apr 28, 2012 at 5:51 PM

Yes we were awful and deserved to lose but come on Mike Dean was appalling. Clear 2 footed lunge in first half then in second half alcaraz cynical deliberate handball….any decent ref would have had wigan down to 9 men. Just follows on from not sending off Luiz in the Chelsea game.
