Chelsea 6-1 Win Brings Them Within A Point Of Newcastle

We suppose after beating Barcelona it’s what you would expect.

Fernando Torres – hat trick for Chelsea today

Chelsea smashed QPR at home today and were 1-0 up after 45 seconds through Daniel Sturridge , and 4-0 up after just 25 minutes, and ended up winning the game 6-1 after Cisse got a late goal for QPR.

Chelsea started this game like Wigan did yesterday – like a steam train – and they were just too much for QPR, who couldn’t handle the quick passing Blues,  who seem to be back to their best these days.

Fernando Torres also looked very good again, and his new found confidence saw him score a great hat-trick. and four goals in his last two games.

We hope he’s rested on Wednesday,  although that could mean Didier Drogba starts, so maybe not.

The win takes Chelsea to 61 points  and  just one point behind Newcastle,  but of course their goal difference is much better than Newcastle’s.

It will be a very tough game for Newcastle on Wednesday night, but one thing we can be sure of – Newcastle players will be ready for this game at Stamford Bridge, unlike yesterday.

Chelsea play the FA Cup just three days after the Newcastle game, but they have a much stronger squad than ours,  and the fringe players in the Chelsea team this afternoon all looked very good.

For QPR on the other hand,  the game was a disaster,  because with Wigan beating Newcastle 4-0 yesterday, that’s a 9 goal swing in their goal differences, and that could decide which team gets relegated this season.

QPR remain 4th bottom of the league and level on points with Bolton, but the London side have a better goal difference, but Bolton also have a game in hand.

It will be a good test for Newcastle on Wednesday evening, and that’s how they should take the game – as a test of just how good we  are against a Chelsea side good enough to get to the final of the Champions League.

If Newcastle can stay close to Chelsea, the London club have conceded more goals than any other club this season in the last 15 minutes of their games, so we could maybe nick it at the end – maybe.

Tottenham take on Blackburn at White Hart Lane next, so let’s hope Rovers are in better form than QPR were today – Spurs are currently 3 points behind the Magpies and a win will take them above Newcastle.

Think that makes Chelsea just below us, oh well that must make us slight favorites, wud be the greatest ever victory in my lifetime of supporting Toon if we amazingly turned them over on wednesday. I am nearly 40 by the way.

even if we do loose to them i still don’t class that as the end with our hopes of a top 4 because they still have liverpool away so could loose to them so as long as we can stay above spurs then i still look at CL being possible. At the end of the day mind i don’t care where we finish because we are in europe any way.

Arg it’s gonna be a test alright! But like I said earlier, we should all be proud of the lads this season, whatever happens in the last 3 games.

A win on Wednesday and the Wigan game will be forgotten. A draw would be fine, we’ve got such a tough run-in but we’ve beaten good teams this season so there’s no reason why we can’t get a result vs Chesea or City. Or Everton for that matter. Just don’t concede early!

I think we need to drop some players for this game to stand a chance.

I’d bring in Perchinho for Willo, Guthrie for Guti and Ober/Marv/Frrgie for Ba.

It’s got to be 4-5-1 and as much as it pains me to say this, Simmo has to play as he is less a liability than Willo IMO.

The Chelsea players will be wanting to parlay their way into contention to start the CL final so whomever RDM picks will have intensity.

We need to go there and fight, scrap and disrupt their game. It’s not going I be pretty but we can get a result.

I don’t think Pardew will change anything though and that is a niggling concern for me this season. I hope with added competition next season Pards will be more open to dropping under achievers.

That 4th spot is looking well out of reach all the teams we face are starting to hit top form and that mauling Wigan give us was a real showing up Its Spurs up next and they won’t fail against blackburn so 6th is looking good for us!

santon yesterday was leaving going forward too much that left colo having to cope with both helping willo and play out wide. also if you wanting jonas dropped then it could become a nightmare for colo.
willo might be rubbish but we have to put up with him.
simson does not go forward much but that is because HBA likes playing aggressively and willo just won’t be able to stop crosses coming in.

beattie if there is one thing i am not, that thing is a mad head.
mad heads only come on when we loose me i am happy with us finishing 6th mad heads pick easy targets like shola willo and simpson.

if people are that desperate for 4th place then i would say just shut up talking about it so they don’t get the added pressure of having it expected.
newcastles race for a top 4 is the equivilent to cities race for the title and the more pressure that is given the harder it will feel for the players to achieve what we want so i would say now lets just wait until the season ends.

toonking, were has santon gone from your team, i wud pick likewise but santon for perch and perch for simpson,

Beattie – willo had a bad game yesterday however has improved recently, we need his height at set pieces against chelsea, he is undroppable unfortunately. I take it you have had an extra large portion of angry pie for lunch, you cant really imply you wud have Nolan back and then not expect a response, you have acted as provocateur and then spat the dummy when people have spoke sense,
Anger management classes cancelled last week or something, you can make a decent point without name calling and being confrontational, it is possible you know, is c0ckhead your new favorite word.

    check
not that i want to be unkind to him, i didn’t want to put put santon in the team at all is down to the need to play willo, he needs as much help from colo as he can which leaves the wide men having to do the work out wide.
know how often santon goes forward the worse thing you want is him playing RB, HBA rarely gets back at all so if santon is not around for the crosses then it will be so easy for players to come in for an attempt on a goal as willo will be the player he tries to beat which won’t be that hard

yesterday was possibly the awakening we needed! 2 weeks ago we were taking each game at a time and if we made europe it was a bonus but this week we’ve been aiming for 3rd!

If were going to carrying on improving in the league aswel as have a run in europe we need to sign quality to add depth!

    Hoilett. 5mil comp
    Sigursson. 10mil?
    Douglas 7mil
    Jay rodriguez. 5mil

All would add quality to depth and all would have big potential sell on fees!

Toonking – not a ad team but I would take out Simpson NOT Santon. Simpson’s heart doesn’t seem to be here anymore, it’s like Jose Enrique all over again. We need to replace him until he shows he is committed again.

If we win I think we’ll finish 4th for the season.

Blackburn are sh1t and Hoilett is a you tube footballer, he is a runner and shooter, not a technical footballer, if we are going to play a decent brand of football we need players who can pass and move, hoilett is a spontaneous type player, just decides to do something and sometimes it comes off, for me moses is a better player technically, and im sure there are loads abroad that are also better.

Looking forward to the summer recruitment, seeing marveuax back and also seeing if we can finish above scumpool again next year, the only difference being our football being much better.

1st team players at club who can play gud passing footballand should not be sold unless of ridiculous bid include – Krul?, Collo, Santon, Tiote, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Cisse, and Guthrie. The guthrie thing amazes me, if the lad was on a free for any other PL club we would think he wud be a great signing, cant understand why the club wont give him what hes worth, (unless they are concerned about his fragile body)

We’re probably going to finish sixth tbh.
We are still a work in progress and do need to strengthen in various positions.
This is a realistic assessment not a negative one.
We do not have the strength in depth to rival Chelski or as good a side as Spuds – their drop in form has been down to floppychops wobbling over the England job and taking his eye off the league. They’ll be nowhere next season as they are going to lose some good players and their manager.
Chelski are going to have to get rid of the 30+year olds bossing their dressing room pretty soon too AVB was just ahead of his time there.
Even if the bindippers manage to resurrect their team they have a huge number of underachievers and a really average managerial team.
So we’ll still be on the up for a few years to come and should be contenders for CL every season.

If we get 4th or 5th this year it’ll be down to some seriously fantastic football the next three games. If the silver fox can get the team performing at their absolute pinnacle we could win all three and make 4th, but if we miss it – it’s still been a much better season than most of us imagined….Only Niafron really thought we could make fourth back in October.

If 6th is about where we are then the players we’ll need for Europe will include some EPL lower level team star players like Hoilett, Sigurrsson etc., but as every manager in the league will have clocked them they’ll be seduced by bigger wages than we can pay so I doubt if we’ll get more than one or two max from the various UK leagues- probably promising Championship players not EPL. We’ll pick up three maybe four players from the various European options most of which we’ll not have heard of or have on our wish lists.

A year ago AP said we’d not see European football at SJP for maybe two years, so we are already at least a year ahead of the master plan. If AP can get 49% win as he has averaged throughout his managerial career then we’ll be CL material for the forseeable future and some real good times ahead….
