News in the Sunday Mirror today that Newcastle are ready to sign Manchester United youngster Ezekiel Fryers.
Ezekiel Fryers – Newcastle interested in 19 year-old defender
The 19 year-old can play center-back or left back, and he has already appeared six times for the Manchester United first team.
The 6′ tall younger was born and bred in Manchester and United is the only club he’s played for.
Fryers suffered a serious knee injury last season that kept him out for the whole season, but the lad came back and made his debut in the League Cup in September of last year.
The Mirror is reporting that he has been unable to agree a new deal with Manchester, and that was not unlike the case of Ravel Morrison, whom Newcastle were interested in last January, but the Magpies eventually pulled out of the deal, and he was signed by West Ham.
Ezekial’s contract runs out on June 30th, and Newcastle are hopping to sign the player, but they will need to pay some compensation to Manchester United for the youngster, since he is under 24.
Fryers has played for the England U16, U17 and 10 times for the U19 team, and he is the type of player Newcastle are always looking for, who could be brought to Tyneside, and his skills developed at Newcastle.
This is how the lad is described on the Manchester United web-site:
“Zeki Fryers is a tall and athletic left-sided full-back, strong defensively but also – as with most modern full-backs – likes to get forward and help out in attack. He has pace in abundance and is tough in the tackle. His first season as an Academy scholar was disrupted by injury, but he finished the season strongly and will look to exert his experience during his second season with the Under-18s.”
“Zeki, who has been capped at England youth level, has also stepped up to United’s Reserves, and will look to really make his mark at this level in 2011/2012 after more injury problems last term. At the start of the campaign, he figured in both Warren Joyce’s side and Paul McGuinness’ academy outfit as an over-aged player before pulling off something of a coup by featuring in a third of the club’s teams and the one he will have dreamed about as a youngster.”
“The Carling Cup debut at Leeds, playing in the middle of defence, was a baptism of fire that he handled expertly with a flawless display at Elland Road. Another outing, this time at left-back against Aldershot, was followed by a late Champions League appearance in the win over Otelul Galati.”
We’ll see if this effort by Newcastle comes to fruition, but we do expect Newcastle to bring in a number of top youngsters in the summer.
Comments welcome.

Comment #4Just think abt United 1st team signings of quality Defenders, whom can play across all back position. As a promissing youth, you might need to wait for a chance ever to perform n show but at some other teams you might be able to try 1st team football faster.

Comment #9young, fast and versatile with a good pedigree and Man Utd’s desperate to keep him. But I heard it’s not an issue of wages… more that he wants more first team chances which they can’t guarantee him. Personally I think he would be in amongst the first team squad straight away here. Get the lad signed up. Very promising young player.

Comment #12Just been watching Lille vs PSG and Eden Hazard has just done the most outrageous piece of skill to set up Lille’s second goal. Think its called a rabona. The lad looks class. Would improve any team in the world in my opinion. Maybe Cabaye can sweet talk him into coming to the toon, then Pardew can beg big mike to free up the funds… I’ll stop dreaming now..

Comment #13just went back a few posts and saw people saying pardews tactics were messed up against wigan…
first of all some of you said we were play 4-2-3-1 for the last 6 games (before wigan) well thats not true we only played that against more attacking teams (liverpool swansea)
but the thing that got me was that some people said why did pardew change the formation
and others were complaining about that he did change it…
When we went in, we had our usual 4-3-3 against weaker teams. The problem was wigan wearnt the wounded horse we were expecting. we should of played 4-2-3-1 against them but we didnt realise until about 14mins in how attacking they would be. when we were 2-0 AP saw we had to change to make sure we didnt get drubbed. he changed it to a 3-4-3 becuase that was our most attacking option and wigan are very weak defensively the only problem was cabaye couldnt pass for the life of him and ba’s first touch was awful. all in all the tactics were normal tactics you would apply only unluckily for AP our players didnt show up.
Every manager losses games no matter how good ur tactics are. Every manager miss reads and underestimates opponents to blame pardew for yesterday would be stupid. You cant point fingers at one person/player… other wise we could also it was cisses fault for missing from 6yds…
Everybody yesterday had a bad game and AP misjudged wigan (so did our players and most of our fans) and this gives the boys more reason to show chelsea what we are made of!

Comment #18GT89 About your stiches – They sometimes don’t dissolve as they should and come out as you describe. As long as there is no sign of infection they will all come out eventually. If you’re worried go and see your practice nurse.

Comment #22Sign this lad up (young, versatile & English) with Douglas & Debuchy (get rid of Simpson he’s decent but we need better & we have plenty of back up there with Perchinho, Ryan Taylor & Tavernier).
I think our defence would be sorted then for next season:
Debuchy-S. Taylor-Collocini-Santon (Prem)
Tavernier-Williamson-Douglas-Fryers (Europa)

Comment #23Will we ever learn Sir Alex doesnt sell good players to English clubs. At present we are stuck with Smith, Oberton and Simpson – not too long ago Butt. Man u are reportedly after a left back, so much for Fryers

Apr 29, 2012 at 11:06 PM
Comment #24smith and butt used to be great but didnt fit in our style at all and when we tried to change them they failed… obertan might be bad now but he might come good, he is only back up remember (ben arfa on the RW marveux/ba/jonas LW)
and simpson hasnt been as bad as everyone makes out… look at mertesacker and look at simpson and tell me who is worse… funny enough though simpson gets more hassle from newcastle fans then mertesacker does from arsenal fans
though I do agree… SAF only sells players to english clubs if he knows for a 100% sure he has 2 or 3 players better in that postion in his team

Melbourne Heart boss Didulica on Curtis Good’s #nufc trial: “#nufc wrote to us and they were extremely positive about Curtis’s time there”

Comment #27The article on Curtis:
Melbourne Heart defender Curtis Good is poised to land a contract with English Premier League club Newcastle United after he impressed in a ten day trial.
19-year-old Good was outstanding in his debut Hyundai A-League season where he made 25 appearances and with an EPL giant knocking at his door Heart’s resolve to keep him will be tested when the Magpies make a bid.
Good’s trial was extended and he spent the last few days training with the senior side, under the guidance of manager Alan Pardew.
Newcastle’s offer is expected to be for a senior contract rather than a reserve team deal.
“Newcastle formally wrote to us and they were extremely positive about Curtis’s time there and him as a person and that reflects well on the club and the A-League,” Didulica reportedly said.
I’m surprised he’ll be getting a senior contract. Must have really made an impact!

Comment #29having watched curtis good in the a league – yes hes a good player in the a league but that league you could compare to english non league…ill throw a few names in: michael bridges is a star striker and his partner is francis jeffers….Paul ifill is a contender for player of the year…Liam miller (man u reject) is also a star player…and the list goes on…its a crap league….stay well clear

Ifil was a good championship player and liam miller well he didnt do much but he was good for celtic.. Comment #34Not getting too excited about this one tbh. Admittedly this was one person’s opinion, but it’s a worry that half the people who read it gave it a tick (97 agreed, 98 disagreed):
sean says
Let him go, he had one good game against leeds and now thinks he is great, has been poor in all his other first team and reserve games, very little ability on the ball no where near good enough going forward to play fullback and not big and strong enough to play center back, he will never amount to more than a championship player

Comment #36Have to agree with Davy here.
We really don’t trust journalists and pundits when it comes to judging players do we?
I mean, look at their judgment on us at the start of the season…
Unless u’ve actually seen the player, there really is no room for slagging him.
