Newcastle After Legendary Former Real Madrid Striker?

We see there’s a report out,  suggesting that Newcastle are interested in former Real Madrid striker and captain Raul.

Raul – Schalke’s legendary Spanish striker

The former Spanish striker signed for German club Schalke in the summer of 2010, and this will be his last season at the club, with his two year contract running out in June.

And Raul has been in excellent goal-scoring form in Germany,  and in the 97 appearances he made for Schalke he scored 40 goals – not bad at all.

It is true that when Freddy  Shepherd was at the club,  Newcastle may have been interested in sign the player,  who turns 35 in the summer, and Raul has always scored goals – hitting 44 in his 102 appearances for Spain.

His record at Real Madrid was 323 goals scored in 741 appearances,  which is approaching that of the great Alan Shearer, who hit 379 goals in 733 total appearances at Southampton, Blackburn and of course for 10 years at his home town club – Newcastle United.

We don’t think Newcastle will be interested in the player however, and he could end up in Qatar, where he could earn big money to finish off his career, which has been a great one.

But Newcastle are a different club then they were in Shepherd’s time, and Billionaire owner Mike Ashley will not pay big wages to players who are past their best,  and are not the long term future of Newcastle.

Indeed, what Newcastle want to do is to bring in young players,  who they can then develop into the Raul’s of the football world – that’s Newcastle’s new strategy these days.

So we have big trouble thinking that Newcastle may be interested in the legendary Spanish striker, although we have been wrong one or times before. 😀

What do you think?

It don’t sound realistic, but if he were willing to take a huge paycut it would be excellent

Even if he barely played, his experience in and around the players would be hugely beneficial

Its not gonna happen tho haha

The site that made this suggestion ,almost certainly only did so in order to get hits on its site in order to increase its standing with advertisers. So whats your reason for printing it Ed ?

GFH….It’s in the websites header “News, Views and Commentary On Newcastle United Football Club By Ed Harrison, A Proud Geordie And Lifelong Fan”

Granted there is probably little truth in it, or most likely no truth, but it in a story on Newcastle 🙂

Too old and pricey for our budget and transfer agenda these days; wouldn’t be too bad an addition for a coaching role or something though

Question – Last week there were claims that we’d signed Romain Amalfitano. If we have why hasn’t it been announced like Marin to Chelsea and Podolski to Arsenal?

Raul is the exact type of forward we should be looking for, except 15 years younger. Kind of like a beardsley to give another option, Shane Long maybe?

Anyone think we should try and sign Santons best mate on loan next season?

We could offer to pay a percentage of his wage and give him playing time!

Mario Balotelli would be a good signing IMO.

In all honesty I think we need to sign 1 big personality who is thunderous on the pitch, a more vocal Tiote.

I said that we should sign a personality player the other day as it is something we lack. I don’t know who that could be as there aren’t many under 26 year olds that have that kind of persona or charisma.

I think that’s why I would’ve liked Chris Samba in Janurary but can you guys think of any players out there that could add quality and steel to the team. A player who can bring us back from the dead if we were loosing?

Its ok buying young players but we need a bit of metal at times. It’s something all the successful teams have. I think that’s why Verthongen is a must for us. We should move heaven and earth to sign someone like him. He may cost a wad but he’d pay it back in our league positions in the next few years.

I think that’s my only dissapointment in our transfer plan. I know we are 5 players totalling around 20 million away from top 4 and possibly title challenging but it won’t happen, yet I cannot understand why we cannot get another interest free loan from MA and pay it back when we finish 3rd next year.

Balotelli?!! Good player but not a chance I would have him here.
Look what has happened at man city with him. If he came here He would disrupt the dressing room. We don’t need players with that attitude at our club.

That’s a crease beattie you mad head, I know the type of player you mean but I’m not sure they’d fit into the dressing room, they normally have big ego’s. That’s why tiote ba cisse and the like are so good, cos they so cool. Like our captain cool

Mancini used to mange ballotelli at inter and has tried to calm him down for a long time, in a few years if he’s matured then maybe but Atm it would be a bad choice to sign him, plus he would cost £10million+
And his wages will be over 100 grand p/w
I know pardews a good man manager but he hasn’t had to deal with someone like balotelli.
