After Newcastle’s stunning win at Stamford Bridge tonight – Newcastle’s first win there since 1986, Alan Pardew hailed the brilliant Papiss Cisse, the scorer of Newcastle’s two great goals.
Papiss Cisse goes into orbit after fantastic second goal in stoppage time
And with the referee awarding Chelsea 10 minutes of stoppage time with Newcastle 1-0 up – it would have been 15 minutes if Newcastle had been 2-0 up – Papiss Cisse hit his and Newcastle’s second goal in stunning and sensational style.
And I use my words carefully.
It will be a candidate for the goal of the season, as the Senegal man sent a curling right foot shot from the left wing, over the Chelsea goalkeeper and into the net.
Cisse’s first goal was terrific, when he was set up by young Davide Santon, and his second was even better.
After the game a delighted Newcastle manager Al;an Pardew told Sky Sports:
“I actually thought we were going to win 1-0 with our 15th clean sheet of the season, but the goal was special.”
“It sums him up. He feels he is just going to score whenever he is near the goal.”
Newcastle were disappointing and poor on Saturday at Wigan, but they more than atoned tonight, with an excellent display.
It was one of the best performances of the season from the Magpies, who remain in 5th place tied on 65 points with Tottenham, with Spurs easily beat Bolton 4-1 at the Reebok tonight.
But now Newcastle are 4 points ahead of Chelsea, and could finish 5th top, which should mean we go straight into the group stages of the Europa League.
Yes I know – we can also finish 4th top – so we will now need to beat Manchester City on Sunday.
But it will probably be without the great Cheick Tiote, who was carried off on a stretcher in the second half, with no news on how bad the injury is.
A terrific show by this talented and gutsy Newcastle team tonight, and they deserve immense credit for what they achieved tonight, against a strong Chelsea side.

Comment #83Does anyone else think if we miss out on the champions league Mike Ashley should say fooook it not sell anyone and give pardew 30 million to buy 3 top class players for us to try and go for top 3 finish next season??
If we were to have a bad season and finish say 6th he could make the money back by selling one of the gems e.g tiote, cabaye or cisse.

Comment #90I WAS THERE! hahaha! My FIRST game ever , at shitty stamford bridge.. I was seated with the londoners (birthday present from my lady, she knows nothing), keeping my mouth shut, watching the game, the first goal, and the mad GEORDIES in the corner, then.. The second goal; I F*****G EXPLODED, hahaha!
Cisse was man of the match, but the ones to watch was you guys. Made me so damn proud to be a TOON!!
F**k where we end up at the table. We achieved everything this season. We took it all

Comment #91Well guys. Time for my essay.
Good performance tonight. Showed we are contenders. I think every single player on that pitch bled black and white for the result we needed to stay in contention.
2 magnificent goals from Cisse. He is a true number 9, just knows where the goal is. And he appears a great character too. Ba came close too and I feel bad he didnt get the goal he deserves.
I honestly cannot criticise a single player. The defense was solid (including Willo).
MOTM for me is Tiote because he was running the show for us before he went off. Cabaye and Cisse close second. Don;t need to explain Cisse but Cabaye was running his heart out. Winning important balls.
Here’s my team breakdown
Krul: Nothing much to do. But looked alive when at Wigan he looked a little rusty. Time wasting which is either smart of unsporting. You decide.
Perch: A very welcome appearance. I have always supported Simmo but recently he has looked uninterested in games. Perch played his heart out like Raylor did at LB at the beginning of the season. Made some crucial clearances and tackles. Probably our most improved player. I say this lad has earnt a run in at RB. Thoroughly.
Willo: A more improved game today once he settled. At first he struggled with Torres but eventually adapted to the game. Good to have for set pieces but needs to learn how to clear a ball properly. But overall good shift.
Colo: A beast in defence. Showed why he made PFA team of the year. Just so composed on the ball. Broke up and then launched attacks. His experience is an asset to this team and those around him. Just seems to know how to deal with everything that comes his way.
Santon: Is looking better each week. Like many of us predicted. Aside from when he gave the ball to chelsea and cut out our whole defence he was great. Still needs Jonas babysitting but what he brings to attack is great. Today I saw him link very well with the mid and strikers. Great assist for Cisse and he could have gained more. Well done man. Keep it up.
Cabaye: Did he stop running? Always winning the ball back (or trying). I looked at some stats earlier and he is right up there with the best in the league on every factor. His passing. His interceptions. His tackling. This guy is a gem of a find. The heart of NUFC. He is proving with each game why I was so excited about this signing. He bleeds black and white.
Tiote: At first I worried about this guy. Thought it was a send off in the making but Tiote’s contribution has always been his physical presence. He was our brick wall defensively breaking down attacks. But he was also our outlet for counters a lot tonight. He is far more than a brick wall. He is very skilled and improving in the prem each time. I hope to see this guy in a toon shirt next season. I met him when he was a new signing and he just comes across as a great guy.
Jonas: Generally the quite one on the team these days. Can go a whole gam with no significant contribution other than babysitting LB. Today he showed his versatility. Can attack and defend with competence. Made some great runs. Really is a valuable player to us. How did he get out of some of those tight spots.
HBA: A bit quieter today. But at least now when he has a quiet game he is still seen to be doing something. The overall game tactics sort of undermined his abilities but he proved today what he has learnt under Pardew. He had a great work rate. Carried out some great defensive duties at times. His corner nearly produced another goal. He did trouble defenders but sometimes his newfound selflessness holds him back from magic I think. A good shift. We cant always expect magic from him. At least we can expect a player to turn up in some way each week.
Cisse: 2 wonder goals. A natural striker. His partnership with Ba looks good but it will only get better. We have a real cannon on our hands with this lad. I wanted him in the summer. We finally got him. He confirmed my belief. Just wow.
Ba: Feel really bad he didnt get a deserved goal today. He showed more energy today and at times troubled defenders a lot. He can take it past players but he hasnt lately. Today he showed glimpses of his danger. I like the guys work rate. Personally I would have left him on and taken Cisse off (Would have been proven wrong) but his presence was there even if he didnt get his goal.
Raylor: Really stepped up to replace Tiote. Had lots of energy. Nearly created a goal for Cisse. Much different to the player we frustratingly saw flounder on RW while we waited for HBA’s rebirth. Very promising. His best show since the Manure game. Came in and helped secure the win. I would’ve brought him on for HBA had Tiote not gone off to seal the win.
Shola: A player I could see flourishing in the tactics used today. Still curious to see what he could do with Cisse partnering. Good player to have to bring on to secure wins. He can keep possession and his movement can bully defenders even if he ball work doesnt.
Obertan: Did not expect this sub but he seemed more central which I think suits him. We have seeen in Torres what confidence can bring or take away from a player. Obertan needs confidence. He has the ability. He needs some experience and confidence. But his pace was welcome when our team was knackered.
Pardew: Started with a very good game plan. We took the fight to Chelsea rather than sitting back. His subs were a bit different to what I would have done (but he’s the manager not me) but he saw out the game. We registered another great win to remember. One thing I have always liked about Pards is that whatever has been our downfall int he previous game is corrected for the next game. He always addresses issues as soon as he can.

Comment #93I just realised he scored the first with his left and the second with his right. Does that mean we should call his left foot his “less strong” foot because weak doesn’t seem to do the trick…

Comment #94The best thing about Cisses two goals, take them out of the game and it was one of the worst all round performances from him ive seen since he was pulled off in the derby. Spent alot of time defending and was dominated in large parts of the game by Terry and Ivanovic.
Sign on a class player though!

Comment #100Most importantly though. We were clinical in front of goal. 6 shots on target. 2 goals.
Even more importantly our 15th clean sheet of the season.
We talk a great deal about strengthening our defense. Look what we have achieved with ours currently. Only City and United have better records than us. With improvements it will be impenetrable.
There were times they were bombarded today. and still held it together.

Agree. But What will annoy me is if Crouch wins goal of the season.
Crouch’s was great but it was like Tiotes against Arsenal last year. Ball comes to him, have a punt.
Cisse’s was clean and way harder from the position his body was in.

Comment #103On another note, we only need 1 more win to guarantee 5th place this season regardless if Chelsea win their last two games which is unlikely as they have to play liverpool and a desperate Blackburn

Comment #104Long time reader since I was 16, almost 20 now and ive decided to create an account, completely different team to that of Wigan, although i had a feeling we would surprise a few tonight. Spectacular goal from cisse, if that does not get goal of the season i will buy a hat and eat it, big fan of the blog, its the first place i come to for match info/analysis, although you do get the odd daffty.

Comment #105P.S. i predicted tonight that if we beat Chelsea we would finish above them, fingers crossed we don’t get any silly offers in for our top players/cisse, although i think those days are past us, we have a great team here and i think with 3-4 good singinings we could very much attack the top 4, were in europe now so lets win that ;), apart from the odd few upsets (wigan, fulham, spurs) i have absolutley no complaints about this season, we have been fantastic, good team that could become great!!!
