Good News For Newcastle On Injury Front

9:42 am, Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 16 Comments

Newcastle could have Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux back on the bench for Newcastle at Stamford Bridge tonight.

Danny Simpson – could start tonight

And it appears that right back Danny Simpson, who was taken off at Wigan with an ankle problem, will be fit for tonight’s game against Chelsea.

Newcastle still have Sammy Ameobi out with that knee injury, and it seems unlikely he will be able to return this season, which finishes a week on Sunday at Everton.

And of course Steven Taylor is out for the season with his Achilles injury, but he is hoping to return to pre-season in early July.

The squad for tonight’s game contains Haris Vuckic, so we assume he is fit again.

Squad:

Krul, Elliot, Harper, Simpson, Santon, R. Taylor, Ferguson, Tavernier, Perch, Coloccini, Williamson, Tiote, Cabaye, Guthrie, Ben Arfa, Gutierrez, Obertan, Marveaux, Abeid, Gosling, Vuckic, Ba, Cisse, Shola Ameobi, Best.

It will be interesting to see what formation Alan Pardew starts tonight, and we don’t think it will be the open 4-3-3 formation.

Newcastle need to stay in this game as long as possible,  and we would think the team could play 4-4-2 or even a modified 4-5-1 in the first half, with Demba Ba holding back a little – just to ensure that we don’t lose the game in the first half, which we did last time out.

The longer Newcastle can stay in this game tonight, the more chance we will have of  winning it,  with Papiss Cisse seemingly able to score from almost anywhere in the penalty area.

That’s what Newcastle will be going for, all 3 points, but the lads will have to start solidly tonight to have any chance of accomplishing that goal.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

mayb we should accept 6th and play a crazy formation with people out of position and 5 strikers, u never know, has anyone ever tried this? could work out well, coloccini could be great up front and big shola in the centre of defence..never know do ya

This could be a very good game, but I don’t think we’ll win. 4-4-2 or deepish 4-5-1 would do, with Ben Arfa and Ba countering on the wings. I wrote up a small tactical preview of the match http://one-touch-passing.blogspot.co.uk/ if anyone is interested. Gives some good stats about Cabaye’s defensive play. Is the match on the box tonight? If not, anyone know any good links?
