News in the People that Newcastle are interested in Caen midfielder Romain Hamouma.
Romain Hamouma – Caen attacking midfielder
The news is that the 5’9″ right winger is also interesting Everton, and the 25 year-old would cost around £4M in the transfer market, according to reports.
The winger had been getting good reviews this season, and it seems Everton may be more interested in the player than Newcastle.
The French-born winger started his career at Besancon back in 2005, and he is from Algerian descent, with his paternal grandfather from the Kabylie region of Algeria.
Romain moved to Laval in 2009 before settling in Caen just one year later, and this is his second season at Caen.
He has been approached to play for the Algerian National team, but he has so far declined, and thinks he is more French than Algerian, and still has hopes of playing for France at the full International level.
The attacking midfielder has played 32 times for Caen this season with four goals and three assists, but he is currently out with a knee in jury.
Last season he played 31 times with 9 goals and 8 assists and the season before that, at Laval, he hit 10 goals in 32 games, so he can score those goals .
Caen are currently 6th bottom of the French League on 35 points from their 34 games played, and they are only 2 points above the drop zone, with four games to go, so they are by no means safe from relegation at the moment.
We expect Newcastle to sign some players from the French league in the summer, and it could be that Romain Hamouma is one of those.
If Caen are relegated Newcastle should be able to make a better deal than £4M, if indeed the lad is a Newcastle target.
Here is some video of the player from last year, and he looks a tricky winger, and fast too.

Comment #8Can’t understand people who say we are not equipped for the CL and it would not be in our best interests to qualify.
Well now maybe not, but with the money the CL would bring, we could get another 2/3 class players

Comment #9This guy reminds me a bit of Obertan, plenty of pace but no real final ball, I think we’ve been linked with better.

Comment #10Never seen the guy play, but unless he is a renound world beater cant see us eing interested in another winger.
Really hope Marveux gets the nod ahead of Gabby tonight if its not going well. So much more class.

Comment #11Agreed Rotonda – isn’t it the goal of every half decent team in europe?… its like winning lotto and saying nah, i don’t want first division – i’ll take the second division payout tho…
UCL all the way.
One last push starting tonight. I think we’ll edge Chelsea 2-1. Spuds will probably beat Bolton tho, maybe hope for a slip up… they’ve got villa and fulham in the last two games – hopefully they’ll go down their normal route of thinking the games are won before the kickoff.

Comment #12And talking of Frenchies, anyone think Amalfitano is a direct replacement for Guthrie?
He hasnt been on the bench for the last few games and i thought he had recovered for his injury so I reckon a few weeks ago he said hes not signing, so we finalised Amalfitano and leave him of the bench?
