Fabricio Coloccini had an excellent game last night at Stamford Bridge, and he showed why he was selected to the PFA Premier League Team of the Season at center-back, alongside Vincent Kompany.
Coloccini – in action last night – stopping Fernando Torres
Most Newcastle fans will say that the £10.4M acquisition of the Argentine almost four years ago, has been a great buy for Newcastle, and Fabricio has certainly been loyal, and he stayed with the club when we were relegated for the very first time from the Premier League, a short three years ago.
Fab had another excellent game last night as he marshaled the side well, and you could see for every corner and free kick against Newcastle, he was making sure everybody was in position in defense.
We cannot speak highly enough about this player, and not only is he an excellent defender, but he seems a terrific guy too.
Of course there is a certain Senegal striker getting rave reviews today, and Papiss Cisse deserves them for what he did last night.
And Papiss has turned out to be another phenomenal buy by Newcastle, and the Tyenside club certainly seems to know just exactly what they are doing in the transfer market these days.
This is what Fabricio had to say on the Newcastle web-site today:
“With what happened at Wigan people may have looked at us and thought the team is coming down now, but we showed that isn’t going to happen and we will continue to fight for fourth place until the end.”
“We defended well. They put in a lot of crosses but we dealt with them well. It was a team effort and we all worked so hard.” “Papiss was amazing. His second goal was fantastic and we just hope he can continue like this.”
“To have someone like that is great for the team because if we are defending well then we know him and Demba are capable of scoring a goal at the other end.”
“We have another tough game against Manchester City this weekend, but to go into it on the back of the Chelsea result and performance can only be a good thing.”
Good words from the captain there.
We did expect Newcastle to do well this season, but to be in 5th place and level on points with Tottenham, and just one point behind Arsenal with two games to go is simply amazing.
And Newcastle will take part on Sunday afternoon, in a closely watched game around the world, as the lads could decide who wins the Premier League this season.
If Newcastle can beat Manchester City on Sunday – Alan Pardew should expect a huge create of Scotch, and maybe the chance to sign one or two Manchester United players in the summer in cut price deals – compliments of Alex. 😀
It’s enough to be doing very well in the league, but to be able to perform, like the lads did at Stamford Bridge last night, is making Newcastle into a very popular side once again in England.
We couldn’t have hoped for more this season.
And to think this is not over yet – and Newcastle still have two games to play – and what are the chances that Newcastle can finish in 3rd place?
Newcastle were 100-1 to finish in the top four this season, and we could still have some surprises left this season.
Unbelievable is what it is.

Comment #2All we need to improve the team now, is a Belgian centre back who loves lobs and scissor kicks, and a mental Columbian forward who loves fire arms.

Comment #3From the previous thread re: Beatties list of great goals.
One thing that is clear from Beattie’s list, and the many adds to it, is that this side has produced a tremendous number of sublime moments this year. Incredible stuff.
Any room on the list for Shola’s two strikes this year…to tie it up late against Spurs, and the same against the mackem scum.

Comment #4Truly remarkable season and fully deserved victory. All the lads had a great game, it was brilliant to watch.
We need to keep this going now and get a victory against Man City and Everton… 9 wins in 10 to end the season, now that’s what I call sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
