One thing that will happen after Papiss Cisse’s exploits last night, is that his goals will get some great publicity, and there will be some big clubs who will want Cisse in their ranks next season.
Freddy Shepherd - thinks Newcastle could lose Cisse this summer
Newcastle paid about £8M for the striker from German club SC Frieburg in January, after scouting him for over a year, but how much would he be worth now?
Big big bucks is the answer, and it’s now possible that Newcastle could get a huge offer for him in the summer that they cannot refuse – and similar to the offer they received from Liverpool for local lad, Andy Carroll 16 months ago.
Former Newcastle Chairman Freddy Shepherd, who spent money Newcastle didn’t have during his 10 year reign in charge of Newcastle, thinks that scenario will happen.
This is what Freddy told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show this morning:
“All the vultures will be circling around Cisse in the summer trying to get him away from Newcastle,“
“It’s impossible if they want to go, it’s no good keeping them. I think there may be an offer Newcastle can’t refuse for Cisse coming in.”
Newcastle are level on points with fourth-placed Spurs, and just a point behind third-placed Arsenal, and if Newcastle are to build a great team again, it’s important that we keep our best players and get into that Champions League as quickly as possible, where there is big money to be made.
If we keep selling our top players, we’ll never be great again, and being regular Champions League participants, must surely be Mike Ashley’s new goal for Newcastle United.
If it is not then it should be, and let’s keep all our players on Tyneside this summer.
If we can do that, and bring in a few top players, especially in defense, we will be well set for next season, to go all out for a top four position.
And when Freddy was asked if he thinks Newcatsle have a chance of finishing in the top four this season - this is what the former Chairman said:
“You wouldn’t put it against Newcastle doing it .” “I really think they have got a great chance.”
We need to stop being a selling club if we want to be great again.
Howay The Lads!!

Every big team will want him, who wouldn’t? I want him to stay, of course, he’s a goal scoring machine. What does everyone think it will take to make Ashley sell?
Would have to be some big sum surely. If AC went for £35m, I can’t even begin to think what this hero is worth.
3 Londtoon // May 3, 2012 at 9:37 AM
If he really loved this club he wouldn’t say comments like that as it draws extra attention and you imagine the media will have an absolute field day with this story and take attention away from the underlying fact. That Newcastle themselves are back to the big time.
Stupid man.

Fat Freddie no one cares what u think anymore
Mike Ashly this is your biggest summer in charge u can win over the remaining doubters if u play the transfer market jus right n that means keeping this squad intact
Am getting a bit of fans, journos talking about as a selling it’s even gone as far as they now only think we will keep players less than 3 month of signing them its joke we ain’t sold anyone that we all wouldn’t of sold
6 russtoon // May 3, 2012 at 9:41 AM
FAT FREDDY!!! Keep it doon lad!!! just because you would have sold him in a heartbeat!!!
HAHA
Anyway off topic lads but have just watched the sky sports piece on there website showing the interview with the Geordie boys from Senegal!!
New signings shouldn’t be a problem next season now that we have two kit sponsors!!!
Mess up before the coah left me thinks, they still have the Northern Rock sponsor on the trackie tops haha
and back to reallity now!!!
Great game, great result and two breathtaking finishes form our No9. HWTL, stay strong and finish stronger!!

Demba must be getting a bit p****d off with it all now!! Have to feel for him! hah
The link worked, you just need to copy paste it.
I think the Sky Sport did it intentionally to create more juicy stories between them. You can see Cisse reluctant to answer, he felt bad answering those questions with Ba as translator. The reporter didn’t even care those questions will put them in uncomfortable position. Hopefully it has positive effect on Ba.

Cisse to be sold ….no problem 60 mill minimum…and to be frank I think its a fair price…

Cisse is a gem, and unlike Shepherd, Irreplacable. Methinks Mr Ashley will build a team around his Blue Chips this summer, one of whom is Cisse.
12 redondo77 // May 3, 2012 at 9:49 AM
Cisse is different case with Carroll. In AC case, it was opporturnity to get rid of a problem and making 35mil in the process.
I think MA will let Cisse go if some club offering 80mil+

Who would you rather have at the moment? Cisse who can score from ANYWHERE.. or Ronaldo who has missed 2 penalties I think in as many games? Price tag on Cisse?
15 Toon_Tom // May 3, 2012 at 9:53 AM
id rather sell Ba for £30M than Cisse for £80M
16 Lachu // May 3, 2012 at 9:53 AM
Ed , i am a big fan of your blog, always enjoyed wat you and the other fans had to say on this blog ,but off late theres been a lot of rubbish.Like the one you made Ba for 40m , now this headline!!! why cant u say “we need to hold on to papiss” or “papiss will be in demand” and the like and “Why is it we could loose Papiss”. Please Ed dont try to create a storm inside a tea cup. Take care

if cisse scores like he is, and we can get champions league football, well he just earnd the club 30 million right there, so why would they want to sell a golden goose?

19 CODARM (The poster formely known as Ibizatoon) // May 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM
Guys…he’s an amazing player who we got for £9m (or there abouts). If someone comes in and offers say £50m+ I think Ashley wont be able to help himself, it would be “good business” in a sense. Still think we should keep on to him though, his goals will propel us to great things
20 Londtoon // May 3, 2012 at 10:03 AM
Boy is more than worth the golden boot next year. Heard it here first. Try put a price on that.
21 check the toastie // May 3, 2012 at 10:03 AM
3 teams who can afford him., Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, 50/60 million pound player. any offers this summer, i doubt it, maybe next one though if he keeps it going.
22 Indian Magpie // May 3, 2012 at 10:03 AM
We got Cisse for 9 million and last night i was thinking, in 2002 liverpool bought El Hadji Diouf for 10 million as a striker and turned him into winger!!!!!!!!!!!
23 mkhalaf // May 3, 2012 at 10:07 AM
cisse 55mill
ba 33mill
cabaye 26mill
chieck 30-35 mill

I believe this is the MINIMUM MA would sell any of these players who hve been linked with other clubs…up front cash as well

Freddy Shepherd should know better and keep his big trap shut. He is only going to bring unwanted and unnecessary attention to this situation.
As far as I’m concerned, however, there is no situation. Cisse has just come here – he’s scoring goals for fun and is obviously happy at this club.
Why should we want to accept ANYTHING for a striker who can win games on his own? Once in a lifetime players like this can NOT be replaced no matter the price.
Ashley has to realise that selling players each time their value soars is a total waste of time as we will never build a top team with that strategy.
Players like Cisse will get us into the Champions League at some point with all the £30+ million riches it brings.
Isn’t that better each season than a few quid in the bank to get two or three more players in who might, or might not, be as influential as Cisse?
Tell them all to get lost Mike – publicly say these top performers are going nowhere and get out there and continue with our successful transfer policy.
Get it right and we could be heading for a new era at this club.
Get it wrong and you may live to regret it – big time.
26 Rotonda heights // May 3, 2012 at 10:11 AM
Not even that media whore Shepherd can ruin it for me today. Why does he even have to mention it, what’s it got got to do with him. Shepherd (and Hall) raped the club and he still spouts off. It’s a happy day, enjoy it and leave outgoing transfer talk for the end of the season.
Shepherd was an idiot who paid fortunes of the fans money for Owen, Luque, Boumsong etc and kept getting us appalling managers like Souness. The guy has zero credibility but still runs his mouth.
If Papiiss goes, we are talking 80M.

Freddie that old saying “Don’t judge others by your own standard” comes to mind!!! Just because you’d have sold him at the first opportunity, doesn’t mean the NEW entertainers will!! Time to give MA, DL and of course Sir Alan Pardew some well deserved credit!

Sick of hearing stuff about Demba Ba, was at the game last night and he shrugged about 3 players off at the end who tried to include him in the celebrations after.
I’m sorry Demba if your not scoring goals but this isnn’t about your season, this is about Newcastle and where we’ve risen from over the last few years. Can garuntee that the likes of Lovenkrands etc are buzzing even though they’re not getting minutes because the genuinely care.
The fact the goals have dried up for him shows why we shouldn’t shit the bed every time we here about uncertainty, i bet theres a lot more players just waiting to come through our scouting system so if he wants to go to PSG or whereever than let him. If we make champions league I dont see how we wouldn’t try and get a natural LW like Junior Hoillet anyway

32 Frognastie // May 3, 2012 at 10:46 AM
We have a genuine BIG game goal scorer, they are hard to come by, can’t see no reason why we would want to sell him. As for Demba Ba, he is still very important to the team. We now have very good attacking options, all different.
33 mallyonthetoon // May 3, 2012 at 11:06 AM

This is all about yesterday’s man, the incompetent bloke who raked it in off the club and nearly sank it with the debt heaped on board, who with his muppet sidekick made us a laughing-stock, this is all about him keeping himself in the news. Nothing else. Too thick to embarrass himself, too self-serving to see his own flaws, Fat Freddie has sucked at the tit of NUFC for far too long, sucked like a tick until it drops off, so please…no more attention! Good riddance.
37 bills-son // May 3, 2012 at 1:05 PM
Ed says “We need to stop being a selling club if we want to be great again.”
Ed, we aren’t a selling club, so we don’t need to ‘stop being a selling club’.
Selling clubs constantly sell their best players, we don’t, we offer them extended contracts and they sign. The only player we have sold since promotion who we offered a contract to that did not sign was Enrique. Barton, Nolan and Routledge weren’t offered new deals and AC left just after signing one.
This ‘we’ve got to stop being a selling club’ is pure nonsense and a fairy story that people like Ed need to stop telling.
38 demba_ba_ba_ba // May 3, 2012 at 2:55 PM
why is any even talking about selling our players we are the only team in the top six that people are saying players could or would leave and i think it is crazy , we are having one of our best seasons in our history and have made some of the best signings the club has ever seen aswell. Cant see any of our players wanting to leave , mite be made to leave if right bid comes in.

havent posted for ages but now I have to… what a idiotic article to write. change the headline idiot.. stop spreading crap that can hurt the club by creating unrest in the media. I expect this kind of crap by southern journo’s but not from Newcastle fans themselves. Just wait until other crap media picks up this… Cisse leaving will be the main talking point in the summer. Why even put this out?? He’s going to cost 40-50 million quid for a buyer anyways… doubt he will leave

Balubas1- I am afraid I have to agree. Just as Fat Freddy has put his foot in it so has Ed Harrison. Please Ed stop being a shit stirrer and mention this lightly not as a headline and a new article for the whole world to see. You are just fueling the fire that will now doubt catch wind when the southern press see this. We will have to go through all the motions again surely in the future but maybe because of this article and Fat Freddy’s unnecessary comments it might come much sooner than expected.
It’s not the first time you’ve done this Ed and it only makes thing worse and makes fans agitated by the news. Apart from that I love this Blog and keep up the great work.

Agree with both the above and Ed you must know that The Fat Slimebag has an agenda which is mainly anti Fatman and probably anti NUFC as well despite his claims that he’s a dyed in the wool Geordie.
Shepherd with the help of Hall raped this club of over £150m during their reign of incompetence. They should never be allowed the oxygen of publicity no matter how banal their drivel becomes.
47 alec6247toon // May 3, 2012 at 11:46 PM
Cisse isn’t going anywhere this summer. He just got here! With regards to the ambitions, I think that regular champions league is a little bit ahead of ourselves. What we need to be looking at for the next couple of seasons is making sure we qualify for europa league whilst expanding our squad, bringing through some of the youngsters and replacing any players we lose with better quality. Once we are in a position where we are making profit year on year, then we can start spending a little bit more on the players that will take us to that next level and start looking at being consistent champions league contenders. That would be my plan for the club personally. There is no point putting ourselves in a position where we have overstretched the finances again like we did under fat Freddy.
