It continues to amaze us just how well Alan Pardew is doing at Newcastle this season.
I love you Papiss Cisse – look at the startled look on Papiss’ face
Alan has somehow, with the help of Graham Carr and the scouting staff, and the Newcastle Board and owner, built a great side this season.
Just think how players like Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye, Tim, Krul, Davide Santon and Perchinho, among others, have all come through in such a big way this season.
Not one of them was a regular in the team last season, and of course most of them are new to the club.
It’s amazing alright, and it shows what a great motivator the Newcastle manager is, and we think if the lads can beat Manchester City on Sunday, Alan has to be Manager of the Season – easily.
To suggest Roberto Mancini should be the winner, if City win the Premier League, is nonsense – I suppose I could do pretty well if I had players worth around £600M or more in the squad.
A good manager is one who can get the very best out of the players at his disposal – that’s the best way to look at it.
Alan talked to the local press today about the biggest game of the season for the Magpies on Sunday, in a game that will generate interest all over the world, and it could well decide who wins the English Premier League this season:
“We all know what a game this is.” “We’ve got a great team, and our fans can come on the back of a great result.”
“We’re talking about two of the best teams in the Premier League this year, ourselves and Man City.”
“They’re going for the title, we’re going for the Champions League.” “It’s going to be tough, but they’ll give us the respect we deserve.”
“It’s a big hurdle, but we’ve beaten Man United at home, and we’ll be trying to get the double.”
Newcastle cannot have a let-down on Sunday, like we did against Wigan, when the game was over in the first 45 minutes, and there can be no room for any complacency in our last two games of the season.
Two wins and Newcastle fans will be in high orbit – very high orbit.

Comment #1You know, after the Wigan match, I didn’t think our lads would be up for this one. After the Chelsea match, I think we can beat anybody. We need a good showing and some loud voices for our last home game. Lets make some noise.

Comment #5No doubt this is a really big game, but with he colective force of will of countless Geordies from around the globe, and the surging mass and noise of 52k in the stadium we will push the lads forwards and carry Ba, Benny and Cisse goalwards in a humiliating bubble-bursting, Mancini-mangling humilation. 3-0. C’mon, Lawro, put us down to lose! 🙂

Comment #6MA gamble buying Cisse has well and truly paid off. His goals have propelled us up the table.
Hope this gives MA the confidence to buy more top top player from the advice of Carr. Is there another Cisse out there?

Comment #7My sons got a football tournament in Austria with his team on Sunday so won’t be able to watch the match. The last match i couldn’t watch was Wigan. Hope this isn’t an omen. Still I#ll be hoping for a toon win. 3:0 like United will do nicely. Come on the toon.

Comment #8Moving Guti to the 3 man midfield has been a good idea. He simply does not score enough to warrant being on the wing or part of a front 3. He is good at retaining possession even if that means wining a free kick from going down easily.
At present we have 3 player who are capable of scoring 15 goals per season plus Cabaye who will hopefully weigh in with more goals next season. Goal difference is currently costing us 4th place. We need more goals in the team but from where? Corners? Has Willo scored this season?

Comment #10@Bollance. We don’t need more goals! The reason our goal difference isn’t that great is because when we lose, we lose heavily. Tottenham 5-0, Wigan 4-0, Fulham 5-2, Chelsea 3-0, Norwich 4-2. It just seems our defence is either rock solid, or leaks goals like there’s no tomorrow 🙂

Comment #12we need to score first on Sun, simple as that. We have not won a league game, and have only picked up 3 points in total this season when we have conceded first

Comment #14Agreed. Pards has got to me manager of the season.
Mancini has credentials and an absolute fortune to spend. What he has done is nothing special by a long shot.
My friends and I debate this all the time and its got to be between Paul Lambert, Brendan Rodgers and Pards. And looking at all three, they have each achieved a great deal. But the way Pards has built this team from scratch and got them playing is fantastic. Easily Manager of the Season

Comment #15One thing worries me about the Man City game and its that the clogger ‘De Jong’ goes out to get one of ours, he got Wellbeck last week, so could imagine Ben Arfa, Ba, or Cisse may be on it this time.

Comment #16Ed, you got it exactly right. A great manager is able to get the most out of the players he has, and AP has done that exceptionally well. Compare this to something Sam Allardyce said in an interview during his time at NUFC when the team was on a losing spell. He noted ” you have to work with the players you’ve got, not the ones you want…” NUFC has undergone a complete transformation since those days….
