Lap Of Honor For Newcastle Fans After Tomorrow’s Game

10:44 am, Saturday, May 5th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 262 Comments

Newcastle players will do a lap of honor after tomorrow’s game against Manchester City, to thank their fans for the great support they have given the team this season.

Alan Pardew – lap of honor for fans tomorrow

And wouldn’t it be fitting, if Newcastle can get the win against money bags Manchester City – the best team money can buy.

And we have to hope the home season ends on a better note than last year when out lads conceded 3 goals in the last 30 minutes to surrender a 3-0 lead, and Mike Ashley was livid after the game.

Alan talked about the lap of honor is his press conference yesterday:

“We have a great set of players and we are going to go round that pitch at the end for the fans. As much as we have had a great season, so have our fans.”

“They have been behind us and have not given us a hard time in any home fixture.” “We hope to round off a great day with a win and a walk round the pitch.”

“We never got carried away with a win. We have analysed and gone through why we were beaten.”  “The two days after the Wigan game were more important than the performance.”

“We needed honesty in terms of what happened, and how we would put it right.”  “The answers we came up with were the reason we won at Chelsea.”

“We put it right. It is very rare to be able to do that.”

We have to remember that tomorrow’s game will be very difficult for Newcastle, and the lads must come out fighting from the very first whistle, and even expect their toughest match of the season.

If the lads can do that and produce something close to their best form, then  Newcastle could end their home season at St. James’ Park the way it should end – with the win.

That’s what we are hoping for tomorrow afternoon.

Comments welcome.

You have to ask yourself at times like this Indian…is life worth living any longer?

    Obviously a joke

  • 7 WWJBD // May 5, 2012 at 10:50 AM

Even if we lose 6 nil tomorrow the team deserve to have a full house for their lap, annoyed me no end last year when most of the stadium left prior to it

    Spot on WWJBD.

Indian. Whilst I completely agree that you’ve let yourself down big time by getting second you just have to move on

  • 12 GeordieToon89 // May 5, 2012 at 10:54 AM

WWJBD – Yeah that annoyed me last season aswell when most the stadium left, a think last season though everyone was still highly peed because of what happened with hoots carroll and pardew but this season has been truly amazing

  • 13 check the toastie // May 5, 2012 at 10:54 AM

Wud be much nicer to do the lap after a superb winning performance, i can feel it in my bones, a cheeky shut out 1-0 win, need to get Benny running at Barry, get the slow sh1t sent off, hope Howard Webb gives us some decisions, personally we have been on the wrong end of a few lately.

NuFC, Have Not lost a match on Sunday, long may it continue

  • 15 Ian Magpie // May 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM

One things for sure……..EACH AND EVERYONE OF US WHO IS AT THE MATCH SHOULD LIFT THE ROOF OFF THE STADIUM WITH NOISE! I am sick and tired of the poor atmosphere our stadium creates these days and its high time we let the world know who we are! Not just the Strawberry Corner but everyone should get behind the lads and support them to the hilt! Noise noise noise!!!!! like we had years ago! We have centre stage for one of the most important games in the WORLD!!! Lets show them who we are!!!! HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!!!

  • 16 WWJBD // May 5, 2012 at 11:07 AM

Aye probably true but all of those events had nothing to do with the people on that lap. I was amazed at how many people left after a great season for us

  • 24 MacToon // May 5, 2012 at 12:02 PM

Beating Chelsea was Pardew’s first win in London with NUFC, I couldn’t believe it when I heard this. Seems he’s having a similar problem in London as SBR had with us.
Been a great season especially for great goals. Some performances have been bad but results generally have been great and now we can witness some great football too at SJP.

I think Pardew’s done a great job so far and if his pay is performance related as we’ve been told then he’s in for a bumper pay packet at the end of the season and well deserved I say.

  • 25 CODARM (The poster formely known as Ibizatoon) // May 5, 2012 at 12:03 PM

not sure if anyone mentioned it yet but the world’s best paid teams league is now out, including all sports..

NUFC has dropped from 63 last year to 127 this year, amazing considering how much we have improved on the field.

No surprises in top 5 of Barca, Real Madrid, Citeh and Chelski and Milan.

  • 54 CODARM (The poster formely known as Ibizatoon) // May 5, 2012 at 12:37 PM

Ashamed I am. I imagine they’ll be stuck to Cisse tomorrow (if it’s possible) so that should get Ba in the game a bit more and I’d love him to get a goal.

I don’t think any keeper would have saved Cisse’s 2nd against Chelsea.

Is anyone else sad that tomorrow will not only be the last time we see nufc this season but it will be last time we see some of the players that have been with us since the days of the championship and have been a big part (regardless of if you rate them or not) of our rise from the ashes.

So here’s to Peter Lovenkrands, Alan Smith, Steve Harper and possibly Danny Guthrie, Danny Simpson, Leon Best and Mike Williamson.

Who knows what we will look like next season. But in the famous words of Take That ‘Never forget where youve come here from’

Definitely, I’ve thought that as well, all they do is hold up a board, why aren’t watching the game on a monitor and then tell the ref it’s a fk, pen etc.

  • 120 GeordieToon89 // May 5, 2012 at 1:39 PM

FA Cup doesnt effect us atall tonight so am going for Chelsea win just cos Torres is one of me favourite players, Oh and Mata is class aswell… Only player a like from Liverpool is Gerrard

  • 121 rich_toonfan // May 5, 2012 at 1:39 PM

    @MFH

it wouldn’t be in everybody’s interest…it would be in smaller clubs interest and the bigger clubs use their power to dismiss these plans all the time

What we need is a good standard of referee first. The replay showed he had a clear, unobstructed view of the shirt pull…..from 15 yards

if you cannot spot that it is a foul you should not even referee a sunday league game

  • 122 Robby Bobson // May 5, 2012 at 1:39 PM

    Norwich you beautiful people!!!!

Now lets hope the scum of the earth villa in front of their 3 fans can actually win a game tomorrow!! On a side now, how funny is it they mocked us getting relegated when we were selling out the last few games, they in relegation fight their fans stay away….

Alot wil be forgiven though with a win tomorrow.

  • 126 Offkey // May 5, 2012 at 1:43 PM

Agree with all the ref comments. This season seems to have really stood out for some refereeing disasters that often go the way of the ‘big’ club.

  • 127 Toon Tang // May 5, 2012 at 1:43 PM

look good for the lead and could be 3 at least if that cut back wernt defended the way it was

  • 128 Offkey // May 5, 2012 at 1:44 PM

Dont envisage Arsenal having it all their own way at West Brom even though they are not the best at home. RH last game (especially at home) makes me think he will have the players really up for it.

  • 129 rich_toonfan // May 5, 2012 at 1:46 PM

    @offkey

not sure if the referees are any worse and make more mistakes….or if it is just highlighted more now.

If you think sky highlight the problem more, pressure grows on fifa to include technology, then sky get to have all these extra features of goal line technology or replays to play with.

  • 130 Pardew's fist pump // May 5, 2012 at 1:46 PM

Hopefully the ref has a look at his mishap at half-time and has it in the back of his mind.

  • 133 rich_toonfan // May 5, 2012 at 1:50 PM

    But seriously on refs

how can they miss so many decisions and get so much wrong, as well as each ref having different tollerance levels or shirt pulling, diving etc.

It annoys me when commentators say refs should use common sense. They should not.

Common sense leads to all kins of inconsistencies we are seeing now….they need to be given a good set of rules and be able to follow them regardless of the teams playing, the players, whether 5 or 50 mins has gone in the game……

If a player deserves a red in 1st minute he should go….never been a more clear red that david luiz against us this season but not given purely because it was early and the ref didnt want to see him go.

Personally I think giving a red for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity is harsh anyway….not guarentee the player would score and also a yellow and a penalty (usually in the box) is enough really.

  • 134 GeordieToon89 // May 5, 2012 at 1:51 PM

Offkey – Ive got Arsenal down to lose away to West Brom, that was the only slip up i predicted from these final 2 games, a also strangely fancie Villa to get a point tomorrow at home to Spurs

Thanks for trying but I can’t get than link up either – there’s a block on that too :-(

Why is it blocked – is it because it’s definitely the goal of the season ?

    Rich

Yeah I see where you’re coming from, but
Wales got the Grand Slam this year because a last minute English touch down was ruled inadmissible by the video ref. I got no problem with that bach, but in football I do think the big clubs would benefit from the 4th official doing a job in support of the three on the pitch.

Gooners being 3-1 down at half time has a knock on effect on us and spuds – there’s millions hang on even one naff decision. Might be a duff penalty tomorrow for us and Citeh lose the Prem as a result.

  • 137 Offkey // May 5, 2012 at 1:52 PM

  • 138 check the toastie // May 5, 2012 at 1:52 PM

Dont want to tempt fate, we certainly dodged a bullet with Gervinho, not only is his hair outrageous, his footballing ability is also cack.

  • 139 GeordieToon89 // May 5, 2012 at 1:53 PM

If a ref has got set rules and every one of them sticks by those rules then the game of football would be a better place with less cheats!.. And if a ref doesnt obide by those rules he should inturn be fined and banned for a set number of games like a Red Card sort of thing.. it will help the referees work harder to stick to the rules and atleast they would all know the rules! Also they really need some clarification about the bloody offside it changes every week it should go back to the old days if your behind the last defender when the ball is played then your offside

  • 244 rich_toonfan // May 5, 2012 at 2:45 PM

it is a great result as it means even i we lose tomorrow we go into the last set of fixtures knowing we still have a spot to play for…would need an arsenal loss but at least it means we have a chance.

  • 245 check the toastie // May 5, 2012 at 2:45 PM

With Roy, now in charge i imagine Ben Foster might go to euros, and to be fair the lad is pretty good.

Just imagine now if we win 2moro and Souds Draw, we will be in 3rd going into next week, when Moyes puts his youth team out, Oh My God, sh1t the bed, gunna struggle to sleep tonite.

  • 246 davetoon // May 5, 2012 at 2:46 PM

yeah just like the condescending, Newcastle have had a great season but I can’t see it continuing comments. Hope we can show em.
The whole world will be watching tomorrow.

    Pardew’s fist pump // May 5, 2012 at 2:41 PM

I not saying he dived mate, maybe he tripped, maybe the defender blocked him (I saw the replay 3 times, but they showed only one angle).

I just don’t think it was a pure foul. Maybe their feet collided or something

    Robby Bobson // May 5, 2012 at 2:42 PM

I don’t buy the “nothing to play for” theory and I am sure if we will dig into last year alone, we will find teams that had nothing to play for, and were winning and drawing against those who had to win for some reason.

Norwich is a football team, with a good spirit. They are winners in their hearts (as all pro players) so they want to win every game.

Also, you never want to be the one that everybody say about you: That team gave the game away.

  • 251 rich_toonfan // May 5, 2012 at 2:49 PM

This has to be one of the best prem league ever.

Not amazing quality like ronaldo or messi in it but great football.

The title is still up for grabs and could be decided on goal difference.

Still 4 teams going for the 2 remaining champs league spots…might even be 1 spot.

Still a battle down the bottom of the league….anything could happen there.

Seen some brilliant results 6-1 city at old trafford, 8-2 to man utd against arsenal, just great, entertaining games.

  • 252 WWJBD // May 5, 2012 at 2:49 PM

This season must be the best Sky have had in years will be battle for the title, battle for CL and battle to avoid relegation when was the last time that happened

And we are in one of the good battles!!!!! :D

yeh i know, great minds ey.

it is a brilliant league this year….add to all that drama that newcastle are one of the teams pushing for the champs league nd thats the icing on the cake.

  • 256 Offkey // May 5, 2012 at 2:56 PM

Like others have said……at the very least it is back in our hands to get fourth……whether that’s a CL place or not we would have to wait and see.

Third still possible and I am still hoping for that, straight in to group stages for CL………..

  • 257 WWJBD // May 5, 2012 at 2:56 PM

Aye its been mental. Swansea and Norich over achieving has been great, manager issues at Villa and Liverpool has been full of laughs, Blackburns, Spurs, Wigans and QPRs insane form. Sunderland having their standard manager high then boring lows….only Stoke has let us down by being boring though they gave us Crouchs wonder goal

  • 258 davetoon // May 5, 2012 at 2:56 PM

agree about this year, i think when financial fair play is enforced properly, it can only get better

  • 259 Robby Bobson // May 5, 2012 at 2:56 PM

Last time we went into the last game fighting for something positive? (as in not for prem survival).

Im 22 and been watching them for 18 years and i cant remember a time. whatever happens tomorrow, CL goes to last game.

Buzzing for the next week of footy.

  • 260 ITUNDERASHELL // May 5, 2012 at 3:06 PM

Its all opening up for us and we are not under pressure like Arsenal, Tottenham or the two Manchester clubswe will be the most relaxed team going into the last two games knowing two wins will put us in the champions league, Pardew keep the lads feet firmly on the ground.
If you are lucky enough to have a ticket to the match tomorrow you must scare the living daylights out of city and the way to do that is to sing your hearts our.
    ENOUGH SAID!
    Go lads, Go.

  • 261 ITUNDERASHELL // May 5, 2012 at 3:10 PM

Never mind the moon, where going into the big boys league, so SING YOUR HEARTS OUT.
