In his press conference yesterday Alan Pardew said that Newcastle have done so well this season, that it has set up a problem for next season.
Papiss Cisse – has improved this year
That’s because the expectations for Newcastle will be sky high come August, and the lads may not produce, but hey, we’d rather have that problem than to under-perform this season.
One way to look at it, is that Newcastle have set the new standard this year, and now we need to make sure that in the summer the squad is improved significantly, and we should be OK for next season.
But of course we are not thinking too much of next season right now, as the lads still have a massive two games to play.
And Newcastle are the in-form team in England at the moment, and the game at home to Manchester City is another game that will be keenly watched around the world.
Alan was asked about – have a guess – Papiss Cisse at his press conference yesterday, and he thinks the lad has improved in the short time he has been on Tyneside:
“When we looked at the tape of him, it was obvious he wanted to score goals,” “But there was nothing really else you could see.”
“Where he has improved I think is his link-up play and his intelligence in terms of where he should be on the pitch.”
“He is a really good player, there’s no doubt about it. I thought we were maybe just buying a goalscorer who might have been a bit selfish, but I have not found that.”
“He has a really good work ethic, and we have worked on that side of things. We have something special in place at the training ground which is good, because the players all support each other and help each other.”
” Papiss is part of that, and Demba Ba has been a big part of it too.”
That goal of Cisse’s is being shown all over the place, and the NY Times had a good piece on Newcastle yesterday, with a video of the goal, and it has put Newcastle United right at the top of the publicity stakes.
Mike Ashley said he wanted to build Newcastle United’s global brand when he arrived in the summer of 2007, and that has happened big time this season.
Newcastle are now becoming a very popular side, much like Kevin Keegan’s great Entertainers of the 1990s. The current side is not as good as Kevin’s team going forward, but we have a much better defense.
So take you pick.
But this season Newcastle have hit pay dirt – so to speak – they have been simply magnificent.

Comment #3I would expect Pardeau to win Manager of the Month first, with the results we have produced, to be honest, I was suprised he didnt get it last month!!
Cisse got “Goal of the Week” which was absolutely NO suprise lol – its still being shown all over and it still makes me laugh every time I see it – its just not possible to do that with a football lol – truely amazing.
With even a few of the players we have been linked with coming in, providing we keep all the main members of the Squad, this team reall could go places next season – remember, we are a “work in progress” with lots of room to become even better. Thats something I really look forward to seeing.

Comment #6From the article – “The current side is not as good as Kevin’s team going forward, but we have a much better defense.”
Believe it or not, I seem to recall that Keegan’s side only conceded 28 league goals in “that” season. 2nd best defensive record, behind “that” team. That may have been more a result of managing to keep the ball at the other end; however is that not good defending also?

You beat me to it, the Entertainers had a very good defensive record.
I can never understand it when people say that we played a “score whatever you like we will just score more” attitude.
