James Perch has had an amazing year, and he has put his career right back on track.
Perchinho - Newcastle’s Brazilian wonder?
Perchinho came in at right back on Wednesday night, and had another strong game for the Magpies at Stamford Bridge, but Newcastle fans are now getting used to that from the former Nottingham Forest player, who had a very tough time of things last season.
Indeed, James didn’t even make the US tour last summer, and it was thought his Newcastle career was over, but he has stuck in, believed in his own ability, and with the help of Alan Pardew, has become a very important player for Newcastle.
James has has had starring roles this year at left back, center-back and right back, as well as looking a very good player in defensive midfield.
James is the type of player every club needs, one who can come in and get the job done for the side, and of course he can do that in many different positions, which will get him lots of sub appearances for the side.
Alan Pardew has today praised the Mansfield-born player:
“I told him what he was doing but you would think in the dressing room he is just ready to go out for a pizza with his wife.”
“He does not get too fazed by anything whether I tell him today it is right-back or left-back. He just crosses his legs and has a cup of tea.”
“He does not put any pressure on himself which comes from confidence in his own ability. I think the fans have brought into that.”
“When you come from where he has come from, Forest, it is not the same as Cabaye winning the league in France.”
“You are going to get instant respect for that. When you come from Forest you have to earn that.
“I think he understands that and is at the top of his game.”
James signed on at Newcastle in the summer of 2010 from Nottingham Forest, for something less than £1M.
Last season was a poor first season for him, but this season he has appeared 26 times in Newcastle’s colors, to go with the 15 appearances he made last season.
We’d like to see James get an extension to his contract in the summer, so that he stays more than the two years he has left on his current deal.
James has been a star player for Newcastle this year in many different positions, and he deserves great credit for that.
And maybe James can even become the first choice right-back next season?
