Can Magpies Get Top French International In Cut-Price Deal?

Sochaux are currently bottom of the French league and it could well be that they will be relegated.

Marvin Martin – Sochaux central midfielder

And one of their top players is 23 year-old midfielder Marvin Martin, who has played 9 times for France with two goals, and previously had 10 appearances in the France U21 team.

And he seemed to be the player to replace Cabaye in the French side, when the Newcastle midfielder was withdrawn in the second half of the French games over the last year, and he is an attacking central midfielder like Yohan.

If  Sochaux do get relegated then it could be that Martin will be available in a cut-price deal,  and of course Newcastle are always on the look-out for a good deal,  and he would fit right in on Tyneside, with the rest of the French contingent currently at the club.

Marvin has been at Sochaux all his career and started at their Youth Academy, and he made his first team debut in August of 2008, when he was 20, and appeared as a substitute in the 2–1 league defeat to Marseilles.

Since then he has appeared 143 times for Sochaux, with 11 goals and 30 assists and he made his senior international debut in June of 2010 in the team’s friendly match against the Ukraine, when he appeared as a second half substitute in the 1-1 draw.

The Paris-born player stands 5’7″ tall and is right footed, and a very skillful player.  Sochaux are bottom of the French league with 33 points from 35 games, and are 2 points from safety and they have 3 games to play – although that’s really 3 points from safety because of their poor goal difference of -24.

At the time of writing this article, Sochaux are drawing 0-0 at half time, in their home game with AS Nancy Lorraine, in what is a full fixture list tonight in the French league.

But play-maker Marvin Martin is banned from playing, after collecting three yellow cards in fewer than 10 games.

That will not help Sochaux tonight.

What do you think?

Here’s some video of the play-maker

I agree, he would definitely be a great addition but can’t see it. Having said that I was shocked when we got Ben Arfa so never say never…

I was always surprised by how we hadn’t been linked with him seeing as we’ve been linked with everyone else in Ligue 1. Good player though. I’d like to see him signed but doubt it’ll happen

I’m doing Rennes-Montpellier world feed in an hour. #AFC fans might wanna tune in. Both captains, M’Vila and Yanga-Mbiwa, on Arsene’s radar

Hehe, so great we have niafron eh 😉
I watched Boudebouz a bit last year, and then i heard we were linked with him in the summer. I think he can be as popular with other clubs as Martin is tbh.
He’s a flippin magician if u ask me. He’s one of this summers wet dreams for me.
And u’re right, our RW is weak. Raylor and Obertan are the only naturals. Hopefully Ober is a changed man next season, but i wouldn’t bet on it. Raylor has got a great foot, but thats it. HBA is left footed really, but for me he’s not a winger, he’s a nr 10.
On LW we’re covered with Marv, Jonas, Sammy and also Fergy if needed.

Looking at the training vids etc. I’d say Abeid is Ben Arfa’s understudy. Looks to be gaining similar ball control and skill style. Give him time, he’ll probably come good next season.

Can’t wait to see what Sammy gets up to next year an’ all!
Used to go to school with him. Great kid. Great footballer (although we were all crap).

Would rather have a Leroy Fer type all-action juggernaut in there with Tiote and Cabaye, just a personal preference. Plays similarly to Yaya Toure, very good with the ball and deceptively quick, has scored a few belters to date too. Nicknamed ‘The Bouncer’ due to his sheer power and presence.

Of course we’ll sign none of these players. Rather relative unknowns. Why? Low profile players attract low prices and wages.

That said I’m sure we’re in with a shout for the free transfers, and with being in Europe we may stand half a chance.

I can see somebody like PSG coming in for him with a big money offer but on a cheap then definately yes but still my must buys for summer are:
    RB: Gregory Van Der Wiel
    LB: Ezekiel Fryers
    CB: Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa
    CM: Moussa Sissoko
    WF: Junior Hoilett
    CF: Jay Rodriguez

Ofcourse there are others but i think we need 6 players like these (maybe 8 e.g. another CAM like Maher, Elm, Martin or Butterfield +CF like 1 of the de Jongs or Rhodes but the 6 will do)to take us to the next level + add some quality youngsters for the future and we’ll be in business
SELL: Simpson, Smith, Ranger, Lovenkrands, Kadar, Guthrie, Best, Forster and Xisco

Is there any player you guys would take from relegated teams (EPL)? I know somebody might think that we, as a top 6 club should be aiming a bit higher than trying to get players from relegated teams, but IMO there are still couple of players who could be useful for us, especially when we are playing nearly 50 games next season…

    Wolves: –

Blackburn: Ruben Rochina and Hoilett. I know lots of people would fancy Hoilett but Rochina is tremendous prospect aswell. Yes he’s been very inconsistent this season but has hell of a potential, and I believe Pardew might get the best out of him. Can play either wing and upfront, just like Hoilett. Rochina is only 21 years old, think he would be available for 2 or 3 million. Martin Olsson maybe? I think he’s better than Pieters, strong as bull and good going forward.

Wigan: Possibly Moses, if we decided not go after Rochina or Hoilett.

Bolton: Mark Davies if/when Guthrie leaves.

    QPR: –

So I think there is 4-5 players who could be useful for us, and those are players of good quality and wouldn’t break the bank. Still, after those players we’d need 1 more player, who should be the “major signing”; CB. Centerback must be priority this summer, Toby Alderweireld sounds very good and is as good as Vertonghen and I think we have more chances getting him than Vert. Also a new goalkeeper might come under consideration if we lose Forster, I hope he comes back because he could be very good backup for Krul. But I think he wants playing time so it is looking that he will finally leave permanently.

What do you think? I think the lists under are realistic, because we won’t splash the cash, especially if we don’t get into CL.

    cb: Toby Alderweireld ~ 7 M
    lb: Martin Olsson ~ 4 M
    cm: Mark Davies ~ 3 M
    rw: Junior Hoilett & Ruben Rochina ~ 3 M

I think if he is available for a cut price deal as you say, then we would be stupid to not throw our hat into the ring, however, I agree that a moneybags team with CL credentials (we don’t quite qualify… yet) will snag him. Excellent little player though.

junior hoilett is a left winger, and id rather have him on the left

as much as iv liked HBA on the right, id rather he started on the left, spent more time on the left , we still seem to play more football down the left

In Marketing perspective, we should sign Lee Chung-Yong from Bolton.

N’zonzi’s been pretty poor this season, but has ablities to be a top player. Might be a good buy aswell…

Diame? He cant even get to the starting lineup at Wigan, somethings wrong there…. Agree that he has scored couple of nice goals this season, but honestly I can’t understand why so many people would want him; just because his contract is running up? Maybe as a backup, yes.

Jarvis? Same as Diame, nothing more than backup player for us imo, wouldn’t say they would improve our squad.

    Only my opinions.. 🙂

Not quite relegation, but I’d take agbonlahor from villa. He would be deadly up front with our lot, bags of pace and quite a shooter. He would flourish in our confident side. I think he’s 25\26

Blackburn Wigan match is nothing but high class glad I have tuned into such a wonderful event….yawn

On topic would love it if we got him LOVE IT but doubt it, I reckon he will leave his current club regardless of them getting relegated and I doubt the price tag will change much but if we could get him we should

Has he actually been linked with us again though or is this just Ed’s opinion?
