French International – We Gave It Everything We Had On Sunday

Newcastle lost 2-0 on Sunday to Manchester City but they are still in 5th position, one point behind Tottenham and 2 points behind Arsenal with one game to go.

Yohan Cabaye challenges Carlos Tevez on Sunday

So although Sunday’s result was a disappointment, a big disappointment, the display was not and Newcastle showed they can play very solidly when they have to, and the 15 clean sheets this season is testament to that.

But City were just that little bit better over the last 30 minutes, when it really counted and got all 3 points.

Newcastle must now go to Everton on Sunday and try to get 3 points in what is always a difficult place to go, but we have to hope that Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba are in goal scoring form next Sunday, and then anything is still possible.

Yohan Cabaye has had an excellent first season in the Premier League and he has turned out to be a terrific buy for the club.

The French International knows that Newcastle must now take the 3 points at Goodison Park:

“‘It’s going to be a difficult match against Everton. We knew even if we won against Manchester City, we would have to win at Everton.”

It’s been a very, very good season no matter what. We’ve played brilliantly again against Man City.”  “There were 52,000 fans supporting us.”

They’re there every weekend, so we really have to play for the supporters. We must give everything. It’s been a great season.”

“There’s one match left, and we must try our hardest to try and get as high up the table as we can.”  “It wasn’t enough in the end.”

“We tried everything, and although we lost, we weren’t disappointed with the performance. We gave everything.”

Some fans were critical of Alan Pardew’s tactics on Sunday, but you have to realize that Man City had some top players out there, and they are in form when it matters, so just holding that side for 70 minutes was an accomplishment for our lads.

Newcastle can still finish anywhere from 3rd place to 6th place,  but we are hoping that Liverpool can wake up and beat Chelsea at Anfield today.

If they can do that,  then Newcastle are least guaranteed 5th place, and that would presumably  mean we go straight into the Europa League group stages.

I’d hate to be a Liverpool fan right now, since they have massively under-performed this season, and on the other hand Newcastle have massively over-performed.

But Newcastle must now keep that up, and that’s why we think we’ll see yet another good transfer season for Newcastle in the summer.

Newcastle are definitely on their way back to the big time – no doubt about that.

We love it and we’re very proud of our team.

Amazing to think we can still make 3rd. All the pressure is on Spurs and Arsenal.

I couldn’t criticise the players for man city game because three days earlier they had knacked themselves out against chelski. No bad tactics, just got tired at the end, it was always an uphill struggle againt a team of that cost and quality.

I think we might win against everton but for once I doubt the results will go our way, at least in the arsenal game. But like I say, I don’t really care now – job done, well done the lads!

Lets just win against Everton. That is the only thing we can do something about. The rest – whatever happens, happens.

Tsunki @ 3 – I agree with our comment whole heartedly. The pressure we applied on Chelsea players must have made us tired, and City were fully rested and had more preparation.

Morning All…Well, we have one more week of discussing what we can achieve this season and then I guess it’s on to transfers, speculation and the Euros (oh that’ll be fun no doubt).

Watched the game on Sunday and I was proud of the performance. Thought we put in a good effort, but not break taking. Kind of missed that magic spark going forward. As Tsunki said above, they put in a hell of a performance against Chelsea, which tbh, was our more important game as they’re (or were?) our direct competition.

So all we can hope for now is that Liverpool win tonight (god that unsettled the stomach) and that we get the job done at Everton (I suppose we can hope for Spurs and Arsenal to self implode too, but that may be a tad too much).

What a season, what a team, what a manager. HWTL!

the article is phrased like Roman Amalfitano is a completed deal. But our club has yet to confirm it?

Carr and Co are going to have to have done their homework this year. Every club and their mother will have seen what we’ve achieved with our shrewd but amazing buys and will try and emulate us (or follow our every move). I don’t expect anything to be out in the public domain with regards to who we’re after. Looking forward to lots of new pictures of quality players in the black and white – and seeing them tear other teams apart next season of course 🙂
