Magpies Target – Newcastle Play Good Football

Jan Vertonghen has at least mentioned Newcastle in an interview he has recently given to NUsport.

Jan Vertonghemn – Newcastle play good football

In an interview with  NUsport Jan has said there are more clubs than just Tottenham Hotspur after his services in the summer, and he mentions both Arsenal and Newcastle United as other clubs interested.

We know Arsenal are interested, and by the looks of the Arsenal defense this season, they need him badly, but Newcastle have also been linked with the player several times.

And with the heroics of Newcastle this season, and their fantastic world-renowned fan base, Newcastle must be an attractive club for any player to join at the moment.

And yes, maybe there’s just a little hint of bias there. 😀

In a recent interview with Dutch website NUsport,  this is what the 6’3″ 36 times capped Belgium International center-back had to say:

“I have a choice. There’s something happening with Tottenham, but there are other clubs interested.”

“In England, there is a growing realisation that you can go far with good football. Arsenal started it and now you also see clubs like Newcastle United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur playing good football”

“For me, it is important to get regular playing time. I also need a stable club”

Yes, we know  he says that Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City play some good football too.

That’s an interesting comment about wanting regular football, and he could get that at Newcastle, so we wonder if he’s really thinking of joining Newcastle.

He could be just £7M in the transfer market,  because he has only one year left on his contract at Ajax, and he will definitely move in the summer.

But Jan also talks about wanting Champions League Football :

“The Champions League, I really do not like to miss that. The semi-finals gave me goosebumps. That you weigh all of them and decide about your future.”

It would be a coup if this lad signs for Newcastle, and while we have other good center-backs lined up, he may be Newcastle’s first choice – if we can get him.

Jan has played 213 times for Ajax with 27 goals.

Comments welcome.

The difference between Champions league and Europa league is astonishing. Top prize of just £3 million in Europa. I’m sure you get similar to that for the FA cup?!

I want Liverpool to lose tonight because Everton’s target now for the season must be to finish above Liverpool. So if Liverpool loose then Everton go into the Newcastle game with nothing to play for!

Tiote – If they are it would cost them and they have more money than Liverpool…..I dont think it would happen personally, even though I understand many will be admiring him.

Surely just linked as he scored a wonder goal against Chelsea, whose ex-manager is at Real

Lewspi – Depends how much, huge discount needed as he hasn’t shown the form he did for his previous club. Also, I think they could get so much more money for Europa if they marketed the competition properly. Shame really as it just helps the ‘big’ clubs more as they usually get CL money.

Peter Beardsley is that lose or loose!!! Not just you, everyone seems to spell it ”loose”

Last home game of the season Everton will want to sign off well regardless, plus if Chelse beat them , they can still overtake us for 5th place, ie more prize money for a higher finish.

I couldn’t bear to watch on Sunday but I see some people criticised the tactics. Did we not play 433 which won us 6 on the bounce or did we go 442 which worked on Chelsea’s small ground?

May aswell forget about Vertonghen lads. Came out via sky sports this morning that he is vying for a transfer to spurs and he wants it done sooner rather than later. As I read it, it’s that spuds have offered big bucks to both Ajax and the player himself. He wants to move early in the transfer window and have a full pre season.

Time to move on Ed and now we look for CB’s who WANT to wear the black and white and not purely for financial reasons.

My top target is Mbiwa!! Would love that boy at the toon!

Rotonda – every stat I see on pitch sizes shows we have the same size pitch give or take a yard…….please tell me if you know different.

Rotonda – While you are busy looking through a number of stats in the hope it supports what you say………if both pitches are the same size, is it that strange to stick with a 442 that saw us beat Chelsea. Remembering they set up in a similar fashion to City.

Chill, I was just asking the question mate. Some people say Chelsea’s pitch is smaller and suited 442 better. I just wondered what system we played on Sunday. 442 worked against Man U and Chelsea and 433 worked on our record 6 match winning streak. I don’t know what your issue is?

It’s a shame about Vetonghen. However, if we beat Everton and Spurs draw, he might change his mind and come to us. Nevertheless, we should sign Mbiwa and Alderewield if the move for Jan doesn’t materialise. I’d also sign:

    Marvin Martin
    Boudebouz
    Hoilett
    Moses
    Diame
    Aly Cissokho
    Giroud
    Jay Rodriguez

Plus plenty of development players like:

    Almanfitano
    Mbaye Niang

If results go as you say and he opts for us we should tell him to take a hike as he is then obviously not interested in which club but just which deal, so wrong attitude.
