Yohan Cabaye Would Have Been Aston Villa Player – Houllier

The Newcastle Journal have a good interview with former Liverpool and France manager Gerard Houllier today.

Yohan Cabaye – big success at Newcastle

Gerard had a rough time of things at Aston Villa last year, and after he had some heart problems he left the club by mutual consent, but the side had not done well under his stewardship,  and many first team players has been left in the cold by the Frenchm,an.

And he makes some interesting comments about Yohan Cabaye, whom he seems to have targeted for last last summer, but of course he was not the Villa manager when the summer rolled around.

But it could well be he could have stolen a march on Newcastle for the French International, who has been in excellent form for the Magpies this season, and was a steal at only €5M from French Champions Lille.

This is what Gerard said about Cabaye:

“Yohan would have been at Aston Villa if I had stayed there,”   “Newcastle made a great signing there because he has settled really well into the English game. He has such a wide range of passing – he can pass short, he can pass long.”

“And he can take free-kicks as well as scoring goals. He gets into the box very well and he is complementary to the rest of the Newcastle midfield.”

This will be interesting news to Aston Villa fans, who have had to put up with a rough campaign under new manager Alex McLeish, and Villa stand in 16th position and only 38 points, after going their last 9 games without a win,  and only 5 points.

And we’re sure Villa fans will be delighted that Alex has said the player to turn around the Villa fortunes, is Wolves midfielder Karl Henry.

We’re not sure that McLeish will survive the summer, and it could well be that Aston Villa’s American owner Randy Lerner again goes after Wigan’s top young manager – Roberto Martinez.

And of course Yohan Cabaye is a top Newcastle player these days, playing for a Newcastle side which has surged back to the big time this season.

Comments welcome.

Cabaye wanted to come here and he did. There is no need of distraction from papers before the last game of the season.

    Especially for you, Indian…. 🙂

    NUFC_Stats ? @NUFC_Stats
Shola’s 199 mins per assist domestically is better than Iniesta (206), Fabregas (242) & Ronaldo (272). Messi is 198

Indian…Rise above it mate. Prove people wrong and post something of relevance and you wont give people too much room to criticize. Just an opinion, not having a crack at you

As for the Cabaye story…hardly unsettling is it? Could of been at Aston Villa? Lol, hardly a missed opportunity or something that will turn his head

Cabaye Himself Said that there were preliminary talks with Villa. However i do not know how much Villa would have paid for cabaye’s services

So, apparently Guthrie and Best could wind up at Villa? Wouldn’t put it past Simpson doing the same too. Villa will be to us, what Sunderland are to Man U – a B team – muahahahamuahahahah!

Indian….Ever heard the expression “when you’re in a hole, stop digging”?

I have no issue with your posts most of the time, but posts along the lines of “shola is crap” is not relevant on an almost daily basis, is it? Please don’t come back with an argument along the lines of “well shola is crap everyday”.

I think had Houllier stayed in charge at Villa Cabs would have been there rather than here tbh which would have been a huge shame. He wouldn’t of had the impact on the league that he has done with us.

Cracking player and hopefully will stay with us for a long long time

If NUFC stats tweeted that then it will be right. To be fair though, Shola has looked cracking when he comes on for the last 15 minutes. He is an absolute beast. Had to laugh when Ivanovic was bullying Demba at Chelsea last week, then Shola came on and dumped him on his ar5e!!

The look on his face was priceless!! This role of coming on with 15 to go is perfect for the big fella.

Seems every pundit and their mother has us down for a loss this weekend. Mind you, they’re predicting upsets in either the Spurs or Arsenal game too. Are Everton missing any key players? Not saying we need a weakened Everton to win, just wondering 🙂

Ibiza – spot on there. It’s the repetitive stuff that grates on people. Constant player bashing. Mind, it’s definitely not as bad as it used to be on here a few months ago.

Obviously Shola isn’t the one they need, but BArca could do with a monster striker. When they need to chase games a bit. They had no plan b against Chelsea and they were punished. All they need is 1 or 2 very powerful players to give themselves a different option.

Sirtoon….the whole attitude of the blog is much better than a few months ago, which is about right, seeing as NUFC matters are a hell of a lot rosier these days.

If someone is performing badly, we should be able to discuss it without a backlash from other fans, but Shola has found a perfect role at the club as the super sub. I think he’s done really well and is a toon man through and through and deserves some respect as do the posters on the site

Baines is out for Everton, so HBA will be up against the cumbersome klutz Distin, Neville missed their previous game, with the average Hibbert replacing him at RB, also Heitinga never convinces me when I see him. Can see our trio having a lot of fun! 1-3 The Toon it shall be!
