  • 2 catchy in norway // May 13, 2012 at 5:25 PM

    then krul

  • 3 Vask // May 13, 2012 at 5:28 PM

I went with Marveaux simply because he barely put a foot wrong, his distribution and vision look excellent. Can’t wait to see him in action next year.

  • 4 check the toastie // May 13, 2012 at 5:28 PM

Think Cahill fancied beating Cabaye up for pushing the young ball boy, the whistle had been blown for full time, fair play in a way, cabaye was out of order, cahill wud have been lynched if he had done that at St James.

  • 5 catchy in norway // May 13, 2012 at 5:29 PM

    vask

what a player he could be for us next year,, :) )))

  • 6 davybtoon // May 13, 2012 at 5:30 PM

Marveux he was brilliant in 45 mins no one turned up first half so u can only judge on the 2nd half, gonna b a player for us next season

  • 7 check the toastie // May 13, 2012 at 5:30 PM

i agree vask the boy looks a player. Hope pardew doesnt get him constantly playing full back ala Benny.

This might be controversial but if we can get more than 10 million for Ba he should be sold, over acheieved early season for me, wud even swap him for Judas.

  • 8 catchy in norway // May 13, 2012 at 5:31 PM

    chck

was that what he was going off it for..?

yes what cabaye was wrong,, but he did go and say sorry to the kid,, , it dont excuse what he did, but cahill was out of order for doing it then

  • 9 davybtoon // May 13, 2012 at 5:32 PM

Not really bothered by the result today I would of only been unhappy if spurs or arsenal had cocked up

    5th is amazing

  • 10 tarie4 // May 13, 2012 at 5:33 PM

    easy choice
marveaux by a mile, his vision, composure and distribution, top notch.. dnt think he gave the ball away at all… massive player for us next season, lets hope he stays fit..

  • 11 catchy in norway // May 13, 2012 at 5:34 PM

    davybtoon
    agreed, :)

i guess if one of the other 2 had slipped up, then maybe, but i guess we just refrlect on what a great season we have had, , hope not many of top boys get sold on, and hope good players are brought in to push on next year

  • 12 tonynufc // May 13, 2012 at 5:36 PM

So does this mean we want chelsea to win so we can go straight to group stages

  • 13 check the toastie // May 13, 2012 at 5:38 PM

catchy – just assuming that was it, nothing happened on the pitch so i imagine it was pre-meditated and Moyes didnt even seem bothered, i imagine moyes doesnt give a sh1t because cahill is probably leaving the club at the end of the season, think cahill took one for the club, pretty much dont come into our patch and rough up 10 year olds, fair enough.

It was probably cahills last game and probably thought he wud leave a legacy, he has been some player for them i must say, hope cabaye does as much for us as he has for them.

  • 14 davybtoon // May 13, 2012 at 5:40 PM

Amazing season n if we had 4/5 real quality without really losing anyone we will b even better next season

  • 15 JAMSHA // May 13, 2012 at 5:43 PM

without football for 3-4 months dont know how im gona survive

  • 16 check the toastie // May 13, 2012 at 5:44 PM

Players we must not lose in the summer – Krul-Collocini-Santon-Tiote-Cabaye-Ben Arfa-Cisse, if these guys remain at the club for next year we will again have a great season.

Wud sacrifice Ba if it meant keeping the rest, there is no point in keeping him to keep Cisse happy as currently he is actually getting in his way on the pitch, and if Cisse carries on scoring goals he will move on at the end of next year for mega money. having our 2 main strikers leave every jan for ACON is ridiculous as well by the way.

  • 18 santoooooooooon // May 13, 2012 at 5:45 PM

Marveaux looks like a proper player, he can play cm, lm and lw so versatile too… Better than Jonas by a mile

Thought Williamson looked terrible against a very good Jelavic, he showed Coloccini up a bit aswell…

Europa League! Lets win that ;) then beat Real Madrid in the super cup next summer!

  • 19 JAMSHA // May 13, 2012 at 5:45 PM

what if chelshit win cl ? does 5th team gets group stage? or play of?

  • 20 SmileyFace // May 13, 2012 at 5:48 PM

Just think how good Marveux could be after a full pre seasons and match fitness !!

Was a good game at Everton, shame about the result, but i do think some of our team were on a beach in spain ! Bring on next season and some European Nights !!!

  • 21 JAMSHA // May 13, 2012 at 5:48 PM

nufc786 can you give me the link?

  • 22 Crawfordladd17 // May 13, 2012 at 5:49 PM

The result didnt matter we still would of came 5th, but I take 5th, infact at the start of the season I said 8th min, 6th at max, but I am a happy ladd, also hate to say it I thought we would have a bad start, sack Alan Pardew appoint Lambert/Martinez

  • 23 JAMSHA // May 13, 2012 at 5:49 PM

watchn ever vs new delay :-(

  • 24 JP...from The Rock // May 13, 2012 at 5:50 PM

Marveaux by a mile-from our side of course. Well we ended 5th and what an amazing achievement. My dream signing this summer would be Marvin Martin and for our defenders Mbiwa / Douglas, then I don’t care who else comes. If we get those I believe we will have enough to challenge the top 4 again big time, obviously if no starters are sold apart from Simpson.

We’re on the up and I can’t wait for more

  • 25 ToonDownSouth // May 13, 2012 at 5:52 PM

Why does everyone keep saying -

“If we don’t sell any big players….”

We have been told, about 20 times, that we will.

  • 26 ryan_toon // May 13, 2012 at 5:53 PM

Hey all! Amazing season still, regardless of tonights score. Anyways just wondering, if chelsea win the champions league, do tottenham get the automatic spot for europa league instead of newcastle?

  • 27 Beattie25 // May 13, 2012 at 5:55 PM

At the beginning of Feburary I couldn’t imagine life without Ba in the starting 11 now I’m starting to think it is the only way forward.

    Is that mad?

  • 28 santoooooooooon // May 13, 2012 at 5:56 PM

    Krul/Forster

    NEW RB/R.Taylor
    NEW CB/Williamson
    Colo/STaylor
    Santon/Jonas
    Tiote/Perch
    Cabaye/NEW CM
    Ben Arfa/NEW RM
    Marveaux/Fergie
    Cisse/New ST
    Ba/Shola

Deffo need new full back either side as santon can switch, need new CB too, vertonghen probably wont come now :(
I hope they try and strengthen the first team too and not just replace or add in reserve, as sometimes we have not been good enough and just lacking a bit…

But good season lads, lets kick on! In Pards we trust!

  • 29 supatoonkid // May 13, 2012 at 5:57 PM

Marveaux gets my vote; great vision, passing/crossing and general skill & awareness also very versatile, for sure will be a quality player next season so hopefully can stay fit. Jonas played well and tried very hard as usual but apart from that the team looked flat maybe Cabaye & Krul deserve a mention as they played better than the rest. Oh well we never win the last game of the season so it was to be expected, howay European football next season anyway.

  • 30 MagpiesFlyHigh // May 13, 2012 at 5:57 PM

couldn’t get anything to stream at all today so missed the game. Also internet went down just as Citeh got into extra time so a frustrating afternoon. Glad Manure didn’t scrape it
Sounds like Marv is going to be another Benny… How about Marv HBA and Cisse as one front 3 option with Ba centring another front 3 ?

  • 31 ToonDownSouth // May 13, 2012 at 5:59 PM

I always defend his corner, but Pardew got his tactics wrong today. If ever there was a game to play 4-3-3, with the ball on the deck, it was today. I appreciate sometimes there is a need for long balls, but it wasn’t today.

No one has picked up on it either, but Perch was very poor today. Williamson and Perch are both so uncomfortable with the ball at their feet.

  • 32 Beattie25 // May 13, 2012 at 5:59 PM

Has anybody heard out from Pards after the game?

I’d like to hear what he had to say.

  • 33 santoooooooooon // May 13, 2012 at 6:01 PM

Perch not a RB, much better as cover for CDM and can usually get away with playing at RB but not today…

  • 34 Beattie25 // May 13, 2012 at 6:03 PM

    TDS

Agree. We went for solidness and grit when we needed flair and skill.

Pardew got his tactics wrong but the players he picked were awful in that first half and yes that includes Perch.

Overall it was an indication that we cannot rest on our laurels for next year and we need to add some major quality at CB and RB.

Also Tiote and Cabaye in a 4-4-2 has not worked at all this season and both are better suited to a 3 man centre midfield trio!!

Anyway great season and I hope this is the start and not a peak.

  • 35 Vask // May 13, 2012 at 6:05 PM

TDS Perch looked alright towards the end of the first half with a lovely little disguised pass into Gutierrez, if it was Benny the end product may have been different. I agree with the critique of the 442 we play much more attractive football in the 433 system. I think thats why the first half was dire, nobody seemed to know where anyone else was.

  • 36 Tiote // May 13, 2012 at 6:07 PM

Has this site changed over nite? Or is it just my useless iPhone on mobile mode.

  • 37 supatoonkid // May 13, 2012 at 6:07 PM

Right now we’re in the Europa League got to be realistic with who we’ll bring in so if all the lads we think will go go e.g. Simmo, Best, Guthrie + the fringe players (excluding Ba as i can only see him leaving for PSG) then this is who we need to sign:
CB: Douglas or Mbiwa (prefer Mbiwa but both are TANKS just Mbiwa is more versatile)
RB: Debuchy (Simmo’s much better replacement)
LB: Fryers (give back up to Santon)
CDM: Leroy Fer (back up for Tiote or straight up replacement if the Tiote does leave but don’t think he will)
CAM: Marvin Martin or Rasmus Elm (need a set piece specialist, not dissing Raylor, Benny or Cabaye but they’re a bit 50/50; preferably Martin as his overall game is better)
Wing Forward: Junior Hoilett, Elijero Elia or Wilfried Zaha (all quality players so any would be welcome but Hoilett on a free is a superb deal)
Centre Forward: Jay Rodriguez or Jordan Rhodes (need somebody to come in when Ba & Cisse are at ACON but if Ba or Cisse leave sign up Luuk de Jong as well).

    Opinions?

  • 38 Crawfordladd17 // May 13, 2012 at 6:08 PM

I think we missed out for 2 reasons
In some games Our defending was sh*te
In other games we weren’t at it for a 45mins-hour Sunderland Wolves at home, and Fulham away spring to mind

We need a centre back, not Williamson and Perch as our main back up. We need as Pardew said a tall strong centre back which I think straight away “DOUGLAS”

A Full back preferly left because Simpson, Perch & Santon main positions is right, but they can play left back, but if we want top 4 we can’t have Perch and Simpson as the starting Right backs. I think Pieters or if the right Dehucy from Lille

A Centre Midfielder, Jonas is not one he is a good player, but at times he is awful. Martin, or maybe a Premier League player playing at a lesser club like Joe Allen, N’Zonzi or McCarthy from Wigan

A Winger like Hoilett free, young like 21 or 22. Also we could make £15m from him.

A Striker once Cisse, and Ba are away to Africa then we only have Shola and he might be away to Africa to depends if he plays for Nigeria. Rodiquez from Burnley

  • 39 ToonDownSouth // May 13, 2012 at 6:08 PM

Fair play to him for being bold at half time – we had 4 wingers on the pitch, and 0 full backs. But it was all or nothing, so I guess he didn’t really have a choice.

We were a little unfortunate, seeing as Jelavic’s goal was a hand ball, and Heitinga should have been sent off after 5 minutes.

    But we deserved nothing.

A front 3 of Marveaux – Cisse – Hatem could be very very exciting, but it relies on Marveaux and Hatem contributing enough goals. We can’t keep relying on 1 striker.

  • 40 Jonny // May 13, 2012 at 6:09 PM

So when we go 4-3-3 we have 60 per cent of possession? C’mon Pardrew, 4-4-2 doesn’t work. Marveaux motm without a shadow of a doubt. Lost a bit of respect for Cabaye today as swell.

  • 41 Toon-Barmy // May 13, 2012 at 6:10 PM

Fifth place, an amazing achievement in my opinion.
    Well done lads!

Am I right in thinking we qualify for the Europa League Play-Off/4th qualifying round?
First leg to be played 23rd August 2012.

How’s everyone missed Carroll’s “tango” with Ash Williams, could of been sent off too if it wasnt hilarious the way they both ended up on the deck :-)

  • 46 syamantakb // May 13, 2012 at 6:22 PM

we must not sell best…ba has had the best moments with best who plays the ball to him more often…and was good while playing on the left hand side before he got injured…we should get in another striker to partner cisse or back him up…a new central or defendive mid with play making ability is needed…like diame or leroy fer or blaise matuidi…striker could be siem de jong or bas dost…center back defo needed…tall ball playing type…a right back mayb kelly from fulham or debuchy as one might believe…a goal keeper cover like bogdan…if forster leaves…

  • 47 euanpolo // May 13, 2012 at 6:26 PM

Looks like we’re in the play-off round!

  • 48 toonking // May 13, 2012 at 6:26 PM

no matter what the outcome is with chelsea we still will be in the playoff final for the europa league qualifiers

  • 49 euanpolo // May 13, 2012 at 6:32 PM

The play-offs are seeded I believ so we should avoid the chance of playing some of the bigger names.

  • 50 eaststandgeordie1982 // May 13, 2012 at 6:33 PM

We deffo need a beast at cb all the big boys have one, a quality rb a good dcm and a striker.

  • 51 check the toastie // May 13, 2012 at 6:36 PM

europa play off round is perfect preparation for the start of next season, we will go into next season flying, hope we are brave next year and back our quality, bit concerned we are a bit negative in backing our squad talent at times.

  • 52 check the toastie // May 13, 2012 at 6:38 PM

yep, wouldnt worry about winning our play off game, we should have no problem, looking forward to the draw, might have a little trip away.

  • 53 santoooooooooon // May 13, 2012 at 6:39 PM

We have Krul, Colo, Tiote, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Cisse, Ba, Ben Arfa all internationals and people think we are massively over achieving? 8 good players plus a few good youngsters…

We deserved to finish 5th especially with the way we played 4-3-3. 4-4-2 not so much, more long ball…

To move to the next level we need to play 4-3-3 all of the time or an adaptation of this as it suits our players and it is much more exciting

  • 54 jimmymagpie // May 13, 2012 at 6:55 PM

A bit of a reality check these last 4 games, losing 3 of them whilst conceding 9 goals and Cisse the only scorer, at Chelsea. The same old story at the back, with the 2 centre backs vulnerable to the ball over the top, and extremely vulnerable to the ball in the air across the box. Pardew knows these weaknesses, and hopefully will come up with at least 2 strong, physical, pacey defenders in the summer. We will have the usual rumours and counter rumours now until the new season, but the whispers I am hearing are that the only player Pardew expects to lose from his ‘blue chip’ brigade is Tiote. I presume with the sales of Simpson, Best, and Forster, this will provide the transfer budget, plus the £8m that was already there from not buying a defender in January. I suppose this has to be balanced by the fact that the Cisse money was taken from the summer budget. Anyway, a great season, and Pardew is already saying tonight that there are obvious weaknesses which he hopes to address in the coming transfer window. HTL!

  • 55 rogwalton // May 13, 2012 at 7:18 PM

For me, the season has been an enormous success and way beyond expectations, based on the size of the squad and the amount of financial backing in the transfer market. In the interest of not resting on this season’s laurels, here are my thoughts about how to progress (hopefully into a top 4 side).

We have had 3 stand out comprehensive away defeats in games that were, on the face of it, winnable; Fulham, Wigan and Everton. Having been at Goodison today, it’s clear to me the reason Everton controlled the game was the frequency with which Fellaini (read Dembele, Diame and Toure) won aerial and bouncing balls in our half). I believe that 80-90% of games are won by pressing high up the pitch and winning possession in the opposition’s half. Cabaye and Tiote are superb footballers, but we are in need of a tall, strong, dominant central midfielder to pitch into games like today. I have no problem at all with playing Cabaye and Tiote at home and against teams such as Swansea who don’t have a midfielder in aforesaid mould.

Secondly, I wouldn’t be too bothered if we replaced Demba Ba with someone like Luke De Jong. I don’t think Ba and Cisse compliment each other and we face losing them both for ACN.

    My Wishlist

    In

RB (to GC’s taste) ? Debuchy
LB (Again trust GC to unearth someone)
Santon can play either and with Raylor also, great strenth at fullback
    CB Douglas
CM Dembele from Fulham. Brilliant footballer. Otherwise I’m a huge fan of Huddlestone…wonder if Spurs might let him go.
CF Jordan Rhodes…worth a gamble. Replace Ba with De Jong?

Would also love Hoilett, but think we’ll be priced out

    Out

Simpson. Already going. Poor crosser, but solid defensively
Williamson. His improved reputation IMO is on the back of being carried by Colo during the amazing recent run. He’s slow, positionally naive and gives away far too many fouls after he’s caught on the turn.
Guthrie. Has never been good enough and our profile is certainly big enough to replace him with better.
Lovenkrands. Great servant, but we’ve moved on.
    Smith. Obvious
    Ranger. MUST GO

  • 56 zimtoon // May 13, 2012 at 7:40 PM

Really wonder if some people are truely Newcastle fans judging by the way they criticize and “sell” their players. Strange how all of a sudden people are calling Ba useless and worth selling, its a good thing Pardew sees it diffrently

  • 57 jeraziah // May 13, 2012 at 7:48 PM

Williamson was not good today. We’re going to need a couple of good players coming in during the summer. But still we’re going to play in EL so thats really good for the club.
