I know I posted this on Tuesday -and on the last thread realising there’s a new one after posting.but what is your top 5 results (for us) this season?
Mine are
1) TOON 3-0 Man u ( tortured the champions at the time)
2) Chelsea 0-2 TOON ( best away result, GOTS)
3) Stoke 1-3 TOON (best away performance)
4)TOON 2-0 Bindippers ( humiliated the scousers)
5) mackems 0-1 TOON (Raylor over the wall)
Worst 5?
1)Wigan 4-0 TOON (well beaten by a relegation scrappers)
2) Fulham 5-2 TOON ( 2nd half collapse)
3) Spurs 5-0 TOON ( weakened team, steamrolled)
4) Brighton 1-0 TOON ( does anything need to be said?)
5) TOON 2-3 WBA ( conceded on the break)

It has to be Douglas & mbiwa
4 Tsunki // May 17, 2012 at 5:32 PM
Super Magpie
Best –
After 3-0 against Manu I would put Mackems home 1-1 as it would have killed our season if we had lost imo (it also rid us of brutooon). Then scouse 2-0 (We’re in the top 6) then Chelski (Cisse/assured 5th) and surprise it may be but blackburn in the cup as it heralded the onset of the great HBA.
Worst
Fulham 5-0 defeat from nowhere and by nobody. Next Wigan 4-0 and Everton 3-1 as they combined to banjo our CL hopes. Strangely, mackem home 1-1 again! Why? Should not have looked so confident at our place, they shook us up (thanks though, Shola). Brighton – no need to lose at all, reckless.
5 FatmanJoe // May 17, 2012 at 5:35 PM
Super
They’re the obvious top and bottom five. I’d probably have the Liverpool victory top.
And maybe the west brim victory instead of the Stoke one.
6 JP...from The Rock // May 17, 2012 at 5:38 PM
I voted for Mbiwa and Debuchy.
Mibwa because he’s a strong defender, captain and can ply anywhere along the back 4. Debuchy because he is a quick and talented RB that is good mates with Cabaye so will settle in quickly and he must be very good when we have Arsenal and ManUre as competition for his signature.
Super Magpie – I agree with all your best 5 and most of your worst 5 but I am afraid I’d have to include Liverpool Away as one of the worst performances also, we were woeful that game.

for all his talk of wanting 8-10 goals out of a centre back , i dont think it will be any from that list we will go for
11 LewSpi // May 17, 2012 at 5:47 PM
Debuchy and Alderweireld for me. Don’t mind between Alderweireld and Mbiwa though.
Interesting that Pieters is there, I thought people might have been put off by his constant injuries.
12 ck1978 // May 17, 2012 at 5:49 PM
I voted for Mbiwa and Debuchy but I also think we need another LB to challenge Santon so I would go for Nicolai Boilesen. Get those three along with Remi Streete pushing through and I will be very happy with our defence for the coming campaign. HWTL
13 Troleibusiukas_LTU // May 17, 2012 at 6:08 PM
IMO Rodriguez is much better then Rhodes. We should try to get: 1.Rodriguez, 2. De Jong or Dost, 3. Hoillet or Cabral or Johnson, 4 Martin or Corgnet or Maher or Siem De Jong
5. Debouchy,
6. Mapou if plausible (Pieters or Boisen if not), and 7.quallity defender maybe Alder… what ever he is… That’s my Seven players in. I would make it 8, but diame is african.. (That’s pitty).. Out: Ranger, Loverkrands, Best, Simpson, Guthrie, Smith, Xisco if plausible that 6-7 out. That would beperfect. We could attack all fronts. I know it’s not going to happen, but on the other hand your young prospect will have some chance to step up more. (Fergie, Abeid, Vukcic, Tavernier, Dummet, Streete)
14 supatoonkid // May 17, 2012 at 6:09 PM
Mbiwa & Debuchy the obvious stand out choices for me as they’re both the best options.
Mbiwa’s Attributes: Quick, Strong/Physical, Leader, Versatile, Powerful Header to score & clear
Debuchy: Quick, Consistant unlike Simpson, Good tacker & crosser, Versatile & good mates with Yo.
Alderwereid is also a good option if we miss out on Mbiwa.
Don’t think we need a new LB to compete with Santon as Paul Dummitt is a very good, highly rated player and can provide cover also Jonas, Perch, R. Taylor, Fergie & if we get Mbiwa can provide cover there (Mbiwa started his career as a LB).

Yea, gotta say, I have not seen pieters play well for more than 1 game.
He would get ripped apart every week. Even played c**p against England.
And I’m sure he’s out injured at mo, which might take a bit of extra bedding in and everything.
Massive NO to him but any of the others on the list are welcome
17 croftus5678 // May 17, 2012 at 6:13 PM
i say ask colo as he knows what it takes to be a good defender
i trust whoever carr and pards bring in tbh but a cb is a must and not a utility player we need some1 who knows that possition inside out and can read the game like colo
18 GeordieoftheSouth // May 17, 2012 at 6:13 PM
Debucy and Pieters would be my choice, Debucy to replace Simmo and Pieters as he can play centre half and left back, gives us more options and cover.
Can’t see Willo getting many games next season with Taylor back too but we are going to need him with all the cup games.
19 supatoonkid // May 17, 2012 at 6:14 PM
@Troleibusiukas_LTU your targets are plausable but i doubt we’ll sign 7 players we could sign 6 but i think we’ll sign 5 e.g. Mbiwa, Debuchy, Martin, Rhodes & Hoilett

swansea 0-0
wolves 2-2

I hope the Bindippers get Bruce
but realistacally it’ll be rafa. Bad choice, Kenny’s 2nd coming didn’t go well so rafa could be even worse. What I don’t understand is how Liverpool fans are so devastated that they have sacked dogleash. They’ve had a poor league season and if it was any other manager they’d have been calling for his head before the new year. Typical deluded scousers thinking they have the right to be in the top 4 every year.

I voted for alderweireld and Debuchy, think vertoghnens out of our reach and pieters is too injury prone. M’biwa is on the verge of the title and might want to stay at montpellier, and Douglas dosent impress me. Debuchy is France’s no.1 RB good mates with cabaye, plus we desperately need a new full back. alderweireld because he’s better than Douglas and would cost less than M’biwa

I went for alderweireld and Debuchy as well. Think they would add a lot to the side.
Vertongen would be good but he will end up at a higher level. Yanga-Mbiwa would be good as well.
And I think the liverpool fans are right……Martinez is no where near good enough for liverpool.
He has done well with wigan but not amazing….he has narrowly avoided relegation a few seasons in a row, that is nothing special.

And Martinez is doomed to fail.
If you don’t have the backing of fans and go to a club with huge expectations a few bad results and you are gone.
You need a big manager……the best option I can see was Klop from Dortmund. He has transformed that team. He has built a strong team with a lot of youth.
Martinez will not last longer than Christmas.

Martinez is a Brilliant manger, but Liverpool is a step to soon, his next step from Wigan should be the likes of us, Fulham, Everton etc, as I have said before, there is a difference from losing 3 and drawing 4 in a row at Wigan than at Liverpool, doglesh came 8th and reached 2 finals, winning one, and the team is back in Europe.. And he got sacked..these owners mean business..and if Martinez doesn’t deliver (which I think he will struggle too) he is gone, so for once I agree with the scouser’s, Martinez is not the man yet…he will be, but not now..

We need to buy 3 Top Top players and 2 potentials.
We’re at the level now that we have a good core of players and to get to the next level you need to add that bit of extra quality.
No good going into this summer and adding 3 or 4 could be goods.
This is the ideal opportunity to really push for the next level.
Players like Hazard and Vertonghen fit the bill, we may not get them but thats the level we should be looking at.

Really hope Liverpool appoint Martinez, although I’d think he’d be good for them in the long term, the bin dippers won’t give him ten minutes if he loses 2 on the trot. I hate to compare it ourselves but we weren’t the most patient with guys after legends, Souness after Sir Bobby, Daglish (ironically enough) after King Kev. Don’t see him lasting the year if results slip.
Remember these owners are demanding top 4 and can you see them overhauling two of Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and ourselves? They might spend some more serious money but that would Leeds style all in if it backfires, with FFP there won’t be a chance in hell they’d be allowed in Europe after two £100m spending summers.

Dont make me laugh lads….lets be realistic here, in terms of budget, success, and attracting players Liverpool is a bigger club than us.. Just coz we finished above them dnt make us a bigger club, using ur logic we are bigger club than Chelsea too…
also this is the 1st season since something like 2005-6 that Everton have finished above Everton, last season they finishes 7 above Fulham, the previous one before that 7th or sixth, so dnt compare them to Fulham and Everton..
Lets face facts, Liverpool are a bigger club than use..FACT.. I hate them as much as most people here, bit that is the truth..
And in my point, what I meant is that if Martinez where to come to us, Fulham etc, he would be given time, wereas at Liverpool he won’t… That is what I meant.

81 rich_toonfan // May 17, 2012 at 7:48 PM

I am no saying they do not having the backing.
They might consider kicking barcelona, city etc out for footballing reasons….
…but then when the main sponsors decide not to back the tournament anymore it wont last.
Might see a mid sized club (possibly city) out for one year then UEFA will fold.
Cant see it happening…..at the end of the day, money talks.

I think all of them would be an improvement on the team as it stands now. As we know, a lot will depend on their nature and how they are as people so they can slot into the collective.
I also think signing friends of some of our star players is a very wise decision. As long as they are good enough and can improve the 1st team, I’m all in for that! It creates a further strong bond to our club.
Also… I hope the prayer room also gets done quick sharp!
Good vibes and happy kama = top 4 contenders on a regular basis

Vertoghen n alderweild of got to b the first choices u jus hav to look at how there fellow countryman kompany n vermalen hav coped in the prem
95 MagPieMan // May 17, 2012 at 8:30 PM
If what ED has written is right and Douglas and Alderwield would both cost around four mill who would you get?
I would go for Alderwield. He is a very good at defending (nearly as good as Vertonghen), decent pace, rocket of a left foot and his passing is immense. He has better passing ability than most of our team, and he’s a centre back!.
Out of the list ED has put up I want us to bring in Alderwield and Debuchy. Alderwiled for the reasons above and Debuchy because he is reliable, consistent and good mates with Cabaye.
96 davybtoon // May 17, 2012 at 8:34 PM
Alderweild has to b no1 choice as vertoghen will go somewhere else, his passing n defending is amazing n what a shot he has on him, can see Douglas ending up at Ajax as replacement for there two cbs

@ 95 Pretty sure Alderweireld is rightfooted.
And I don’t think he’ll be this cheap. Ajax will want more for him.
99 MagPieMan // May 17, 2012 at 8:50 PM
98 sorry, my bad.
What a right foot he has on him.
100 Ketsbaia9 // May 17, 2012 at 8:52 PM
Why isn’t Cissokho on that list. I’m sure we’ll go for him. Out of the 6, I went for Vertonghen and Mbiwa, but realistically It’s looking like Alderewield, Mbiwa and Cissokho. We don’t need Debuchy as we have Raylor and Santon for right-back. We need a left-footed left back and Cissokho fits the bill. Don’t understand how we keep getting linked with Pieters. Mbiwa is more of a Coloccini typed defender and Aldereweild is an exciting attacking centre-back with an eye for a goal (that’s what Pardew wants). We need to at least sign the following players:
Vertonghen or Aldereweild (£7m or £6m)
Cissokho (£6.5m)
Marvin Martin (£8m)
Luuk De Jong or Giroud £9-12m)
We must keep hold of Ba etc.
I also see Hoilett and Diame as sensible free signings.
Jay Rodriguez is a gamble at £8m. Why not make a cheeky bid for Daniel Agger at Liverpool?
So for the first team, I’d like to see 1/2 CB’s, 1 LB, 1AM, 2 Strikers (1 top-class and another promising youngster)
101 pizzicatochan // May 17, 2012 at 9:06 PM
If Santon is playing on the left comfortably, please let it be. He’s been contributing over there too.
Moreover, Debuchy is not just a right back as he can play in the midfield.
102 Spuggy // May 17, 2012 at 9:09 PM
Why do people think all of a sudden we have 30m+ to spend. We’ll be lucky if we spend 15m. Also pardew said 2-3 players coming in (if noone leaves).
To me that is a CB, RB (or LB) and a CF. Danny Guthrie is leaving and probably Danny Simpson. So Guthrie will need replacing unless Amlfitano is slotting in.
103 Jonny // May 17, 2012 at 9:09 PM
Santon——Douglas——Colo——Pieters
Thank you.
104 GeordieToon89 // May 17, 2012 at 9:11 PM
Cant believe Alderweield is at the bottom of that list he’s better than all of them defenders on there, he’s unreal and only 23..
If we sign Brahimi we will NOT sign Martin they both the same type of player.. plus Marvin Martin has said he wants to play Champions League football next season
105 Spuggy // May 17, 2012 at 9:12 PM
I think the top quality players we need for top 6 next year are:
CB to play with Collo (and allow him to rest and play with Saylor)
Fullback in place of Simpson
CM to compete with Jonas
CF to provide depth (eps for ACoN)
106 Ketsbaia9 // May 17, 2012 at 9:14 PM
I still think Martin can be persuaded into signing for us. Aldereweild would be my second choice behind Vertonghen. Can see us spending around £30m.

Have we been linked with Brahimi? I really don’t see the point in us signing Debuchy. Yeah, he might be a good player, but we need a left-footer. Raylor, Saylor, Perch, and Santon can all play at right-back. I wouldn’t rule out Cheick M’Bengue yet. Mauro Zarate would be a good signing and will fit in well with Gutierrez and Coloccini being here. Also, we could do with a Barnetta or Dario Srna typed right-winger.

Ketsbaia9 – Yeah were in advanced talks with Rennes apparently.. Debuchy would be an awesome signing we need quality defenders and he it that.. A do think we need a spare LB but Santon was signed as a LB and ad imagine he’ll stay there and a new poss younger will come in to challenge him but Raylor can play LB if needed.. Hope we dont go after M’Bengue a dont rate him very much and also he’s african so yet another one we would lose… Zarate played well for B’ham when he came to England before but left to go to Lazio and Inter and he’s been pretty poor in Italy, he is more the type of player we need to play off Cisse and can float on the wing and cut inside… Srna is 29 and a RB but a see your point but Debuchy is awesome going forward and also a very good defender.. Barnetta is locked up in the Jesmond Dene hotel and is available on a free transfer now

152 Ketsbaia9 // May 17, 2012 at 10:04 PM
Yep. If you check Santon’s personal website, it says that his preferred position is right-back. We need to make some Medhi Abeid typed signings. Abeid looks a quality player from what I’ve seen. I’d send Gosling out on loan. Not quite sure about him at the moment. The only english players I’d be interested in us signing would be Adam Johnson, Leighton Baines and Micah Richards.

156 GeordieToon89 // May 17, 2012 at 10:10 PM
A dont actually believe we would have a chance for Bojan or afford him for that matter he would cost upwards of £20million easily… a dont understand the contract situation he’s got he signed a 5 year deal with Roma for about £12million which includes options for Barcelona to buy him back this season for £17million or next season for £13million but Roma can stop that agreement and sign him outright for an extra £28million.. All very confusing

KKK is gone so he aint going back there I suppose. Any other European qualifier itching to take him abroad with them? Nope. Have fun Danny, silly silly boy.

Tsunki…He may end up at Liverpool as he’s on a free. Don’t think their owners are going to want to spend much this summer (I think they’ve had quite an outlay already
), so will be looking at all the free options. Guthrie should be able to get in to an ok team and get some cash and more playing time than he has to date. It is a shame though, as you say, he would get more playing time next season with our latest European adventure – Why is it whenever I read that we’re back in Europe I get a big smile on my face?

WWYCD..Absolutely mate.
Does no-one else think Liverpool will be more of a threat next season? I genuinely feel that although they paid stupid amounts for, so far, under performing players, that they will most likely come good. Well, all except bloomin’ Downing. 0 goals, 0 assists, I mean come on now there’s a slow start and just plain useless.
Andy is starting to show glimpses of the player he was at the toon. Let’s not forget, he was a good player and we were all delighted to have him at our club, hence why we were so f*c**d when he jumped ship.
Basically, I don’t see them drifting off in to the lower regions of English football, nor do I see them winning the league. They will however, for now, be one of our realistic competitors. Thoughts? Should I expect the next Ryanair flight to Ibiza to be full of mad Geordies chasing me down?

Ibiza – re-read my post and it doesn’t scan well! Sounds like I am bitter toward Guthrie so I should probably clear that up – Guthrie was an ok player, who at times shone with his workrate but seemed to fade quickly, never looked liek he could last a game out properly. Plus h had an almost luminously white skin tone that made me wonder if he was anaemic! I always have this imag of him running from side to side and not produce much going forwad but maybe when you start to look at a player with a critical eye all you see is flaws. Having said that, he never seemed to get a decent run, and with a team not short of decent midfielders it wasn’t likely to happen, so he hasn’t improved much in the last couple of years. Having said all that, Nect year is going to be busy, and even with a bolstered squad he would have many more runouts than ever before, and no doubt against top class european opposition. He is being short sighted imo, and may be missing the biggest chance of his career to add value, and get a sale fee in the next couple of years, not to mention interest from other european-qualifying clubs. Does anyone think he really will be a first team regular for a top 6 side if he doesn’t fit in at NUFC? Really?

Liverfool, Spuds, Everton, Fulham & Newcastle have all got a chance of making waves depending on the outcome of the summer.
I am forever in OV but I shall say this and i shall say this for free.
If we fail to strengthen adequately then we will struggle next year.
My faith comes in the form of Colo and Krul signing new contracts and I hope they were told about the exciting plans for the Summer and they thought ‘yeah we’re gonna sign!’.

I think Rodwell has fallen dramatically from the limelight, Baines and wannabe Colo could go but both seem to really love the club so who knows
BUT if they keep them and hit form from the off they could fly….specially with that Jelavic who is just behind Cisse in signing of the Jan window.

199 WWYCD // May 17, 2012 at 11:00 PM
Oh something that put a smile on my face Mr Moneybags Owen is soon to be out of a job. Though am sure all Man Utd fans will thank him for his extensive service to their campaigns
200 Tsunki // May 17, 2012 at 11:13 PM
WWYCD – Michael is knuckling down to getting his new brochure ready for deadline day. I think this one comes with a DVD of his best ten 5 minute cameos of the last 2 years. Or is that the only ten? I think if you buy him before the end of June you get a spare replacement knee joint. Bargain
201 Tsunki // May 17, 2012 at 11:20 PM
ok lights out then bye bye all.
202 RonVanDam // May 18, 2012 at 12:24 AM
off topic:
De Jong has far better potential than Ba, he is also four years younger. Regardless of whether Ba stays or goes though, we should sign him. We’ve already got the possibility of losing both Cisse and Ba to ACON, add to that Best and Lovenkrands can leave and that only leaves us with one striker in Ameobi.

Mirror claiming we’re gonna sign clynne
204 out of toon // May 18, 2012 at 2:31 AM
lads just an fyi – hazard has claimed recently he’ll be signing for a manchester team this summer. aabout a month or so ago he said in a interview he’ll definitely be playing in blue next season (getting the chelsea rumour mill ticking)… methink citeh has him wrapped.
I would love to see 3 defenders come in – i voted for vertonghen (even tho he’ll go elsewhere) and debuchy. alderwield would be top class also. douglas good signing regardless. fark – take em all. No goals conceded next season!
205 out of toon // May 18, 2012 at 2:38 AM
citeh bidding 16mil for chiellini
good buy imo
206 Kc-Toon // May 18, 2012 at 2:53 AM
Bound to be a few players seen stretcherd off with chiellini in the prem, Bit of a bruiser to say the least. i reckon, the defender/s we bring in, wont be any of these guys, or any that have been mentioned in newspaper talk, I cant resist talking up possible transfers, but really, theres no point when it comes down to newcastle
207 gonufc (up and Hatem) // May 18, 2012 at 2:56 AM
Can’t say I’m at all sad for Owen.
He has chosen this.
He explicitly stated that he would rather train every day at a big club with big players than play every week with a lesser club. He is a snob and a mercenary.
He doesn’t give a f&*^ about football anymore. He may as well retire to play with his horses- I just desperately hope he doesn’t become a pundit.
Also, just to see what kind of person he is, I always remember that video of him being horrendously pompous and arrogant whilst doing a training thing with a young keeper. Neville Southall is trying to coach the youngster whilst Owen celebrates every goal and acts up for the camera to try to belittle and bully the young kid.
208 LEROI // May 18, 2012 at 2:58 AM
I’m sure Mbiwa wants to stay put in france. So i changed from Debuchy and Mbiwa to Alderwield & Debuchy both want to play in England and are obviously on our shortlist without much opposition from other fricken sneaky transfer raiders like spurts and arseyhoes! I watched that link of Brahimi wow he is a younger right footed Ben Arfa he’s class especially at 22. I dont think we’ll get him for less than 3.5m though he’s to gifted for any team to let him go for less imho.
209 Kc-Toon // May 18, 2012 at 3:04 AM
@Gonufc
Any link to that video pal?
I was told a story of how he was getting work done on his house, basically made the builder bankrupt and drove him to suicicde, Pretty sure most of that story would be BS, but i wouldnt put it far past him
210 LEROI // May 18, 2012 at 3:07 AM
i think Michael Owen will end up at either Everton, Villa or the Makems because in his head he’s to good to join a newly promoted side like reading or the saints and the bigger teams wouldn’t and don’t want him and i also can’t see him traveling further south than brumland it’s to much like hard work for less wages for a pr*ck like him.
211 stretchintoon // May 18, 2012 at 6:42 AM
just wanna say ,Good luck to danny guthrie, wherever he goes
212 cyprus // May 18, 2012 at 7:06 AM
@2,
u still here? Almost spot on with the results, only, regarding your no.5, yes we won, good result, but we were outplayed.
On Owen, pound for pound, our worst signing ever. Also, due to the huge investment and his continuous absence, we didn’t hire another forward, so that too contributed to our demotion. I wish him best of luck but don’t understand what happened to the rising superstar and the kid who scored a hat trick against us (he irritatingly rubbed his hands as if wanting more). Then again, the injuries took him a notch down every time he reappeared so maybe there’s a good excuse there.

Villa fans (not so) excited about signing our three playershttp://www.avfcforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&p=251017
214 Colo-Sus // May 18, 2012 at 8:32 AM
ALDERWEIRELD IS A STEAL AT 4MILLION!!!!!!
Did anyone see him V Man U, he was just as assured as Vertonghen IMHO.
I think him or Douglas at CB, but I worry about Douglas Tempereament, he seems quite hot headed, sent of alot and loads of bookings.
As much as I like Mbiwa, he is simply not the physical prescence we need at the back, unless he comes in as a fullback? with a view to replacing Colo in the future, thing is he is the same height as Perchinho, and although qwe believe he is generally a better player, if he and Colo were at the back we would be very exposed in the air (ala Norwich away)
For Me it would be any of these Cominations (thats if we sign two at all)
1. Vertonghen and Pieters (but we wont get Vertonghen)
2. Alderwireld and Pieters
3. Douglas and Pieters
4. Alderwireld and Debuchy
5.Alderwireld and Mbiwa
In my opinion, Mbiwa and Debuchy can only be bought if we buy that Arial Dominant prescence with goalscoring threat (as Pardew righly pointed out, we are lacking massively in that area)
What do you reckon lads?
5.
