Young Dutch Striker Expected To Replace Demba Ba?

News today that Luuk de Jong of FC Twente is being linked with a move to Newcastle.

Luuk De Jong – Newcastle still interested

Newcastle have been watching Steve McClaren’s side quite a number of times this season, and two players are thought to have impressed the Newcatsle scouts are Luuk and their big Brazilian center-back Douglas.

The 21 year-old Swiss-born striker has had a phenomenal season in the  Eredivisie , and has scored 32 goals in 50 total games for his club.

Luuk still has a deal that runs for another two years in Holland, but he is also keen to move to a bigger club:

“I feel ready to take the next step in my career, to do well when the opportunity arises, because I have developed well at Twente. Some opportunities should be grabbed when they come.”

Other top clubs interested in this lad are said to include Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and Roma, so it will not be easy to bring him to Tyneside, if Newcastle are indeed wanting to do that.

His price tag seems to have risen to around £10M, and we don’t know whether he will brought in only if Demba Ba decides to move on.

the alternative to that is to bring him in as the 4th striker to replace Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best – who are both expected to leave Newcastle this summer.

It’s an open question as to whether Demba  Ba will move on, but he has already been linked with Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool.

Alan Pardew said earlier this week that Newcastle will try to sign him to a new contract, but with that release clause in his contract, Newcastle could lose him in the summer for peanuts.

The 26-year-old scored 16 goals in the Premier League,  but then went off the boil when he Senegal compatriot Papiss  Cisse joined in January, and Papiss scored 13 goals for Newcastle in 14 appearances.

And Paris St Germain, his home town club and now very rich with Qatari owners, have also been linked with Demba Ba this year.

Ba signed a three year deal when he joined as a free agent last summer from West Ham, and we’d like to see him sign a new deal to stay on Tyneside, but at the same time we’d also like to see Newcastle bring in Luuk de Jong, as the young striker who can come through at Newcastle.

Luuk joined FC Twente in 2009 from De Graafschap, and the 6’2″ striker has scored 59 goals in 1119 appearances for Twente – so far.

Newcastle have been linked with this player for about nine months now.

What do you think?

Hope he comes in to join the others, not replace, but being honest, if we were to lose a top player this Summer, I would rather it was Ba than someone like Krul, who is nearly impossible to replace. Demba has looked less interested at times, and we went back to 4-4-2 to keep him happy, and lost 3 of last 4 games. When we played 4-3-3 we were brilliant, HBA looked incredible. I would rather young FErguson had played the left hand side role, he would have done it better and Demba would have known he needed to fight for his place. A bling man on a galloping horse can see that Demba is a bit jealous of Papiss. But next season, we need a bigger squad, and Papiss will need to rest as will Demba. So I hope he sees the bigger picture. And another season like this one for Big Shola would be great. He did a sterling job coming on late and holding the ball up.

Doing the business in the Premier League would make this guy as priceless as Papisse. He’s young enough to fit in beautifully and has great potential!!

By the way Ed, it still pains me to see Obertan in that banner ahead of our number 23 Mackem Slayer. It’s wrong that the big fella isn’t there.

lol, played night and day, and can’t hit a barn door from 5 paces!!!

In all seriousness though, he would be a brilliant signing. Great movement and athletic – like Papiss.

The only team mentioned there Ed who’ve got more to offer him than us would be Arse-nil, as they’re in the CL but them again, Chelski won’t be looking for a striker of his value, they’d wants someone in the 25-30m price rage to replace Drogba….

Cessepool won’t have any money to spend after Doglesh bankrupted them last season, so they’ll need to sell to buy imo…

Toffee’s don’t have any European footy to offer so if we sell Ba, then I think we’ll get him but I doubt he’ll come to us as a 4th choice striker, I mean I can’t believe you’re actually putting Strolla ahead of a striker who’s scored more goal in 1 season, than Strola has in his entire career… lol lol lol

Rumours that Sunderland are trying to sign Shola, after failing to get him last summer or Jan.
Came from an agent so not sure how true???

The club are keen sellers but he keep turning them down!

I think this guy could just end up being another dirk kuyt if we’re going to get another striker we need one with electric pace not another number 9 style

Love to believe this is ever going to happen!

Would not surprise me if Ba does return to PSG! Where his roots appear to be! Although i would be disappointed to see BA go! Luuk de Jong would be superb for us, think Manure or Shitty or even Chelski will get him before us though but!
He is very rarely injured and would be ideal playing alonside Papiss up front!

Add Hatem on one wing and Elia on the other we would be destined for greater things that we have already achieved this year! Oh and i think you,ll find that its 119 appearances! Finger trouble Ed!

We need another striker regardless of whether Ba stays or not as tthe ACoN is on again next year and as much as I love the big Sho he can’t start games.

Petes on his way (wish him all the best seems a true gent and great professional) and Best is meant to be off as well add to that Ranger will be thrown down a well our strike force is on its ar*e

If Ba left the club I’d like to see us bring in Elia as a realistic target to play that left striker. I’d love to see De Jong come in though we need strong comp up top for ACON and europe

Elia would not replace BA! Elia is an out and out winger!

De Jong would replace BA! If it ever happens! And would play alongside Papiss!

Wud love to see this youngster at Newcastle but we have got very little opportunity to get him especially with more than dozen big clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus and so on also interested.
Talking about his price tag we are estimating around £10m. I think there will be bidding war and someone like Chelsea will throw out 15-16m£ and snap him.

    Goodness Gracious!!!!!!!
Lads, just see !!!! In terms of scoring record there are still some Strikers who are poorer than Shola.
    Long live Shola!!!!!11

Guys seriously, if we lose BA and want to play 4-3-3 in some games and 4-4-2 in others then we must bring in a left sided WINGER for Ba in the 4-3-3 and another centre forward (maybe this lad) to compliment Cisse in a 4-4-2. You can’t get away as has been found out putting a centre forward in a winger postion, I mean you would not find HBA upfront on his own. We need an Elia or a Lens who I don’t think we will get but we could get Moses and would be a perfect fit to replace Ba in the 4-3-3 formation.
